Joystiq Podcast 040 - Over the Hill edition

Just because a game is GOTY, still $50 implies that the game has enough bang for the buck. And Portal doesn't have it. When you have paid $50 for Portal, and have it on your shelf, will you care more about the fact that you actually have a great game in your collection, OR that you wasted too much money on a short experience. There's nothing extra, no chance for replayability. It could easily have been a portable game, each level lasting 5-10 minutes.

My friend really wants Portal for the PC, but to him, $20 is just not worth it. And I believe lots of people take the longevity=price value argument, rather than just because a game is GOTY. Plus, GOTY is very subjective, many GOTY games are overrated. So, a game being GOTY doesn't justify a product's retail price.

My friend doesn't want Orange Box because he's already played Episode 1 and 2, and doesn't care for TF 2, so all he cares for is Portal, but Valve isn't helping with making the game $10 (which should be the price IMO).

So, I think my argument is still valid.

You guys discussing how many GH3 songs you each bought TOTALLY reminded me of the scene in Willy Wonka (original) in the classroom when the teacher is asking all the kids how many Wonka Bars they've bought while teaching them math.

Oh Joystiq podcast, I remember when you were just old enough to drink, and now you're old enough to be Ludwig's mother. Or my mother if she were a teenage prostitute when I was conceived.

I became enraged after hearing Chris's assessment of Condemned, until I realized that I agreed with everything he said. If you treat that game like a survival horror game and not an FPS, the control issues aren't nearly as bad, but actually a dramatic step up from a game like Silent Hill. I thought the game did a really good job of making it feel like every bullet was precious when you did actually find a gun, thus making it a really tense experience over all.

HAHAHAHA, that's a damn good photoshop of the crew.

btw Chris, Lite? You mean PSP SLIM, right?? o yea, it was fun playing CoD4 with you guys. let's play more cuz i unlocked all the perks now. ^^

btw guys, i knew Lego Halo was a big joke as well. it's amazing to me how many people sent you trips thinking it's real. as soon as i saw that article in the mag, i was like "nice try EGM". i eveb posted in GAF tha it was the worst April Fool's joke evar. hehe
