Since the announcement was made last May, Sony has remained somewhat tight-lipped on the topic of SOCOM Confrontation, the multiplayer-only PS3 entry into the Navy-oriented series. The May issue of EGM will end all that, however, with a massive feature on the anticipated title, including all new details and screens.
To whet the pallet, Sony has revealed two new screenshots of Confrontation in action, with accompanying information about what players are seeing. The above image displays a ruined shopping mall, on a map that supports 16 player combat, but can expand to fit up to 32. A second screen features Crossroads, a classic SOCOM map that will make an HD reappearance in Confrontation.
In addition to a new over-the-shoulder camera, the classic SOCOM camera option will still be available in Confrontation, for those of us frightened by change. Check out high-res versions of both screens, as well as all the screens released so far, in the gallery below.

jesus they couldnt have put more ram in the PS3? those textures are terrible as usual. there hasnt been one game on PS3 that has even come close to doing what the 360 does with textures.

First comment, and it sucks. What are you going on about, Socom has never failed before, and I doubt it will now, textures or no textures.

While you dont comment often...when you do its complete dribble. Remember...2007 is when your machine of choice peaked, and there is only 1 way to go when something peaks and thats.....

The low textures will either improve for blue-ray, or have been deliberatly left like that to make this game a practical to use, easy to download, downloadable title on PSN.
Warhawk looked the same, but it played well, and is still fun to play online, I'm sure you will have a choice with this game as well, buy online, or buy instore and get headset etc.

The 360 peaked? What kind of real world theoretical evidence do you have that points to the 360 peaking? Oh yea nevermind, it's just the Sony fanboy bullshit that is peaking to epic fecal foaming proportions.
Nothing has peaked yet. The PS3 and the 360 will continue to leap each other when it comes to graphics, now length of games on the other hand...

Although, I haven't played this in a while, need to get some practise, probs play some now actually.

WTF??! MP only? Well aint that about a bitch! I was looking forward to this but whats up with no single player campaign. Hope this doesnt become a trend, like with Warhawk and now this...
;/
Also I hope those are pre-pre-pre alpha build screens because the textures do sucketh very mucheth. COD4 has nothing to worry about.

Dude, were you not here when they announced they are making two games, this one, the multiplayer version, and a seperate version with campaign, this one probably has lower textures because it is downloadable, had it been like COD4, it would take ages to install.
Like Warhawk, this one will pretty much follow suite, its main focus is on the gameplay, not so much the graphics, if Warhawk did the same, ti wouldn't be the game it is now, while COD4 is most played online on Xbox, Resistance and Warhawk are on PS3, hopefull this will add to that line up.

There is a mp game coming out while a Brand new game is coming out by the original developers. This is to hold people over until then.

Well it kinda goes both ways. I feel with single player Im getting my controls, timing, shooting skills, etc. up. Not trying to toot my own horn but this usually works for me and I usually end up owning the shit outta peeps online. Did it on teh Haloz, Gears, COD2, 3, 4, etc...

I do use single player to learn a games dynamics in many game. If that isn't an option, I jump in a really skilled server to see how the pros are playing.

Urm, wait a second, I could understand a comparison to GRAW, but I don't understand the logic of comparing with COD4. COD is a 'run, gun, bomb' game, where there is stealth, its far and few, this is a stealth logic game, anyone who runs and guns gets killed, its about patience, so what exactly does fenix mean when he says COD has nothing to worry about?
Thats like comparing Ghost Reacon to Halo.

COD4 is legendary, but Socom is in its own class, theres nothing better then getting low, sneaking up on an enemy as you see them looking for you......then..........BAM! Headshot!

In all honesty SOCOM isn't all that when it comes to tactical shooters. The reason it is so popular is because the RPG heavy and platform heavy PS2 never saw a tactical shooter until they witnessed SOCOM. So all the PS2 only owners who experienced SOCOM and experienced tactical shooters for the first time, while PC players and Xbox players experienced a plethora of them, have somewhat of a nostalgic soft spot for this title which is fine but please let's not get ahead of ourselves.
I remember watching the commercials for SOCOM on the PS2, Sony was making a big deal about cross comm communications with a headset it was pretty cute.

Nice FUD leobabies, it almost sounds believable. But for millions of players it IS all that for tactical shooters on any platform. But you would have had to have played it to really know.

I played the original and honestly I couldn't tell the difference between the enemies and and my teammates. The textures were really bad. Gameplay wise it was pretty good but not groundbreaking, but I couldn't get over the horrific look of the game. Also after playing on the Xbox controller and K&M it just didn't feel right on the dual shock, even though the gameplay elements in place for the overall presentation of functions was decent.

First off, leobebes, multi-player SOCOM was online using headset communication before Xbox LIVE even launched. Next, there still hasn't been another single-player game that handles voice commands to your A.I. teammates as well as SOCOM.
Also, the multiplayer game types were excellent - something Ghost Recon still can't get right. The bombing levels, the hostage extraction levels - these were well-balanced and tense modes in SOCOM. Let's not forget that the level design was better than most of what comes out today.
I understand what you're saying, but you're talking about SOCOM like it wasn't the godfather of all these online console brawlers - and I have to disagree.

As long as it allows me to glitch under the stairs like in the old Crossroads, then it's all good.

I for one am anticipating newer and better things from the entire online shooter realm. My thirst for the "perfect" shooter has left me playing titles such and Warhawk, and COD4 which both have raised my bar of expectations to even higher levels.
That being said, how can /6 improve upon the current incarnations of games? Well they can take notes, cues, and suggestions from the countless individuals (like myself) who indulges in these games after shelling out their (in some cases) hard earned cash on.
For me an online shooter that is premised on realism should focus on the aspects of gameplay first, graphics second. The rule of thumb in the gaming world is; What good are graphics if you cannot enjoy playing the game?
