Gameloft, Id to develop for iPhone
In a post on Slashdot, id's programming wizard John Carmack lauded Apple's 70% royalty deal and distribution deal. As for the SDK, Carmack said, "Just based on the blurbs, it looks very good -- a simulator plus debugging on the native device is the best of both worlds." Id also noted it had to put in an application for development like everyone else. Can we get an official version of Doom now?

Apple just turned their phone into a sweet mobile computing/gaming platform. That new SDK has totally changed the game.
Glad I bought it when they slashed it by $200. LOL.

I know you don't like the phone Marty - but those of us who have them have reason to be pretty excited about this stuff. I think gaming on it will be a lot of fun.
It's just coincidental that developers are realizing they can make games with this SDK, and good ones too. It's just like a lot of features on your cell phone. They aren't the main part of the device, but the fact that they are there is pretty cool.
I'm looking forward to it at least. Not sure I want to be playing Doom on my iPod Touch though...I could think of better things to play on it.
People here sure are quick to judge others, eh?
I'm not new here either.

Notice that the announcement was about two companies other than Apple. Apple didn't tell them what to develop--They chose to use the SDK for games.
Until then, keep hating.
