While I love the Max Payne games, and always thought it could make a great movie, Mark Wahlberg as Max Payne? Really? Not only does he not look anything like Max from either game, he just doesn't hav the same type of voice to pull off the over-the-top noir monologues that gave the game so much of it's style. It seems like they are just turning the movie into a stupid action flick, rather than the noir/action hybrid it should have been. Granted, this is totally based on the casting job of Max, so I could be totally off.

Odd how this is both good casting and a bad career move for wahlberg.

VERY VERY OFF TOPIC..... but i have a question. to anyone that would like to answer..

Any recommend Dreamcast games?

is the Dreamcast hackable? can a ripped game be downloaded to a CD-R?

i just uncovered my working dreamcast that went in the closet 9 years ago now.......wow it's been that long?!

anyway. thanks to anyone who replies.

Don't care to much for Payne. some games should stay games. Silent Hill....Tomb raider...Resident Evil are the exception.

Resident Evil should've stayed a game.

That said, yeah, Dreamcast games can be burned to CD-Rs no problem. No mod chip or anything like that necessary. Sega didn't bother implementing any significant copy protection for whatever reason.

I personally didnt care much for the film adaptation for RE. But the box office numbers dont lie. it was a blockbuster. I saw the end of part one. the middle of part two. and the entire third one. I LOVE RESIDENT EVIL. I Got a GAMECUBE just to play 0 and 1 (again).

Soooo based off of that picture. I'd say Johnny Knoxville would play a great Max.

Based on face-scrunching ability, they probably should have opted for French Stewart: http://site.steelcityauctions.com/french.jpg

Dude, Michael Madson 20 years ago would've been perfect for this part.

Sweet, they're filming right in the heart of downtown and the financial district. Hopefully this is A-roll shooting and not just B-camera footage/stunts/effects, and considering the times and streets they chose, they spared little expense (though in all fareness, the new Hulk movie blocked up an even bigger chunk of Yonge last year and I could see the huge spot lighting from my condo all night).

Glad to see productions still coming to Hollywood North, despite their dollar being so crappy. Guess I'll take a walk out at lunch and see if I can spot me some Mila Kunis...

Max Payne is the only game that I have beat more than 3 times. It's my all time favorite. And seeing that it's finally getting a film, brings a tear to my eye.

Tears of joy or tears of sadness? I share your love of Payne. I still love playing Max Payne 2. It's one of those games where I will beat a part and just reload from my previous save to try and do it with more style. Great game... Not sure about the movie though unless it involves prolific amounts of pain killers.

There must be enough money put into this project, they were using the "sub" subway at Bay Station for most of all last week. I can only imagine doing that it would cost a pretty penny.

Max Payne featured gritty, slum-like locales. The areas they are filming have gleaming hi-rise office towers. Doesn't make sense.

I would think the age of the game will aid in it doing well as a movie.

Many people will not think of it as a game adaptation and will just think of it as a story about a cop getting revenge and killing a lot of criminals. On top of that will be those of us who knew the game & will file in to see it as well.

His hair isn't tall enough. :-(

he was good in the Corrupted and The Departed (though that film was a hugely poor imitation of the original)

Infact, since he was Chow Yun Fat's co-star in CYF's first Hollywood movie, and Max Pain is obviously hugely inspired by CYF movies... it kinda makes sense...

They REALLY should have gotten the guy who actually does the voice of Max Payne to star (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0564548/ ).

Having the same voice would really help, and if you've ever watched Rescue Me, you'll know that he looks the part a LOT more than Wahlberg.

He was great in the Departed, but being the gritty quiet type doesn't work for Marky Mark. But, they said the same thing about Matt Damon...

I kind of pictured Clive Owen's character from Sin City as a good start for the character.

Ah I live in Northern Toronto. These locales are too far for me and are set right at the heard of downtown.

Wish I had the time to commute down to see them.

The 2007 Clive Owen movie 'Shoot-em-Up' was very very Max Payne - and was utterly ace! Slap some brilliantly bleak Max monologues in there and you've got a winner!

Mark W is a decent enough actor and reckon could do a good job with the role.

Well there is a great love for the story. This isn't the only Max Payne movie. There is another one that is more indepedent that HAS the approval of the creator and writer for the story. http://www.payneandredemption.com/
So even if the big money guys make a crappy movie there will be better one coming.

I'm keeping an open mind. Marky has suprised me in the past. He did a pretty good job in The Departed and The Shooter (at least in my opinion. Seems like I'm the only one who liked that one). And if his career could survive the craptacular Planet of the Apes Remake debacle, I doubt Max Payne will make a dent. With video game based movies, 80% of whether or not the suck depends on script and direction.

Still waiting for the film adaptation of Centipede

I was on set (or as close as I could get) yesterday at King & Yonge when they crushed a police car from building debris. They started set up around mid-day and blew it at almost midnight!
The night before, on the 25th storey roof of my building, I had a perfectly clear view of police and camera helicopters hovering next door, shining their lights in the windows for a scene. :)
