With the online movie rental service Netflix going exclusively Blu-ray, it was only a matter of time before the company announced that it was boosting their library volume for Blu-ray titles. Currently, Netflix has 400 titles in their catalog, but it plans to triple this and increase the number of titles to 1,500.
While this sounds like great support for Blu-ray, the cost of such a large scale move may cause Netflix to increase their fees. It shouldn't hit too hard on the wallet though, and besides, an upgrade from DVD to Blu-ray HD is well worth it.

wow, I didn't even know there are 1500 titles for Blu-Ray. Well, good for their customers to have more choices.

There aren't. They must have "plans", as stated, which go hand-in-hand with Blu-ray production plans and studio release schedules over the coming months (years?) to reach 1.5K. There aren't even _five_ must-own BDs yet IMO, although that will quickly change now that Blu has won. (No Country and TWBB!)

I beg to differ. The Kubrick films plus Planet Earth are all must-owns. A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, 2001 ASO, etc.

Considering HD movies cost more to buy, its only fair that prices will increase. I'm actually a bit surprised they haven't raised their Blu-Ray prices sooner.
I'm impressed with the photoshop work (if its yours). I love Blu-ray.com, because HD DVD fanboys don't go their to ruin their fun. Take note game console fanboys, stick to your own sites and everyone is happier.

It would be much better (IMHO) if they offered an HD upgrade plan, where you pay e.g. 5 bucks a month extra to get the HD movies. I own a PS3, and an HDTV, but frankly I'd rather have lo-def DVDs upscaled than have the price of my sub go up.

I don't think HD-DVD will recover from this announcement.

That's good to hear. Half of the Blu-ray disc in my queue have waits and even the "short waits" take longer than the normal week or two waiting period.

All the Blu-rays in my queue are long or very long wait. Not only do they need more titles, but they need more copies of the titles they get.
I would be willing to pay another $1-2/month to actually get get the movies in my queue.

How is Netflix expanding to 1500 titles when there are only some 500 titles published in the U.S. thus far?

I really don't see them raising prices just to keep more discs in stock. It's simply the cost of staying competitive with Blockbuster's mail service and all the hd on-demand services available now. I've been a member since early 2000 and the price has only ever gone down.

Blockbuster's mail service is "competition" to Netflix in the same way that a lemonade stand is "competition" to Snapple.
