A glib response from a Crytek representative may have revealed that Crysis is coming to the Xbox 360. The rep reportedly told Primotech that the Xbox 360 version was being shown behind close doors to "prospective publishers" at last month's Game Developers Conference.
This is far from a confirmation; the Crytek rep may have misspoken. Furthermore, we'd be surprised if Crysis PC publisher Electronic Arts didn't have the foresight to secure rights to the console game as well. We do know that Crytek planned on showing off a console version of CryEngine 2 (which runs Crysis), and although the assets were likely Crysis, perhaps the prospective publishers were just looking for a game engine.

My $800 PC can't run parts of this game very well.(Actually, the ice part that that screenshot if from.) I bet they knock off a lot more than 60 pixels to make this work smoothly.
Can't wait to see how many slowdowns/crashing you get with 5000 barrels in the 360 version...

You would be surprised how much power they can get out of a dedicated system like the 360. A PC is much less efficient with tons of hardware configuration and OS overhead. The 360 video card is actually pretty advanced, it's not just an off the shelf card like in the PS3.

Not off the shelf at all.

Old news. Everyone knows a somewhat toned version is coming to PS3/360 sometime this year(summer-ish probably).

Spooner, Crysis wasn't crap.
Granted the last few levels were not good. The rest of the game however (whilst playing on Delta) was extremeley fun and immersive to play as a stealth game.
I can understand why people might not like it if they played it like they were Rambo though.

@Spooner
The point of the nanosuit needing to charge is that you need to be able to manage the power in it like you manage resources in any other game. So apparently you sucked at being frugal with your energy, that doesn't make the game suck.
I personally thought the AI was horrible. Difficult, but not realistic. They all had some sort of uber x-ray vision and could shoot with perfect accuracy from miles away. They were completely blind when you're cloaked, but even if they're looking away when you uncloak they knew exactly where you were? Especially the hellecopters. It ruined the campaign for me, but I still play the multiplayer.

Because it would be logical to think they would port a DirectX game to a console that supports DirectX? Hmmm... OH! And don't forget the devtools MS provides to make such a project possible. :D
I'm not saying it won't be on the PS3. I'm saying it is foolhearty to think they would just pass up the 360 when it would be, in all logical views, the best platform to start the porting on. Oh well... I'm going back to XNA now. Call me when Sony lets me access the full hardware under Linux.

While it is true that Sony has locked the GPU in the PS3, it has been told the Cell processor is quite efficient and powerful enough to be used as a graphics processor in the PS3, esp when emulating.
I bet it can be enough for any game you are trying to cook on your own. Only if you knew how to code around something other than XNA, which is awesomely simple, you'd know that you could write shaders that calculate on the SPUs. Killzone 2 devs know this, they merely get bling from the GPU, icing on the cake, if you will.

Sony couldn't pull good graphics out of the Cell, so I'm sure I can't.
But yea, I know I could make a game under Linux just as well as XNA. I have the knowledge and skills. I want to do that too, but I need a reason to spend 400-500 bux on a new system. Even if I had it, I want access to the full system using Linux, not just the Cell which, but some accounts, isn't fully unlocked. I wish it would happen... :/

Within the next couple months, DX10 will be obsolete.
http://www.khronos.org/developers/library/2008_gdc/Khronos%20Ecosystem%20GDC%20Feb2008.pdf
MS has kept some of DX10's APis' under closed doors for too long almost like it is proprietary. So much of the industry has moved towards a new OpenGL years ago and the new VECTOR GRAPHICS BASED standard is almost upon us. Games can now look as good from $10,000 PCs dow to PDAs since the graphics a vector based and scalable.
"Because MT Evans completely replaces DX10 features and adds features the Manufacturers have already built into their cards and are also contributing members of OpenGL. Microsoft locked those features out forcing their own standards!"
And it has come back to bite them.
MGS4 and KZ2 are the last 2 PS3 games to use any of the DX9/10 features. Everything else coming out are in the new OpenGL.

That was Sony's original plan- to only have one processing chip, and that chip was the Cell... However, the Cell wasn't as powerful as they thought (and not really the overwhelming factor compared to the Xbox 360's tri-core setup, and as a matter of fact, nearly dead even with it), and the plan tanked, so they went to Nvidia... Nvidia gave them get GPU from the 7800GTX with slightly higher clock speeds and redubbed it the NV47, while there are other subtle changes.
But, the point I'm getting at is no, the Cell is not a viable graphics source when it comes to gaming.
Oh, and by the way, Matt B, DirectX 10 will be here to stay for quite a while.

Only time will tell indeed. I really want this to come out on 360. Crytek needs to optimize the engine up the anus and hoepfully we can get a great game running at a decent 30fps.

It's not like they ctrl-c ctrl-v from the pc to the 360. They'll probably utilize certain tricks on the 360 that weren't as necessary on the PC. Remember, the PC version has to be scalable so it'll work on many different combinations of hardware (for example, the demo's playable on my 2.4ghz, 768MB ram, ATI 9700 on low) with an operating system and other shit running at the same time. With the 360, they're all the same, so they only have to focus on certain areas where the game might become unplayable, and figure out another way to make it work.
They wouldn't develop an engine from scratch and only use it on a PC. Licensing engines is huge business for them, so showing that it's capable of working on consoles is very necessary.
Also, if you plug your 360 controller into the PC, and run crysis, it detects it from the get-go, with all the buttons mapped out, rumble included. I'd bet that the engine was developed with the possibility of porting to the ps3 & 360.

Umm Id hate to hurt you guys feelings but xbox is more powerful than the average pc people currently have at home. and especially when you consider all the processing is dedicated to gaming unlike a pc which has all types of background processes running

I wouldn't doubt it. The game sold like dog droppings on the PC but was a pretty good game in my opinion. No reason not to port a "lesser" version to 360/PS3 where there is a better chance of it selling like it should. Hopefully this time when i say something positive about crysis I won't get burried under the earth :(

Talk about coming full circle...
Of course Crytek themselves said NEITHER the 360 NOR the PS3 could handle Crysis, so I'm pretty sure someone's pulling some shenanigans...

It's the engine. We already knew it would be an easy port to 360 (with direct X support and all the development tools MS has to port games) I think PS3 will still get the engine, but with major rewrites it could take a while.

Even if they did port it over to a console, it wouldn't be the same game at all. It would have to be completely revamped. It would be like putting Halo 3 or Metal Gear Solid 4 on a DS or something. It would come out as a completely different game. Undoubtedly, it would also look less sexy and run at a very base framerate, < 30 fps most likely.
