Major League Baseball 2K8 has been on retail shelves for all of a few days and already 2K Sports has released downloadable content to the XBLM. Usually we'd be angry when a developer releases new DLC the same week the game comes out, because A) it should have been included on the disc and B) we know they simply want to make a few bucks off the held back content. But, in this case, it's actually a good thing because the MLB 2K8 content is free. W00t, w00t! So, if you picked up you copy of MLB 2K8 this week and live in the U.S. or Canada, head to the XBLM and get your three free MLB 2K8 DLC downloads including the 2K8 Minor League Stadium Pack, Majestic Cool Base Uniforms and the Card Series 2 roster update. Free downloads FTW!

trying to find the link where they explained the extra DLC is released at the same time that the game, because they hit the space limits, the PS3 version has them on the disk. It is good to know that the XBox 360 owners got everything this way.
I want a demo of this game on my PS3, I am still undecided about it and MLB 2008: The Show. Do the XBLM has a demo of it so i can check it on a friends house?

You wouldn't recommend it if you played MLB: The Show.

It's DLC because they couldn't fit it all on a DVD. The PS3 comes with all the DLC on the disc.

I have owned just about every baseball game produced dating back to Sega Genesis days, and I have never seen a game that felt as cheaply produced, untested, lazy, and wasteful as MLB 2K8.
From major components to tiny details, 2K managed to screw them all up with this one.
First of all, the graphics are awful. Period. Players rarely resemble their real-life counterparts, the ball pops out of a pitcher's hand during the delivery at a point that would be impossible in real life, and throws across the diamond result in a vanishing ball that you never really do see get to first base. Using the "dynamic" camera setting will often block you from seeing the ball you are trying to field because 2K thought it would be a good idea to make sure the backstop would be in the picutre on ground balls. Great idea. These guys are getting too cute with stupid things like that and paying no attention to what matters in a game.
On to gameplay... The new pitching and throwing interface is a waste of time. I wish they would have spent time working on the basics of the game and getting them even close to right before trying to mess around with the controls. I elected to switch to classic mode to see if that helped the game not be as jerky and glitchy, but no such luck.
You will find your batter will "check swing" at very unfortunate times. Usually when a "meatball" is served up by the pitcher. I have no idea why this is, but I guarantee you when you think you time a swing just right, your batter will check his swing without you doing it. That is extremely frustrating.
Fielding the ball in the infield is way too easy. The guys are like vacuum cleaners and basically go get the ball for you, even if you have the assist mode turned off.
The game itself looks like a cluttered mess from the opening screen and never lets up. There are graphics everywhere. On the main screen, 90% of it is wasted on logos and pictures, with the functional parts running across the top of the screen in tiny brown "tabs." I don't know who decided this was a good idea, but it is a major step backward from the layout of 2k7.
The different home run derby modes have been removed fom last year as well.
High Def players will notice an almost constant flashing in the background of the screen. I don't know what causes this, though I'm quite sure it has to do with the laziness of the game designers. The jerky motions, jumping ball, vanishing throws, "collisions" between players who on replay miss each other by 3 feet, horrible camera angles, and sloppy design are probably their fault too.
But here's my biggest question: Did anybody at 2K play this game before it got released? Seriously. There are so many bugs it's insane. Why did they think it was OK to put this game out to the public? I would be embarased. And I sincerely hope many others play this game and feel the same way. I hope people don't buy this and force them to put out a product better than Baseball Stars for the NES! This is the problem with a monopoly! 2K can produce absolute garbage, but if people want a baseball game, they have to go with this.
Here's something that bothered me big-time that proves my point of ZERO attention to detail at 2K: When playing with the Cardinals in the first game I played, the announce crew said that the Cardinals had just opened their "brand new ballpark," while at the same time showing a graphic that shows Busch Stadium having opened in 1966. What the heck is that? and it's not brand new either, this is their second full year in it.
In short, if you want a game where the designers gave you jerseys that blow in the wind, this is for you. If you don't want a game that is choppy, slow, poorly produced, made with recycled commentary from last years' game, flashing backgrounds, terrible controls, and otherwise lazy design, I'd skip this.
