10 reasons the PlayStation 3 is relevant again

Sony is expecting a big year for PlayStation 3 -- it might even turn a profit in the next fiscal year, according to SCEI President and CEO Kaz Hirai. The folks at PS3 Fanboy think it's got a fighting chance, and here are ten reasons we expect a better year for the console.

Yeah, I'm not a fanboy, I'm a PS-Wii-60 owner. Looking this article over, I would say that I fail to see how the 360 will be relevant this year.

And that's not flame bait, other than Ninja Gaiden 2 (OMG I can't wait) and Ikaruga, I have nothing on my list of 360 games to buy right now.

Why would he start a war? There isn't much on the 360 except GOW2 and Ninja Gaiden 2... Plus, they're all too busy playing CoD 4 and Halo 3 to care.

There's plenty coming out for both systems. Don't pretend like 360 is out of good games, because it's going to come 'round and bite you in the ass after MGS and FF are released on PS3 later this year.

Not trying to disagree, as it's an opinion, but I'm not excited about any of the games you mentioned. I didn't like GoW, so won't be buying GoW2, Halo Wars is an RTS, and I have a PC for those games. Banjo 3 hasn't been shown yet, so I doubt it will be out this year, and Too Human has the jury out, it looks too ambitous to be good.

Still, I'll wager the hits will keep coming long into the night as joystiq hosts the latest cage match in fandom. God help us if the PS3 does keep outselling the 360 this year...neither side will play nice.

These arguments about the PS3's games line up would be stronger if not for the fact that most of them should have been out at the same time as the 360's AAA titles. Still, the 360's lineup isn't THAT mind blowing and I'm looking at a blu-ray player, so meah. If the price is right (IE: not now), I might still buy a PS3.

All valid points. I just hope they find a way to make Home fun to use for the everyday gamer and to get more remote psp usage going. I was really excited about ideas like it being a rearview mirror in racing games.

All valid points you say? Here's my list...
6 Reasons Why I Don't Care:
1. 360 will have a Blu-ray drive within months
2. 360 also has decent games over XBLA
3. 360 also has great DLC
4. Sony took rumble out of their controllers (something that should never be removed from any controller) and reintroduce it as a new feature... give me a break
5. Still more expensive than a 360. (Talking basic unit price, for a 360 that does as much as a PS3, it's obviously more)
6. Metal Gear Solid what? Who cares... At least I really don't (but I know a lot of other do, so sorry).
In all honesty though, I secretly wish I had a PS3 (and a 360 for that matter, lolz).

Moreover the ps3 doesn't scare consumers regarding failure rates. It has actual exclusives that people can't play on their PC. All games are pretty much going to work as advertised across all SKUs. PSN is free, blah blah blah.

See Ben, when I started reading your post, I thought it was going to be intelligent because it started that way..then you started commenting on the vibration controller and criticizing the flagship PS3 title. Now you just come off as an arrogant 360 Fanboy. Try to stay neutral.

Stating that you can play the big 360 Exclusives on PC is not exactly a fair argument. How many people who would even play that those games on a console would have a PC that would run those games? I have a Wii, a 360, and a sick gaming rig. I despise console FPS's so in my eyes, playing Halo on a console is torture. (Even though the PC version blows donkey nuts anyways). As for GoW, It just doesn't feel right on a PC. Console is the only way to play that.

What I am really trying to say is claiming the PC is the alternate way to play the exclusive 360 games without a 360 is like claiming the DS port of a game is an alternate way to play a Wii game without a Wii. Two totally different experiences.

Dude, it's gonna happen. Don't cry about it. Microsoft has no ties with any format so it's nothing for them to switch. It would be for movies ONLY I suspect. They admitted they would do it if the customers demanded it and it appears they are. I for one am thrilled because now I can hold off on buying a PS3 until the likes of Final Fantasy and Gran Turismo 5 hit the shelves. I was never a MGS fan so that game is meaningless to me (not to say it isn't awesome for those who liked the series)

The few good PSN games are worth a mention, but then they list Loco Roco Cocoreccho and Toy Home as "great downloadable titles with no size restrictions"... underlining how few PSN games there actually are.

For me, it has 1, and only needs one.

It's the only $400 blu-ray player, and it is the best blu-ray player. With the easy ability to update, it is future proof when the BD standard is updated.

Reason enough to own one.

It's the only 400 dollar Blu-ray player? Yeah you may be right, I've been seeing them around 200 lately. In fact I just ordered a combo drive (Blu-ray & HD-DVD) for my tower just at $119 dollars. Many of the stand alone players are going for $329 last time I checked.

This whole Xbox live is full of ads is the biggest reach I have ever seen by silly fanboys. Its one little 3 x 3 cube in the bottom left hand corner of the blades. Mostly they advertise free offers from third party companies to xbox users and owners. How is that considered distractive advertising and not relevant to gaming.

Yeah you are right. Using Home to a study virtual sand table with team members to plan strategy in Warhawk is irrelevant. Particularly so with another expansion just announced for April.

Using Home so you can enter maps with friends in Resistance and plan strategy to include visiting areas never before seen is irrelelvant.

Using Home to gain free roam in Uncharted as well as access a specially made Uncharted side scrolling shooter is irrelevant. I guess a service for which you do not pay is irrelevant.

For the record, if you count ads for games, there's a lot more than just a single (3x3???) square for ads. IIRC, there's 3 places for ads on the Live blade alone. And the entire Marketplace blade background is one huge ad... I hate the fact that the skins don't actual cover the Marketplace background. But, whatever, misinformation abounds here... so why stop now?
