Rather than a Blu-Ray drive, I would prefer a cheaper, bigger hard-drive and more downloadable HD movies on marketplace. If I were MS, i'd rather have people buying MS points than Blu-ray discs anyway. With the economics of digital downloads, wouldn't it be smart to sell a $100 200GB hard-drive with a redeemable code for 10 free movies? I'd buy that before another goofy disc drive for more stupid discs. I got discs. I'm sick of 'em. I don't need more.

I still wouldnt buy a blu-ray player for xbox 360 given how often it breaks. You are better off buying a PS3 or stand alone Blu-Ray palyer

Or how about giving us the option to download the movies permenantly, to own them outright, delete, and download again later for free. If it's 5 bucks to rent a movie for 24 hours, then why not 20 to own the movie, disc free, in HD. If they did this, I think it would seem like a more lucrative deal for the consumer. They would be more likely to replace DVD sales if people didn't just see them as an "on demand" service. One that sometimes is less "on demand" than cable or satelite.

I like both systems PS3 & Xbox 360, but there really is no advantage to having this except for watching movies. Yeah blu-ray movies are amazing, but this isn't going to help gaming for Xbox 360...simply because if they make blu-ray games then that means everyone that owns a 360 has to go out and get this couple hundred dollar attachment...which would really piss 360 owners off if they ended up buying the HD-DVD attachment...That puts the 360 price up around $800 if you have both attachments...Correct me if I am wrong but is the idea for the blu-ray attachment for making blu-ray games or just movies alone?

Sony is not the only hardware manufacture in the Blu Ray group. Im sure Samsung would cut MS a good deal on hardware.

"Yeah blu-ray movies are amazing, but this isn't going to help gaming for Xbox 360"

True, but does Blu-Ray really help gaming either? Sure, it gives the developers more space to work with, but can't the same thing be accomplished with multiple DVDs? I wrote a nice long blog entry about how Blu-Ray can't physically increase game quality since it doesn't work off the same premise as movies.

"...why not 20 to own the movie, disc free, in HD"

Dude, that would be amazing. And I am not talking about that 720p crap that's on the marketplace now. I am talking full 1080p. The problem with that though, is the ol' 20GB hard drive will get filled awfully quick...for me, with only 10GB to spare, that's basically me storing one movie at a time. Even with a Microsoft WHS set up in the house, Microsoft still doesn't allow you to store DRMed files to anything other than the built in console HDD. To make that fully practical, even the 120GB drive isn't enough. Damnit Microsoft, pull a Sony and let me put ANY hard drive in there I want!
