Rumor: Xbox 360 to get 50 Euro price cut March 14
Possible good news for our European friends this morning, as Tech Radar is reporting that Xbox 360s will be getting an across-the-board 50 Euro price cut on every SKU on March 14. Their information, while not confirmed by Microsoft, reportedly comes from "numerous well-placed games industry sources," and has been corroborated with European retailers.
That would bring the price of a 360 to € 250 ($380) and the Arcade pack to around €197 ($300). As a basis for comparison, the Wii is available for around € 234 ($356) on Amazon's UK site, while the 40GB PS3 comes in at €370 ($563). While not necessarily a great sign for how the 360's faring across the pond, it's at least good news for our European friends who've still yet to see what the whole Halo 3 craze is about.
We'll let you know if we hear anything more definite.

What is this bloody Halo 3 craze I keep hearing about? Oh, only 250 euro you say? I guess Ill give it a go, screw rugby!
Maverick Saturn @ Mar 5th 2008 9:45AM
Lol, Halo 3? Doubt it, over here its all about GTA GTA GTA, since the launch of halo, all convo relating to it over here has silenced, even Halo 2 convo lasted far longer and Halo 1 of course much further.
GTA ftw, if this is for the GTA launch, good on Micro, clap clap, lucky devils who pay less then I did ¬_¬
Slaziman @ Mar 5th 2008 9:55AM
I already had my heart set on a PS3, but this could change that.

Get both you'll feel better in the morning...
Maverick Saturn @ Mar 5th 2008 9:59AM
Its still a rumour, lets just see what happens.

Won't help much in Europe.

Europe sales are in the slump they need a price cut but that it's not enough. Playstation marketing its 10 times more than Xbox, they seem to focus on UK only they need to bet in every country in Europe to hope to stay competitive with PS3
E.J. @ Mar 5th 2008 5:48PM
I agree it's not enough. What's with MS and 50USD/CDN/EUR drops? Why not 100? It's like they're begging to lose this console war because of their arrogance. Along with their rejection of user-generated content from games that aren't Halo 3, MS is seriously chasing customers away, current and potential.
Funny, isn't it? Not too long ago, we were all poking at Sony for their arrogance about the PlayStation brand.

Without a built in bluray drive and with the amount of problems those 360's have I don't feel that the premium is worth more than $200 anymore. $380 is just plain taking it up the arse to me.
murasam3 @ Mar 5th 2008 11:19AM
well, however, the real OFFICIAL pricetags for the 360 and ps3 in europe are:
Xbox360 Premium (20Gb): 349 Euro
Xbox360 Core (Arcade): 279 Euro
Xbox360 Elite (120Gb): 449 Euro
PS3 40Gb: 399 Euro
WhoMe @ Mar 5th 2008 12:16PM
Yeah those prices are way off.
A Wii goes for 250 iirc. Over here an xbox (450) is more than a PS3 (400) (if you discount the crappy versions).

another sign of desperation on the part of M$...
they realise PS3 has been outselling 360 worldwide consecutively for the last 14 weeks and is right behind their 17.7 million units at 10.5 million units.
this fall PS3 will probably get a $100 price cut and a slimmer redesign. by next year, PS3 will have outsold 360 worldwide.
M$ you did better this round, but it was still not good enough. you are still not a black belt, and Kutaragi already KO'd M$ when he announced plans to develop Cell way back in 2000.
now M$ is trying to play catchup for Xbox 720 by trying to design a Cell-like clone. they have opened up "The Computer Architecture Group" to start their own chip design division. they've even patented a blatant ripoff of the Cell's distributed computing ability, no doubt a feature that will be standard for PS4 and Xbox 720.
Cell is all about cutting game production costs and getting the most bang out of the buck aka most performance out of the hardware architecture. however it will take developers a whole generation of Cell programming experience in order to experience the benefits. you're going to see developers struggle with Xbox 720 similarly to the way they have been struggling with PS3 programming. but PS4 programming will be produce photorealistic graphics and life-like simulations that will be both cost effective for developers and quick to create, thanks to Cell. once the Cell architecture becomes as familiar as the x86 architecture, its game over for M$.

wait so whenever ps3 cuts their price, releases new skus, and new bundles, it isn't desperation. But when Microsoft does it, it totally is?
Sony fanboy logic makes my brain hurt.
Squibmacbooth @ Mar 5th 2008 12:00PM
I'm pretty sure that I went mental for halo 3. It's still played in my house (co-op, LAN, Online) basically, its the sex
wii60 ftw
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Mar 5th 2008 5:06PM
It is. I remember running towards my car after getting my copy of Halo 3.
sigh, good times good times.
Dnice @ Mar 5th 2008 12:10PM
No surprise there... they are getting their ass handed to them by Wii and PS3 in terms of sales week after week. A matter of a fact, the only region 360 is doing well sales wise in in USA... but that trend is starting to stop as PS3 (no need for me to even mention Wii since its killing the other two combine) starts to out sell it in the US.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Mar 5th 2008 12:40PM
Don't really care for 360 prices going down, since I have a PC, but if it's able to bring Wii prices down that'd be nice.
Kujel @ Mar 5th 2008 2:21PM
Since it already happened in Canada it is almost guaranteed to happen in Europe. But the really funny thing is an Arcade 360 would cost less the a Wii, HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA........
Korova @ Mar 5th 2008 2:41PM
Good for the old horse, Europe!
Their euro is so damn strong, its only fair to lower the price.
The only thing MS needs to do is advertise a little more.
Also, MS is having major PR issues with antitrust regulators in EU, which cant be helping their image. "Eeeeyuuu. I dont want to play you, MS. Mommy says you'r baaad."
Tranando @ Mar 5th 2008 3:55PM
360 is dead on Europe, a 50Euro price cut ain't gonna change anything.
The relaibility issues and DVD drive killed it's credability a long time ago.
Please no replies from American Xbots who have no idea of the 360's European status..
deaftly @ Mar 5th 2008 4:27PM
and the broken record keeps spinning.........
Phizzy @ Mar 5th 2008 8:08PM
You got Euro prices from Amazon UK?
fowl @ Mar 6th 2008 1:59AM
In Australia, the 360 is already cheaper than the Wii
Wii: $399
360 arcade: $339
