Microsoft: No Live Anywhere announcements in the immediate future
At E3 2006, Microsoft announced Live Anywhere, an initiative to bring Xbox Live, well, everywhere. The goal was for integrated play (MMO enhancement?) and Live access from Xbox 360, PC and mobile phones. MTV Multiplayer contacted Xbox Live executive John Schappert for an update on the program. In an email response, Schappert said, "We continue to make progress against the vision laid out for LIVE Anywhere and remain committed to building out the network that connects you to your games, your friends and your entertainment in a variety of ways." He also cited XNA and Zune integration as an example of this.
Microsoft also told MTV that there no Live Anywhere announcements were expected in the immediate future. The PC aspect of Live Anywhere -- Games for Windows Live -- has materialized to mixed results and acceptance.

Knowing Joystiq, they will delete this comments when they see them.

Your probably right, oh well. My giant list probably deserves to get deleted anyway.

I know this is sad but I would love to have an app on my blackberry that lets me check on buds activities for live..... That would just be great...
xFenixKnightx @ Mar 6th 2008 4:11PM
Sarcasm, right?
borocouncilman @ Mar 6th 2008 4:36PM
We have a Blackberry application for XBOX Live.
Point your Blackberry here:
http://1337pwn.com/mobile.php
The application fetches gamer information and online status for a list of friends. It works on Blackberry devices and practically anything else with a simple web browser.
You can read about it here:
http://1337pwnblog.blogspot.com/2008/02/1337pwn-xbox-live-friends-for-mobile.html
At my site, we also have an XBOX Live Friends application for the iPhone/iPod Touch as well as a MacOS dashboard widget.
You can check them out at:
http://1337pwn.com
Let me know what you think of the apps by sending a message to "borocouncilman" via XBOX Live. If there is strong interest in the Blackberry version, we'll expand its functionality.
Thanks!

Well atleast I can access my LIVE gamertag account anywhere. Work, cell, Ipod touch, etc. Send in game messages to my peeps who are playing. Edit my gamertag and pics, ck stats and more. I cant access shit on my PSN ID. Only from my PS3 >:(
PSN: KillaKornbread (the shirt is a lie!) @ Mar 6th 2008 8:23PM
ok maybe because im a PS3 owner and havent experienced the whole Xbox Live thing but why would i need to see other peoples gaming status when im not at home with my console? im not trying to be an ass or anything, im just seriously curious as why you would need all that.
lazyboy @ Mar 6th 2008 4:11PM
the entire prospect of live anywhere has made me so angry over the past year. When announced in 2006, I was excited as a 6 year old on Christmas morning, and I waited patiently all the way until 2007 with no news, 3 PC games and no mobile phone talk going into E3. After E3 2007 I gave up on the project, it's dead as far as I'm concerned. What started off as an amazing idea, the idea to purchase a game once and play it on my phone, computer or xbox was something I was more than interested in. I was excited to check gamerscores and send messages from my phone while I had downtime and occasionally get a few rounds of Uno in while waiting at the movie theater. Until seeing that picture accompanying the headline today, I'd all but forgotten about this promise, and it seems forgetting it is what Microsoft is doing too. Shame, because this truly was something Only microsoft could do, and something that would have set them apart from the rest.
copa @ Mar 6th 2008 4:15PM
"Games for Windows Live -- has materialized to mixed results and acceptance."
Actually, I think the response from third party developers has been pretty uniform.

"I was excited to check gamerscores and send messages from my phone while I had downtime."
I dont know what kind of phone you have or what ur talking about because anybody can already do this and more, just by logging into your XboxLIVE account on anything with an internet connection. Unless you were kidding of course.
Brucie B @ Mar 6th 2008 4:21PM
LOL @ Live Anywhere!!!
Kinda like before the 360 launched, when Peter moore said something like,
'your grandmother could own an xbox 360 & be making a shirt for a game like Tony Hawk' LOL
Marty @ Mar 6th 2008 4:32PM
I personally like the idea of having Live Anywhere, but it has to be free. That's the only way it will pick up.
NATO_Duke @ Mar 6th 2008 4:48PM
I had high hopes for Live Anywhere too, and think its bs that we still have nothing to use.
Neon Jebus @ Mar 6th 2008 5:14PM
This doesn't surprise me at all. How would they be able to develop a way for me to take my games anywhere if I can't even properly transfer my Arcade games to a new system?
If the DRM isn't going to allow that right now, what ring of hell would I have to endure to get it on my cell phone?
Unless they just think I'll buy Zuma to play on my 360 AND my cell AND my Zune. Oh...I see...that probably is what they hope for isn't it?
And mixed results on the Games for Windows? That can't be from a lack of titles could it? Or the long delay between console and PC release (Universe at War excluded).
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Mar 6th 2008 6:10PM

They are probably giving up due to the complete and utter failure that is Games for Windows LIVE.
Seriously, what a absolutely terrible service that was.
PeterF @ Mar 6th 2008 6:55PM
I was just wondering about this last week when I wanted to send a message to a friend on xbox live from my cell phone but its such a pain using the website on a mobile device.
Derek @ Mar 6th 2008 11:55PM
What happened to the Windows Live Arcade? I remember reading that it was supposed to launch in "Holiday 07".
