Serial killer killing killer Dexter getting game

IGN reports that a game based on Dexter will be announced tomorrow by Showtime Networks and Marc Ecko Entertainment. Showtime's Dexter, currently airing (and not-so-badly edited) Sundays on CBS, follows the life of Dexter Morgan, a serial killer who keeps his desires in check by killing other serial killers. There is currently no information on the game's plot, developer, genre, platforms, etc.

Just like our favorite serial killing protagonist, we can't help but feel conflicted about this announcement. With any luck, Dexter's video game hunt will find inspiration from games like Hitman or Assassin's Creed without losing the show's sinister personality. Yes, completely unlikely, but we can dream darkly.

I think it'd be interesting to play as a young Dexter, giving us an opportunity to flesh out his backstory and leaving the real writers up to furthering the storyline.

Thank God you didn't use that one picture with the blood splatter on his face. I'm sick to death (no pun intended) of that picture and he looks like Shia Labeouf in it.

I worked at a telemarketing place that sold DirecTV channels, such as Showtime, and I had to see that poster EVERY DAY... It did get annoying, but the first season was very good. I don't know about a game, might be good, probably be bad.

This is perfect for the wii as another murder simulator. Right?

Tips for fans of the series: First book, good. Second and third books, not so much. The supernatural was NOT the way to go with the story.

I imagine that's why they went with a whole different direction on the TV series, then.

Personally, I found the order of awesomeness to be as follows:

I found Dearly Devoted Dexter to be phenominally witty, and I was constantly doubling over with chuckles and grins as I read it. Sure, the ending was rather sudden, but eh - not everything has to be ultradramatic, does it?

Season 2 was good, but.. it wasn't nearly as good as Dexter S1, or the books. It seemed rushed.

I loved the show, and the first two books were really good. The third one was garbage, but we'll never speak of that again. I just can't imagine how they could possibly make a game that isn't a terrible CSI the game clone. Blood spatter investigations and pretending to be warm-blooded are not the basic ingredients of a good game. Please prove me wrong. Please.

is the CSI game actually good? I was expecting it to be bad but I keep hearing about it.

prediction: awesome presentation,awful gameplay.

Love the show, meh on the game idea...

I love the books, what am not too big on the show. I have very, very low expectations for this.

I loved the first two seasons of the show and the first two books, but of course as it's come to be with any licensed property I have no other choice but to be incredibly apprehensive.

Hopefully they will be dearly devoted to this project.

the main thing is the way he actually kills people, he sedates,tapes them down and cuts them up. The only way I can see this is a sort of reverse 'Trauma Center DS' sort of game play.

What is this Dexter show I keep hearing about, is it some kind of Dexters Lab real-life sequel? I don't see Dede [sp].

Dexter, the main character, suffered a pretty traumatic event as a toddler. As an adult he's all messed in the head and enjoys killing things (and by now he's worked his way up to people). Thing is, he kills people that are blood thirsty murders themselves.

That's only the premise of the show, not the story. The story is way better.

Wow, they must be really stupid if they don't see that knife in his hand. 13 episodes later the black guy dies... pfft, typical...

I have to admit I had to read your title 3 times to understand it... that being said, I hope the games good as the show because its great.

Depending on the gameplay, this could be TOTALLY AWESOME. Take the forensics type gameplay of Condemned 2 with the stalking type gameplay of Manhunt and a dash of Trauma Center for when you're vivisecting your victims :)

They just better not mess it up... I've met Jeff Lindsay and live near him.... I want his vision to be realized and not just used to sell tv ads and videogames.

I was expecting a Dexter's Lab game when I saw my RSS ticker.

this show is the bomb diggity. i will forcefully forget about the existence of this video game (through repeated head trauma) and thus exist happily in an false reality free of video games that ruin good shows/movies/books/etc.

See Thompson. We're murdering murderers it's a murder murderer simulator.
