Heaven or Hell! Aksys bringing Guilty Gear 2 Overture to Xbox 360
Proving that old sprites never die (they just go 3D), upstart publisher Aksys has confirmed that it will release Arc System Works' "tactical action game" Guilty Gear 2: Overture in North America this fall for the Xbox 360. The game, which takes characters from the Guilty Gear 2D fighting game series and injects them into a kind of bizarre amalgamation of 3D action and strategy, cannot help but remind us of last year's Soul Calibur Legends...and we're less than enthused to put ourselves through that experience again without some measure of alcohol.
The game is the latest attempt at reinventing the storied franchise, following 2004's Guilty Gear Isuka, which upped the ante by allowing up to 4 players slug it out in a chaotic battle royal. Overture instead turns its attention to the series' complicated, often convoluted post-apocalyptic storyline, with spiky-headed Sol Badguy and his rectangular sword leading the charge in large scale battles while "balancing resources and deploying troops." Frankly trying to wrap our heads around how this will all work has given us a headache, so we're just going to file this one away in our 'might be interesting' basket and go have a lie-down.

There is a typo in the title, it should say Guilty not Guity.

Nothing to see here...move along....
Thanks :)

I don't know anything about the game, but that picture makes it looks like it's a Guilty Gear spinoff of Dynasty Warriors. In that case, do not want! Please make it better.

They should really stick to 2-D. Their 2-D sprites are the best in the business and they're only getting better with them.
Their 3-D work is very weak. Stick to 2-D....you're the best at that.

Tell that to T-Ray...anyway I wish they would have made an animated series of the story, it's like they've been teasing us about it. Like the video in Guilty Gear XX...I thought that was a preview of the show! I mean come on! CHIMICHANGA MAN!!!! CHIMICHANGA!!!

His real name is Frederick....If I am correct he changed his name after the "Gear project".

While I hate to see the series turn that direction, I'm pretty impressed by the visuals in the screenshots. I mean, they aren't horrible by any means.
Anyway, I miss my old Guilty Gear games....and Gon..from Tekken 3.
Tyrus @ Mar 12th 2008 1:59AM
GON! Anything after Tekken 3 in that series just makes me miss that character.
I still play Guilty Gear X regularly over here, but never really moved on to later games in the series. This sounds a lot like Dynasty Warriors, but the screenshots don't really have much in the way of troops. The extra healthbars and red vs blue map do support that, though.
If I'm going to be fighting hundreds of people at once, Potemkin please.

Ya know, it seems to me that instead of actually playing any of the Guilty Gear games, you've proven you can read a Wikipedia page and rewrite it.
Congratulations.
Also, I am actually looking forward to this game. Then again, I am a whore for the series (I own all of them), so, yeah, i'll be buying it.

If someone besides Koei can make a decent Musuo game, I encourage it. In fact, I'm waiting for Drag-On Dragoon 3. Competition drives innovation and I'd like to see the genre pushed forward.

This game wont cut it sorry, this game is 2D I dont know why you want to change what was successful. I will never understand this.

There is nothing to worry about as long as the heavy metal soundtrack is mantained. Let's Rock!
