I am sadly going to have to agree with Pieman. The PS3 "Darkside" box art is really good looking.

Not that the 360 box art is bad looking but the Evil shade, is pure awesomeness.

I read somewhere (maybe even here--I don't remember) that the developer said the other exclusive characters may eventually be available as DLC.

I'd much rather play as Vader.

I had my preorder in for this game so long ago. I just absolutely love Soul Calibur. Best fighting game out there by far (yes, even better than VF and DoA). And if someone doesn't buy this game because of the box art, I am going to slice them with a katana.

I just don't get it. Yoda was always cooler, and that lightsaber duel with Count Dooku sealed the deal. Yet it's all "Vader, Vader...".

They guaranteed one sale of the 360 version with the choice they made, anyway...

Well i like the 360 art it's hot. I think they did the dark side and light side based upon the original color of each system xbox 360 white ps3 blk which would make sense.

A gremlin voiced by miss piggy, or a big penis shaped half-machine villain voiced by Mufasa.

THESE ARE SUCH IMPOSING FIGURES.

well, I like the 360's more. Then again I've always been more attracted to playing the "good side" in video games. Makes up for my demonic real life tendencies. *chuckle*

I still say this is the dumbest idea ever.

I mean, this series has you fight with swords and bladed weapons, but there's never any blood or wounding! No limbs ever leave bodies. There's more blood in STREET FIGHTER II than there is in Soul Calibur.

And now they want to add lightsabers to the mix? Lightsabers that DON'T cut people?

Further, they're putting two lightsaber-wielding characters into the games, but they WON'T BE ABLE TO FIGHT EACH OTHER?!?!

And how will they even fit these characters from long, long ago in a another galaxy that's "far, far away" into the existing storyline?

Dumb, dumb, dumb.

If I hit someone in the neck with a big-ass sword, I at least expect some blood, if not decapitation, instead of a flash of light and them getting knocked back but otherwise appearing unharmed.

Call me when Soul Calibur grows up and the characters actually wound each other with their wicked-looking, apparently blunt & useless toy swords.

And to think I ever liked this series. Pfeh!

Zero, have you ever heard of things like 'fun' or 'good gameplay'?

I love Forza Motorsport 2 and it is definitely the best simulation racer there is, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy Burnout Paradise just because it isn't 'believable'.

The stuff in Soul Calibur has never been intended to be realistic. You are talking about Lightsabers cutting people, well how do you explain Ivy's sword? Or how do the Katana's not cut off limbs? I'm sure a Katana could lop an arm off just like a lightsaber, but that's not the point. This isn't Ninja Gaiden II, this is Soul Calibur. It's a fighting game with health bars, not one slice and you are done for the round.

Furthermore, some dude with slicked hair and a white vest armed with nunchuks, isn't going to stand a chance against an undead, eight-foot tall, 500 pound hellspawn, swinging an axe as large as a bus. But what 'should happen' isn't what the game is about.

I agree with some of the other people, i think it was kind of cool when they announced yoda for 360 and vader fro ps3, but i think they are taking it too far with this box art (if it is the real box art) .

Obi-Wan is the man, glad someone agrees (Magic Whiskey). I mean considering he was so much weaker with the force he was able to hold his own to several major villians in the movies/animated series. Plus in the first three movies the actor playing Obi-Wan was awesome.

I'll settle for Yoda though, Vadar is too cheesy.

Anticrawl, Obi-Wan was never portrayed as 'weaker' in the Force..far from it actually. It's Kenobi who is the only Jedi that's able to use the Force to speak to Luke from the afterlife (after his training from the spirit from Qui-Gon, acts we've never seen actually happen in a Star Wars movie, yet they did happen.)

One road that Lucas showed us, yet didn't really go down was talked briefly about in Phantom Menace. Qui-Gon could sense the potential in Anakin because the Jedi Master was so in tune with the 'Living Force'. You can say it was almost like a Native American sense of life.
Obi-Wan sensed issues "Elsewhere..elusive" because he was more in tune with the larger, less specific 'Unifying Force'. This is something he shared with Yoda; Yoda could sense the evil within Palpatine and felt pains when Anakin turned to the Dark Side. Also, Ben Kenobi felt 'a disturbance' when Alderaan was destroyed.

Eh I guess so. I still felt he was the underdog, relying on his wits and vast experience to take the advantage in a battle.

I'm not sure who in the Microsoft library would fit, but a GREAT and FITTING guest appearance on the PlayStation 3 would certainly have been Kratos. He, like Link in the GameCube version of SCIII, would at least make a little more sense.

PS3 wins this one hands down. Being able to play as Vader is 100 times cooler than playing as a little green puppet.

I actually like the 360 box art better, but I'd much rather play as Vader and can't see how anyone could play a fighting game with the 360 controller (great overall controller, but useless d-pad) so this will be the first multiplatform game that I get on the PS3 instead.

I wonder if they chose which console got which character based strictly on the color of the console...

@PerfectSrategy

That's the WHOLE POINT of my rant. The game is ridiculous now. It was cute back when it first came out (on the Dreamcast is was very good) but now, after a few more version, it's looking lame compared to what's out there. Ivy's sword SHOULD cut off limbs! So should the katana and every other big-ass bladed weapon on that game!

It's absolutely, brain-numbingly stupid that you can hit someone with a GIANT BATTLEAXE and they suffer no physical damage whatsoever.

Games have evolved, but Soul Calibur has not. It's stuck in the 90s, and hasn't grown up at all.

Are you guys SERIOUSLY saying you wouldn't think Soul Calibur would be a BETTER game if they started allowing limb-cutting, visible wounding, blood, and special attacks that decapitate your opponent?

Sorry, but I'd consider buying it if Sophia (or whoever replaces her) could slice Voldo's head clean off with her gladius. Hitting him and getting a flash of light as the reward is no longer cool. It's dumb.

This isn't the arcade anymore. They don't have to worry about blood and gore, or making the game suitable for general audiences. It's been a console-specific franchise for a few incarnations now, and it's time the updated it and allowed some REAL sword-fighting instead of this 1980s fighting game engine that ignores the damage swords would really cause.

Jonah Falcon,

er, could you please provide a link to an article that states that Yoda will be available for the PS3 and Vader for the 360 through DLC?

Because I have only seen 2 articles, the Interview with the producer while in Las Vegas, and the main article from 1up and neither one mention that...

zerocorpse, every round would be over in ten seconds if they took on real damage when attacked, they would have to make some special move to even wield a weapon if they actually cut off heads so the majority of game play would just be punches and kicks. if i wanted to play mortal kombat then i would buy mortal kombat. list any fighting game that has "evolved" in its execution so much that the damage from each move is prevelant on the opponent. it must be just painful for you to watch sci-fi or fantasy movies, what with them being fake and all.
