If there was any doubt that EA would continue to milk the lucrative cash cow that is Will Wright's Sims franchise, that doubt can now be officially expelled. EA has created an official page for the next title in the series -- titled, appropriately enough, The Sims 3.
The site features little else besides the above image, which teases more details coming on March 19. Our Holmesian deductive reasoning lets us assume that this title will be a return to form for the Sims series, as opposed to another entry in the adorable but divergent MySims line. With work on Spore wrapping up after eight years, it's also possible that Mr. Wright himself may take an active role in the game's development. Guess we'll all have more information come March 19 (finally, something to anxiously look forward to besides Brawl).

Really, what more can they do after The Sims 2? It's pretty much "The Sims"-formula perfected.
Making a nicer graphics engine will be almost useless, how many casual gamers run powerhouses of computers, anyway?
The girls I know who play The Sims 2, usually play them on their laptops, leading to severely low framerates (although they don't really seem to care..)

i loved the sims...but a friend of mine recently articulated a major flaw in the game style:
You spend all that time working with your sim in order to get them in a good mood and eventually receive a promotion, meaning more money and more items to get your sim in a good mood and eventually receive another promotion...
i.e. the main problem of the sims is that it's based in bitter reality.

*gasp* I never expected this. Oh its from EA, never-mind then, they can keep milking the cow thats pretty much done giving some.

No, sims will never finished being milked, they still havent added a proper holiday option where you actually go to the airport and annoy other sims, get on the plan and spend hours either watching movies or causing havoc, and get to the other country and get to complain about your stuff ending up somewhere else.

I never understood the hatered of the sims from some of the gaming comunity. For some reason, games that let you explore you creativity get lots of flack from some of the "hardcore". I have seen similair, if not quite as venomeous comments for games like Roller Coaster Tycoon and the Movies. The reason games like this have such lasting power is the story is up to you. Although this game is considered a casual game, its really quite deep and has an outstanding mod community.

@Kujel: Its not a game? I don't particularly like The Sims but, to call it not a game is ridiculous. If you are calling all simulations not a game, then that means you are calling Sim City not a game? Roller Coaster Tycoon (the original was brilliant) not a game?
I am sorry they aren't shooters, but they still are a game.

So the question for me is, it this new Sims game going to divert Will's attention for a new, proper entry to the SimCity series? I think we're long overdue now.

I was JUST thinking about this the other day. I would not be surprised at all if this is an EA move rather than a Will Wright move. Seriously, what the **** could you improve over the Sims 2? That game is absolute perfection, hands down, no overhauls needed. As an avid Sims player since the release date of Sims 1, I cannot think of anything, not one thing to change that would require a Sims 3. You look at The Sims 1's progress to The Sims 2, and it's absolutely amazing, cause of the changes of technology which forced a Sims 2. But there is nothing at all that forces a Sims 3 yet. But I guess it's gonna happen, but I'm not touching this thing with a 10 foot poll unless Wright is heavily involved, or else it'll end up being another trademark EA 7.0 scoring game.

Is probably going to be a graphical update also the amount of options avalible for each Sim since in the sims 2 where pretty limited.I only bought 1 expansion thought.
Also all the options from all the Sims 2 expansion packs,I heard some features were pretty cool but not enough to drop 20$-30$.

This isn't entirely news, anyone who picked up the most recent Sims 2 expansion pack (My wife) received a new option for games to play on the tv or computer, the option is Sims 3. It plays a short video consisting of a sim walking across a street, building a sim and picking shoes and other such sim things.
You can actually view the preview on youtube

Why must ppl hate what they don't truly understand. The Sims games are games either non-gamers or hardcore fans will love. Everyone else either hates it or is bored with it. You can play The Sims for forever. As long as you have a driven community, expansions, and a company who loves to take your money (EA), it will never die. Frankly as a fan myself, I don't want it to die because I love it and it pisses twitch gamers who like stab dinos in the head off. That's makes all the difference

Now I wait for them to release the Sims 2: Complete Collection like they did for the original...

It's JUST LIKE Sims 2, except that it has more polygons, requires more memory and a faster CPU, and won't let you use any of the $500 worth of Sims add-ons that you've already purchased.

Sims is not a game it fails the definition of a video game and I get really pissed off when dumb asses call it one. Will Wright has yet to produce a game, hell spore may fail the definition.

Video? Entertainment? What part of those criteria it fails? That's like saying Playdoh is not a toy.

Hey heres an idea, why don't you all shut up and stop whining about it! What is the point in bitching about a game that you yourselves claim is 'A waste of time and space'. Everyones differnt. Why can't someone walk into a shop say "Wow, I love the sims I might buy this game." Just as you all probably say "Wow, I love ______ I might buy this game."
All of your comments are a waste of time and space.
Sorry, just had to post my point.
