Famitsu confirms Disgaea for Nintendo DS in Japan
As soon as NIS America began showing signs of affection, albeit casual, for Nintendo's touchable portable, hopes began to rise for the company's popular turn-based strategy series Disgaea to make the leap to the small screen. Now, according to CVG (and a crack translation team at AkaYuki), the company's Japanese arm has revealed plans to bring the franchise to the Nintendo DS in the Land of the Rising Fun.
The report, pulled from the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu, calls the game Disgaea: Prince of the Demon World. While little else has been revealed, the title alone suggests that the game stands a good chance of being a port of the original Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, which centered on Laharl, the Prince of the game's demon-infested anime hell. If true, this would be disappointing, given that it would mark the third pass at the material following last year's remake for the PSP. Then again, maybe being able to physically touch co-star Etna will be enough to inspire another visit to the Netherworld.

Disgaea finally will sell more than a million copies =)

One can hope! I love the series and it really seems right to put it on the DS. Hope it helps get the series known that little bit better.

Considering the only RPGs to sell of a million on DS start with Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, I'm not sure where you're seeing million seller here.
Now if this was Brain Training Disgaea, fuck me... triple platinum.

sheppy, sheppy... You know you want this game =)
Strategy RPG with stylus? Awesome. Just like Final Fantasy XII DS and Heroes of Mana, and Advance Wars 1 and 2, and Age of Empires... is like a mini-mouse.
And if they use a 2 gigabit card like RPG Archaic Sealed Heat, they can use full voice and full motion video. =p

I want anything by Nippon Ichi....
But I'm skeptical on the touch screen controls because, from my experiences with Heroes and Revenant Wings, touch screen simply doesn't work. Hell, I gave it up on Advance Wars really early in the game.

"I want anything by Nippon Ichi... "
Well, we all want that... and lucky us, they are developing 5 DS games... =p

I don't even use the touchscreen for Advance Wars, as I prefer the d-pad. As for Revenant Wings and Heroes of Mana, those are RPG games with RTS battle mechanism. Different stuff.
My guess is this is a Disgaea prequel. Just because it has a demon prince in the title doesn't mean it would be based on Laharl. Looking forward to it though. I have already clocked up 90 hrs playing Disgaea PSP. Being portable makes it so much easier to grind.

But.... I already own this game twice! :_(

It's not a port... I read (don't remember the source, but I will search it) that it's an original story, not a remake.
Since yesterday I have been posting this story, but Joystiq deleted the entries.

I heard its the same as the PS3 version.
Thought there might have been a GBA or DS port of that one.

And they don't even need to downgrade the graphics!

Even if it is a port, I've never played the original (yeah, stone me, I know), and having this on the DS will be most excellent.

I'm literally jumping up and down in excitement like a school girl.

Perfect addition for the DS. I'd rather spend my strategy time on the train that in front of my TV. That, and the game is only sprites anyway. It isn't like I need a whole home theater experience to enjoy good strategy.
This is awesome news. I'll probably get this instead of the PS3 version.
Robobagins @ Mar 6th 2008 11:53AM
Bet it's going to be like the cellphone game. Also what are the chances of a stateside release?
Alexisonfire @ Mar 6th 2008 1:07PM
I've known a few people who have passed up on the game because they A) Thought the game was too much of a timesink for a home console and B)Didn't own a PSP. Now I'll just have to rub this in their faces and force them to buy this game.
I really am hoping this is more of a Prequel of Disgaea or a sequel that takes place before or during Disgaea 2. But I'll hold off on buying a PSP until they release more details.
Alexisonfire @ Mar 6th 2008 1:15PM
Something to note: I've checked a few other sites, and they claim that the title is actually Disgaea: The Prince of the Netherworld and the Red Moon. Maybe an alternate reality storyline (like Etna mode in Afternoon) pertaining to one of the bad endings of the game? You know which one if you've played it and I don't want to spoil it.
Still, that title seems a lot less like a port than a semi-sequel.
Alexisonfire @ Mar 6th 2008 1:27PM
Sorry, no "the" in the name. just Prince of the Demon World and the Red Moon
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Mar 6th 2008 3:01PM
YESYESYESYESYES
*has never played it*
Psaakyrn @ Mar 6th 2008 3:54PM
Well, now you've no excuse then.
32_Footsteps @ Mar 6th 2008 6:43PM
Wait, to sell over a million copies, they'd have to first press over a million. Hard to sell a million when you don't even have that much stock.
Still, you have no idea how many friends of mine are squeeing over this news. I'm actually afraid to tell them.
Kylearan @ Mar 7th 2008 4:38AM
Wish Culcept would make a trip to the DS, too.
hvnlysoldr @ Mar 11th 2008 2:46PM
Finally I'll buy it. The irony if this had a better stroking game than Doki Doki Majou Shinpan.
