Other bands are in Aerosmith's Guitar Hero game, maybe Run DMC

As you can sort of see, the ad promises Aerosmith and "all their favorite bands." And this article from USA Today says that the game will feature "opening acts." Interestingly, though that online version makes no mention of it, a version of the story on Aerosmith's official fan club site hints that Run DMC might be one of those guests. Any of you Aerosmith fans have guesses as to who else might be on the roster?
[Thanks, Ian]

"full of fail Aerosmith songs"
DemonGSides @ Mar 3rd 2008 12:09PM
Oh God, Run DMC might just make me buy this game.
Dr. @ Mar 3rd 2008 8:36AM
This was in the original press release, no? Something to the effect of "will contain songs by Aerosmith as well as bands that inspired them along the way." Don't make me look it up!
Justin McElroy @ Mar 3rd 2008 8:38AM
That's not in the one we have, but this classic quote is:
"Steven Tyler says, “Any band that can go from ‘Don’t Want to Miss A Thing’ (Aerosmith’s #1 smash hit) to the ass-kicking ‘Sweet Emotion’ to the cheekiness of ‘Love in an Elevator,’ to the classic ballad ‘Dream On’ shows why Activision chose us to headline this game based on the diversity of the Aerosmith catalog. Not only is songwriting a bitch, but then it goes and has puppies.”"
Hey kids, can you guess which part Steven Tyler probably actually said? (Spoiler alert, it's the last sentence.)
Dr. @ Mar 3rd 2008 8:42AM
Looks like it was gamespot, not the press release. (http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6186099.html)
"Guitar Hero: Aerosmith will follow the career of the band, from its first gig to playing packed out stadiums at the height of its fame and will feature a bounty of classic Aerosmith tracks, along with tracks from bands and artists that have performed with Aerosmith or were an inspiration to the band."
Justin McElroy @ Mar 3rd 2008 8:46AM
So, judging from the article we linked to on the fan site, would you guys guess that Run DMC will really be in? Or do you think that was just the writer having a flight of fancy?
Shagittarius @ Mar 3rd 2008 12:15PM

This is the link to the initial press release.
"As fans progress through their careers in the game, they can rock out to scores of Aerosmith's greatest hits, as well as songs from celebrated artists that the band has either performed with or has been inspired by in some way."
and this is a direct quote.
when I first saw this post I thought it was already confirmed so I went and checked.
JonFitt @ Mar 3rd 2008 6:08PM
Did they have a brainstorming session entitled
"How to make Guitar Hero less relevant"?
Dan Davis @ Mar 3rd 2008 8:47AM
Lame.
Mr.ESC @ Mar 3rd 2008 11:59AM
Wait, this game is for xb360? I thought it was for the Ps2 as well.
Oh if that's the case screw it.I never bought GH3 for the XB360 because it sold out.
Too bad,I really like most Aerosmith songs.
DCBlack @ Mar 3rd 2008 1:03PM
It will be out for PS2. Since there are apparently other bands, I'll probably get it, but I won't be waiting at the door for the store to open...
baby sea tuna @ Mar 3rd 2008 8:59AM
Man, I hope this game tanks.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Mar 3rd 2008 9:04AM
It won't. And you know it.
baby sea tuna @ Mar 3rd 2008 9:07AM
*sigh* ...and I know it.
AirIntake @ Mar 3rd 2008 9:23AM
It might fail comparatively. This will be the first GH/RB game for the 360 that I won't be picking up.
NATO_Duke @ Mar 3rd 2008 10:41AM
I just can't believe that there are that many people who would want to play a bunch of Aerosmith songs alone. I would be bored in a hurry. It just makes more sense to me to add some other people in the game to sell units to those that don't love Aerosmith.
BTW-I too hope this game does bad, though I know there are plenty of people who will buy it even though its a screw job.
Markster @ Mar 3rd 2008 8:59AM
RunDMC would make some sense, considering that they took a rather bland Aerosmith song, and made it awesome.
But then again, for the purposes of *Guitar* Hero, their addition didn't really make any changes.
(For the uneducated:

basscase @ Mar 3rd 2008 9:06AM
Opening acts would be a good addition to the game. Cheap Trick, Lenny Kravitz, and plenty more... I still think the game is a bad idea, though. I'll probably waste my money on it anyway, since I'm a big fan of the bad boys from beantown.
PrivateRyan @ Mar 3rd 2008 9:16AM
Er... this was already in the original press release...
"As fans progress through their careers in the game, they can rock out to scores of Aerosmith’s greatest hits, as well as songs from celebrated artists that the band has either performed with or has been inspired by in some way."
Matt B @ Mar 3rd 2008 9:17AM
I don't know who their target demographic is for this game.
6-14 year old probably never heard of them.
15-24 year olds find them lame cause the music of today is so much better(lulz)
25-45.... some will buy it. But only those that don't have Rock Band since they are stuck home alone for various reasons(married with little children, introvert...)
I'll be surprised if this sells 100k.
chenry @ Mar 3rd 2008 9:22AM
Full of fail, haha. I love you.
rcf1105 @ Mar 3rd 2008 9:24AM
You guys saying "this is never going to sell" are completely high. One word: PS2 (okay, technically a word, a number, and an acronym)
Chris @ Mar 3rd 2008 9:24AM
I'm not interested in this, but if it has Run DMC on it it will be an absolute shame if they do not include "Rock Box".
Mr.ESC @ Mar 3rd 2008 11:56AM
They should include its tricky and King of Rock.
By the way isn't that Dr.L33t in your avatar?
Chris @ Mar 3rd 2008 6:02PM
Yea those would rock too, and lol no thats not Dr Leet in my avatar, its a picture of myself lol.
xdrewfacex @ Mar 3rd 2008 9:25AM
the mighty mighty bosstones have a good cover of sweet emotion. they should be in the game.
Mojo @ Mar 3rd 2008 9:28AM
From all that, I would definitely expect some Guns 'n' Roses and Bon Jovi. Anybody who thinks that Run DMC isn't going to show up in this game is high.
Dirty @ Mar 3rd 2008 9:31AM
Lame. They should make Guitar Hero Metallica. I cant stand Aerosmith.
Rob @ Mar 3rd 2008 10:29AM
You're right. They should only make GH for bands you like, not ones that have consistently charted songs from 1970-2000s across multiple generations (which is probably why they're using Aerosmith and not System of a Down). They're going to have people buying this game that normally wouldn't care in the least about GH.
Another reason why they probably used Aerosmith is that they've been promoting the music-in-video games probably more than anyone else in the last 15 years. They had that one game back in 1995 where you could use a "virtual pick" to join the band, and they actually had a Guitar Hero-like game included with the album "Nine Lives" where you basically had to do the same thing (match the notes with a press of the keys on a PC).
Anyway, my guess is that this game will do pretty well. They have an album coming out right around then, and a world tour, so the buzz around the band at that time will be pretty high. Like them or not, they still sell out arenas around the world ... so *someone* still is into them.
Dirty @ Mar 3rd 2008 10:35AM
Thats right they had that lame arcade game where you had to save the band. You shot records out of a gun or something. SOOOO GAY.
I still think Aerosmith is not the right choice for this demographic.
Mr. Cantu @ Mar 3rd 2008 9:47AM
Yeah, this was in their announcement: http://investor.activision.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=294521
How about you just delete this "news" and we'll all forget this ever happened?
jsn @ Mar 3rd 2008 9:56AM
WOW SWEET MAN IF THEY HAVE THE RUN DMC VERSION IN THIS GAME I'M DEFINITELY GETTING IT...
oh wait, no I'm not. Aerosmith is [LAME].
Anth @ Mar 3rd 2008 10:00AM
I rather stick with Quest for Fame to fill my Aerosmith needs.

rodsky @ Mar 3rd 2008 10:10AM
Black sabbath (ozzy only, that dio shit is gay) and Metallica (none of the crap after the black album, that one is only ok too so maybe just material up to master) would sell loads more cuz those bands have great riffs/solos
other bands that need their own Guitar Hero: Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and AC/DC
hell Megadeth would be better than an Aerosmith one, at least its not just Kiss, that band is the biggest piece of hyped up shit ever
bounchfx @ Mar 3rd 2008 10:14AM
i seriously hate how activision is trying to make these games about actual rock stars. It's supposed to be about US. the player. Fuck. No Slash, No Aerosmith. unless they are just a song in the game I don't want them to be important in it. It's stupid and shameless promotion that turns off people who aren't into those particular artists.
mattstl77 @ Mar 3rd 2008 10:42AM
I think this game is going to be awesome. Since GH3 had so many sucky songs on it, it is about time that they made up for it with some songs by Aerosmith. What kills me is that they call GH3 "Legends of Rock" but it is clear that they left a lot of "legendary" classic rock songs off of that album.
Some of you consider Aerosmith to be lame. That is fine. Just like the joke of the author of this article, you all are entitled to your own opinion. GH is much more enjoyable when you play songs that you know and enjoy. I could give you a long list of songs in GH3 that were horrible.
If you guys want to play your death metal, then so be it. I want to play real legendary classic rock and Aerosmith is my choice.
Another way to look at it is that if this game is successful, then other "band" games will come out. Maybe one that you all may actually like.
xGabrielx @ Mar 3rd 2008 10:45AM
Who cares? DO NOT WANT.
umm....hello??? @ Mar 3rd 2008 11:05AM

Aerosmith: fail
where's RockBand 2? do people care about GuitarHero anymore??
baby sea tuna @ Mar 3rd 2008 11:15AM
Little pieces of Rock Band 2 come out every week and sell like hotcakes. Where have you been?
skullivan @ Mar 3rd 2008 11:24AM
The press release that announced the game said there would be other bands in the game:
"As fans progress through their careers in the game, they can rock out to scores of Aerosmith's greatest hits, as well as songs from celebrated artists that the band has either performed with or has been inspired by in some way."
MasterInsan0 @ Mar 3rd 2008 11:32AM
Activision is missing the point of Guitar Hero--specifically, that *you* are the Guitar Hero, not these over-hyped egomaniacs. The whole idea is to live out your rock star fantasies all while playing a fun game. All this game accomplishes is (hopefully) the fun game part.
Though, I suppose if your rock star fantasy is "I wish I were in Aerosmith" then this game is right up your alley. I'm not sure how much of the rhythm game population that applies to, however.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Mar 3rd 2008 11:52AM
