I'm hoping the local GameStop tournaments will dissuade people from showing up at the Nintendo sponsored tournmant at Best Buy in NYC, which I will be attending.

If it doesn't go too late in the night. I mean i'm no lightweight when it comes to staying up, but this weekend is already teh skrewed because of Daylight Savings time

I.E. if the Tournaments before the launch, i'll do it, but if its after, I won't. But then again, they are probably doing Time rules, not stock, so it wouldn't consume all the night.

hmm...

I agree; it sucks that DST is taking an hour away from our weekend of Brawl. Lucky Arizona residents!

Oh well, I took Monday off.

It's BEFORE. Starts at 8pm on Saturday.
We're friends with the gamestop manager, as the rules go:
Certain characters available, certain stages available, starts at 8pm, and only 'mote-'chuk-controller combo.

Going to be there for the midnight launch, come hell or high water. Our tournament, however, is on the following Wednesday. At HOOTERS. My desire to beat strangers at a video game (just kidding I suck) is slightly less influential than my pride. Gonna just play my own copy against my friends.

Well i called my gamestop and it starts at 10pm to ?. There will be one wii AND only 32 people can sign up that's it.You have to get there early to make sure your one of those 32 people. There is going to be one minute timed matches till somebody wins. Lastly, you can only use the controllers they provide i.e wiimote+nunchuk combo. Which I'm not sure how well it will work out.

But I'm going to enter to see how well I do. I haven't played in a official game tournament in a god awful long time.

I haven't played the Japanese version but i keep hearing how it's physics system plays like N64 Smash. Which from watching a ton of vids of brawl I can see that argument.

But Good Luck to anyone entering these Smash Bros. Tourney's!!!!

Saturday night are you kidding me? I have a life I'm not going to play in a tournament, I'll be at the bar. I'm sending my lil brother over to pick it up and drop it at my house for me. That way when the bars shut down it will be home waiting for me.

Playing brawl drunk is the best way to play it.

Also, what's the point of going to the bar and spending too much money to get drunk if you're just going to go home afterwards and play video games? Aren't the cool kids like you going out to hook up?

I HAVE to ask this...

Is the wii fanboy editor David Hinkle going to enter in one these Gamestop tournaments?

Does he even want to show off his Smash Bros Skills?

All 4 Gamestop/EB Game locations near me are hosting one. 2 stores are in the same mall, another store is in our outdoor mall and the fourth is in a strip outside a Super Wal-Mart, so I would have plenty of places to try it at. However I don't think I'll be able to convince my wife that going to play SSBB at midnight would be a good way to spend my time.

My fears have been alleviated as she is quite OK with me trying to get a trip to the finals. Luckily if I make it past round one round two is still in town, and round three is only a few hours away. Not that I expect to get that far mind you.

I will definitely be at playing in my local EBGames (well, I guess technically Gamespot, but I like the EBGames name better) Tournament. I've been planning on it since I found out last week.

It'll bring back memories of Wii's launch night when we played Zelda for four hours prior to midnight.

Fun times, fun times...

I'll definitely enter. The second round will also be at the start of spring break, which means I'll be near one of the stores that's hosting the second round, too. I figure I might be able to last until then before I meet someone that actually plays Smash Bros. seriously (I'm somewhere between "plays it just for fun" and "competes seriously" in terms of skill).

i'm surprised so many locations are participating. there are about 20 locations i could get to for round 1, plus a nearby location for rounds 2 and 3. too bad i don't own スマブラX, and i've only played it a few hours.

I'll line up early to get my copy first but there is no way I will do the tournament. I haven't played a Smash game for a long time & I sucked back than so I won't entering anything until I play the game & can at least beat the cpu 98% of at least medium. Should be a fun night though can't wait.

Me and my gf are actually participating. Not to win.
We play for fun.

*sigh* I'm intimidated, in all honesty... I didn't have enough money to enter any conventions with the Brawl-demo, so it doesn't really matter how good I am in Melee (which I'm mediocre-good)... because as the rules go, you can only use the Wiimote-nunchuk combo. And I'm not sure how good I'll be with that.
...that and they have to start at 8pm. Why 8? 9 is better.

My character choice? : Zelda.
I mastered fox, but everyone hates him, so I choose the Zelda-Sheik combo to calm people's tensions.
