All very nice, apart from the fact that when they pulled out of the hardware business they said they were going to focus on becoming the world's #1 publisher instead.

Hey Joystiq: Stop with the Sega hate, you ignorant bastards. those annoying "not that anyone's interested" comments make me wish your sons and daughters die in car fires.

I agree with what he said, and I think that all too often, this sentiment is lost on the heads of other companies, in this industry and not. When you grow too big / too fast, and you don't take care to adjust, you could wind up like EA - the oft proprietor of many terrible games, hated by many, and in a place where the only way they can think to innovate is to buy up companies who already make innovative things.

I guess recent Sega games have been alright, but they are nothing compared to what they use to be. A first party Sega game use to be just about on par with a first party Nintendo game. Then they decided people wanted to play as a huge cat that liked to fish...

No, Sega just realized they can make more money with a mediocre game that sells 5 million copies rather than a brilliant game no one buys.

Sega may be number six in the publisher rankings, but they'll always be number one in my heart.

But Sega, know this. Just in case you do change your mind, the esteemed Mr. Jack Thompson will in all likeliness gladly offer his assistance.

I agree on the crossover but it should be in a plat former game. Something between Sonic Adventure 2 and Super Mario Galaxy.

But I completely disagree on the buyout. Sega creativity would limited if they worked with Nintendo and they can still pull some neat stuff.

Still, I think I speak for fanbois everywhere that a Nintendo buyout of Sega would be beyond Godly.

Sega, no one is interested in buying you out, thanks.

Seriously though I miss the old days of Sega. Everything went downhill after Biggs the Cat.

A Nintendo buyout of SEGA would not be good for my health. It'd be brilliant though. SEGA had some amazing games on Gamecube, including Super Monkey Ball and Nintendo let them develop F Zero GX which looks amazing, even by today's standard.

I agree with SEGA though that they don't need huge company or be no 1 as long as they can produce brilliant games and produce a healthy profit for its size.

Everything we need to know is on the following sentence:

Jeffrey said he was pleased with Sega's mix of franchises, which include games based on the upcoming "Iron Man" and "Hulk" movies, a Sonic role-playing game for the DS, and a title resurrecting its arcade classic "Golden Axe".

New Golden Axe and a Bioware Sonic. The only thing that could make me more happy was to hear the "SEEEGAAA".

And how did Sega got Iron Man and Hulk? I thought the big dudes (EA, THQ, Actvision) were getting it. Well, who told then to be busy with mergers?

Wow, did Nintendo ever throw sega a bone in letting them use Mario. Does anyone know the details on that deal?

Well, Sega got Mario to the Olympics, and Nintendo got Sonic into the Brawl. Not exactly an even trade (Brawl would have sold just fine anyways), but everyone benefits, so it's all good.

I kind of thought that it was something like that. I just didn't want to assume.

Nintendo/SEGA buyout would give Nintendo something they desperately need: the skeleton of the old SegaNet (which Sega still has for their online games, just not as a single subscription service)

Nintendo could take old SegaNet and build a much more competent online interface

This just reminds me of those TV shows for kids when a boy has a crush on a girl, so he's so focused on her that he asks her how she's doing and if she'd like to go out with him and party or whatever, and her best friend is standing right there feeling left out and so she answers his questions even though he never asked her. "I'm doing great! Thanks for asking!" and "Oh, we'd love to go!"

Sega is that girl's best friend.
