Umbrella Chronicles ships a million units worldwide
With the successful wii-vival of Resident Evil 4, not to mention plans to introduce waggle to Resident Evil Zero in Japan, there's little question that Capcom enjoys returning to – and drinking from – the Wii's zombie-infested well. And for good reason, as the company announced that its latest trip down memory lane for the Wii, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, has shipped over a million units the world over since the game's debut last November.
Impressive, for sure, though what's even more staggering is that the series as a whole has sold more than 34.5 million units globally as of February 29. However, the company is not all about survival horror, having recently confirmed plans for some 15 new projects in the works -- though Capcom will likely always have a special place in its heart (and wallet) for the decaying flesh of the undead.

Just hold out, you can play it 4 years from now on wii 2...
Mr.ESC @ Mar 4th 2008 11:06AM
I love that game too bad the Wii zapper only makes things worst.
Quick Time events are impossible with the Wii zapper.
Player1 @ Mar 4th 2008 1:26PM
If you look at the diagrams that are the first thing you see when you start the game, you will see that you are not supposed to put the nunchuck in the zapper. You only put the wiimote in and use the nunchuck outside of it.
However the quicktime events are practically impossible even with it out. It never seems to recognize the wiimote shaking. I wish they would have used the Ghost Squad setup instead.

Okay Capcom, a shitload of us Wii owners bought UC now where is our announcement of a new and proper Resident Evil game?
vidGuy @ Mar 4th 2008 11:21AM
I'm afraid that it won't happen. Why take the time to make a full RE game like the fans want when a quick arcade version sells well? I feel another Resident Evil: Survivor on the way.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Mar 4th 2008 11:49AM
I'd take a true RE FPS on the wii, as long as it didn't suck ass.
In fact, thinking about it and the kind of interactions MP3 had, a RE FPS on wii could be pretty awesome.
nastysquar3d @ Mar 4th 2008 11:14AM
I hope one of Capcom's 15 new games is a RE exclusive to the Wii. I would snatch that bitch up in a heartbeat. RE4 Wii is just perfection.
Ieatbrains @ Mar 4th 2008 11:17AM
Its nice to see someone else than Nintendo suceed on the wii?
Raikage (LDF CRAB BATTLE!!!) @ Mar 4th 2008 2:34PM
Yes it is?
RobLink (McElroy Defence Force) @ Mar 4th 2008 3:14PM
I see what you did there?
Raikage (LDF CRAB BATTLE!!!) @ Mar 4th 2008 3:44PM
I was hoping someone would?
DBuck_Eye @ Mar 4th 2008 4:00PM
I'm actually dumbfounded as to why a Capcom has succeeded on Wii. They've done everything the same as the rest of the third-parties except they've put a little effort into their games. Hmm... maybe, just maybe, if you make a game that isn't Ninjabread Man-level quality, it can succeed. And before you start throwing full wine bottles at your computer, know that this is just a crazy thought that is in no way, shape or form true.
WiNG @ Mar 4th 2008 11:40AM
It's a pretty good number when you consider the word "Mario" isn't in the title.
naxe @ Mar 4th 2008 2:03PM
dude i don't mean to rain on this parade but it's units shipped..... Not Sold.
Just saying.
Shimrra @ Mar 4th 2008 12:37PM
ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Waa oh yeah didnt we play this game already.
So I get now I get to wiggle my "Wii" now.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Mar 4th 2008 1:07PM
WTF are you talking about. RE: Umbrella Chronicles is a wii exclusive. As in, not a port or multiplatform release.
Shimrra @ Mar 4th 2008 1:11PM
No I am talking about RE 4 and Zero you dingus but if you think about it Umbrellas Chronicles is just walk through some of the highlights from older RE's.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Mar 4th 2008 1:32PM
Hard to tell what you were talking about, since this article is all about UC
Neil @ Mar 4th 2008 12:44PM
The numbers don't sound that impressive to me, I mean a million in in the US or JP would be something, but worldwide?
fuzzy @ Mar 4th 2008 1:19PM
Wait a minute, when Microsoft stated that they shipped some millions of consoles, wasn't everyone on their case for saying "oh, that's what they *shipped* but what about what they sold?"
How come no one's mentioned it here? Case of the fanboy goggles?
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Mar 4th 2008 1:34PM
This is Joystiq: people are fanboys for consoles, not for games.
Bring your logic elsewhere.
Pointz @ Mar 4th 2008 2:03PM
You're logic sucks eggs.
WiNG @ Mar 4th 2008 4:30PM
Your grammar sucks eggs.
Pointz @ Mar 4th 2008 4:37PM
touché.
Mr Khan @ Mar 4th 2008 5:12PM
True, true
Its a 3rd-party non-party game Wii title, however. So any good news is great news.
