Rumor: 20GB Xbox 360 is out, 60GB is in
TrustedReviews is pretty confident about their latest "world exclusive" – they say the Xbox 360's 20GB hard drive is going the way of the Core system (read: dying), and in its place we'll have a 60GB Pro system. While the site is sure their info is on the money, they're not sure about when we can expect this new drive (before the end of Microsoft's fiscal year, says their source, which ends June 30). Will the hard drive-less Arcade console replace the missing 20GB model? They can't be sure, but they do say the boys in Redmond are considering adding another SKU to their increasingly complex product lineup. Something in between the Arcade and the 60GB? Or perhaps something with built-in Blu-ray (if that "makes sense")?

Aw, crap.
WhoMe @ Mar 7th 2008 1:59PM
Yeah.
Heck do they even make 20gig HDD's anymore?? How much did they charge for the HDD add-on, 100 bucks? Was that 20 or 60?
I don't get why people are complaining about the PS3 SKU's if you look at all the 360 SKU's that've been around.
I wonder if those integrated HD-DVD 360's were more than a rumour at CES.

hey, people are downvoting the second one now, and it lost half a heart. lets pull together and restore its former glory.

@WhoMe
I think everyone complains about both Sony and MS doing the stupid multi-SKU plans. But I think, an opinion that a lot share, that MS is dumb for keeping a no-hdd SKU.
GreyFox @ Mar 7th 2008 8:36PM
Crap is right as this article seems to imply that they wont get rid of that fucking Core SKU. For Christs sake Microsoft just stop this already.

THIS IS FUC$IN BULL$HIT. Why? Why are these companies putting these puny little hard drives in these systems if im supposed to use them as my media center? How can i download tv shows, copy my music, store saved games, arcade games, and download game expansions with this little space. I have over 60 arcade games, close to twenty shows, and just had to delete all my music for space along with my 2 xbox originals, and 47 arcade games. Maybe next gen the consumer will be able to use their own hard drives (unlikely) instead of these overpriced pos that are 5+ years obsolete compared to pc hard drives. Im still unhappy about paying 100.oo for the 20 and i hate having to download things over and over to constantly micromanage space. Im a gamer and like to be able to play any game ive downloaded, or use the saves i have on a retail disc with out having to go through the download again and again fiasco. Im about to get a 120 but im not sure i should if they are gonna keep adding new skus and im also worried about DRM when i transfer the data.
The Stig @ Mar 7th 2008 3:07PM
You know, with concern towards the media, you can always stream it from somewhere else.
Thats what I do; stream about a TB worth of music and videos from my computer and everything is hunky dory.
THE WICKER MAN (BWF) (GT: Dalek Prime) @ Mar 7th 2008 3:30PM
me no haves good computer...sigh. all is lost. ;)
Ordeith @ Mar 7th 2008 5:37PM
The 360 isn't intended to be *the* media center. It is intended to be a device on a media centric network.
And that it does very, very well.

I hope the 20 gig goes the way of the DeLorean.
This thing needs to die. 20 gigs isn't enough for anything. A few demos and movies and it's gone.
Now when will they make the hard drive come with every console?
Actually, the 20 gig should come with the arcade, so they can download a few games/demos/movies.
xFenixKnightx @ Mar 7th 2008 1:40PM
"Actually, the 20 gig should come with the arcade, so they can download a few games/demos/movies."
I agree 100%
ComicShaman @ Mar 7th 2008 2:10PM
"I hope the 20 gig goes the way of the DeLorean."
Does this mean you want to rig it up with a nuclear-powered flux capacitor and get it up to 88 miles per hour? Because I'd like to see that, too.

20 gigs is more then enough for me. I own an elite (120gb) only because I wanted hdmi and I purchased it back when pros did not have hdmi. To date, I have 2gb of 120gb used. This includes game saves for all my games, some levels I built in some games, 3 profiles, and 10 arcade games. When I download game demos, I use up around 3-4 more GB and then once im done with the demo its gone anyway so I get it back. so yeah, my drive has never had more then 7gb used on it at once. I cant understand how people could possibly need more then 20, let alone 120 thats in the elite?
I can understand MS switch to 60gb however. 20gb drives are probably at a point where its costing microsoft more money to include a 20gb drive in the console then it would a 60gb drive.
Martez @ Mar 7th 2008 2:17PM
"I cant understand how people could possibly need more then 20, let alone 120 thats in the elite?"
Movies and music? I'm using 30gb on my PS3 right now, and that is with two demos and 1 downloaded game.

Either that, or he's wishing the sku gets arrested for cocaine charges!
Matt @ Mar 7th 2008 2:38PM
20 Gig has been more than enough for me too. I've had my system since launch. I download movies, demos, etc. Movies are temporary and who keeps a demo?
Co @ Mar 7th 2008 3:21PM
"Actually, the 20 gig should come with the arcade, so they can download a few games/demos/movies."
"I agree 100%"
But see, therein lies a problem guys. The problem of common sense. And that's just not the business that Microsoft is in.
xFenixKnightx @ Mar 7th 2008 3:38PM
I have 8 gigs left on mine. Launch Strong!! ;)
Gavin @ Mar 7th 2008 4:14PM
I go on XBLA spending binges and buy Rock Band songs almost every week. With a 20 gig HDD, I've still got almost 8 gigs left and I haven't even really done any housekeeping recently. Seriously....what the hell is the point of the bigger drive? Trying to get me into buying movies? Sorry, but I've got it hooked up to my PC and with Divx support I don't need it. There is really no reason for a HDD that big on a console.
Dr. Stabbingworth @ Mar 7th 2008 4:53PM
My 20 gig is enough, but only because I can't import 30 gigs of MP3 files to it (stupid DRM nonsense). However, I just plug in my Zune (although then the 360 doesn't recognize playlists).
Actually, after writing that I have to say, what the shit, MS, what the shit.
Rususeruru @ Mar 7th 2008 10:54PM
@Dr. Stabbingworth: Actually... when you are presented the first two folders after selecting the Zune, go to the one below Music/Albums... that will show your play lists, they work fine for as long as you don't have too much music on the playlist if you do it may fail to load.
vidGuy @ Mar 7th 2008 1:37PM
Not surprised. Kinda bummed here since I just picked up another 20GB 360 but at least I got a Falcon this time.

Strap in a wireless card and you've got yourself a sale.
Who am I kidding, they're not going to pass up possible $100 sales of their wireless adapter just to make me happy.
