Don't you guys get it? Those aren't 2D sprites. If you look closely, cross your eyes if you have to, and stare at that picture without blinking for 17 minutes, you'll notice that those are 4D sprites. And what system can do 4D? Well, the PS3, of course. Der!

Not only that, it's capable of dual monitor dual HDMI dual 1080p play, so yeah...no-go on the Ps2.

Eye candy isn't that important when the game is good enough. I still go back to some of my PS1 games from time to time and they're ugly as sin by today's standards but that doesn't make them any less fun.

"Eye candy isn't that important when the game is good enough. I still go back to some of my PS1 games from time to time..."

So do I once or twice a year, if that. But how many hours to you spend grinding away at the PS1 vs. games that are more recent? If the answer is anywhere close to equal, then you are not really representative of the gaming public.

Given a choice between Marathon and Halo, I don't think you are going to find a ton of people opting for Marathon. There are definite arguments for gameplay over graphics with games like Guitar Hero. That's fun on the Wii without l33t gfx. But can you imagine the same game fun with Super Nintendo sound and rendering capability?

No, graphics isn't everything, but it is a definite part of the experience. And since the medium is interactive, it ages far less gracefully then passive entertainment.

I'm sick for this PR bullshit.

If Gundam Musou can be ported to PS2 as the most definitive version, why not Disgaea 3???

I'm not convinced.

Yeah,

I laughed fucking hard. Until I see this game in motion, I truly doubt this game couldn't be done on the Ps2.

Here's the trailer. I'm sorry, I really see no difference from this game and it's ps2 predecessors.

Go watch. :)

That said, having watched the trailer, I'm just not seeing it. I can't see anything that couldn't have been done on the PS2, unless it's something to do with the sheer number of sprites on screen at some point in the game or there's some amazingly advanced AI.

Haha, just a little bit late I see. Well, my link's slightly better quality? It still doesn't look like something the PS2 couldn't do.

I'll give you the answer as called for by Occam's Razor:

they want you to ditch your PS2 and buy a PS3. this is the 3rd installment to a popular series--why would they release it for a last-gen console?? the price of the PS3 is dropping and hey!, it plays BluRay discs.

I'm surprised that there's not subliminal text in their announcement that says "buy a ps3"...

of course, they can't come right out and say that so thus, their excuse of lack of processing power, etc etc...

"How important are graphics in the scheme of game design?"

Depends what you're talking about. Screen resolution and shaders and 3D crap mean almost nothing. Art on the other hand is very, very important.

That's why SFIV looks like horse shit, and SFIII looks awesome.

Disgaea kicks ass. People will buy this regardless of what it looks like. If you don't then GTFO and go play Final Fantasy X and claim FFT wasn't a good game.

Um... Anyone remember Odin Sphere? I'm thinking that was a bit more intensive than Disgaea 3 looks to be.

Are there any videos of this game in motion? It's completely possible that not only is the animation loads better, but that the visuals actually end up looking pretty slick in hi-def.

Also, uncompressed audio! OMFG.

If you have never played a Disgaea title or any other NI title, you have no right to critise on graphics alone. Any game that can eat up over 600! hours of a gamers life is worth its wait in gold. a true triumph of gameplay over graphics anyday... heres looking forward to D3 and even D4...
