Independent developer Tiki Games has announced a refreshing return to good old-fashioned xenophobia in Novastrike, a top-down arcade shooter that dispenses with all the diplomatic, lovey-dovey pleasantries we've recently exhibited towards extra-terrestrials. Scheduled to arrive on the PlayStation Network during 2008's second quarter, Novastrike will have you annihilating aliens (the "Draelus," in this round) across seven "expansive challenging stages." As you might expect, you'll be able to terminate the intergalactic immigrants with the aid of upgradeable weaponry and a host of friendly fighters, bombers and useful-sounding destroyers.
Considering the glut of omni-directional shooters currently clouding our digitally distributed sky, we hope Novastrike can at least match the genre's top dogfighters. Make it like that one with the colorful shapes, or the one with the asteroids, please.
SONY PLEASE BRING BACK SOME MORE OVERHEAD SHOOTERS!!
And while your at it, please bring back the arcade classics!! QBert and Mortal Kombat2 weren't enough. I need to get my Pac-Man freak on.
And Nintendo while your at it....how about releasing an arcade perfect Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr....the NES version of DK was nice, but I want the real deal, without having to go to some shady ROM site. I would easily pay $5 for an arcade perfect version.
Sorry, still loving Stardust over here. Very casual shooter that I enjoy relaxing with. Anyway, you've got the bullet-hell that is Castle Shikigami 3 on the way.
I think it looks ok, not spectacular, but ok. I totally agree that the sound effects need to be stepped up a lot. If this thing was shaking my floor with explosions, it would be a whole different ballgame. Too many games skimp on the sound, and are worse off for it, and improving the sound is both easy and cheap.

It looks kinda cool but that shooting sound is annoying. Sounds like a cheap ass toy machine gun.

looks like a giant confusing clusterfuck

Looks awesome, but I don't see any mention of co-op. A game like this with no multiplayer is a waste.

Looks like Warhawk in 2D :)
Pretty cool.

I do miss the days of top down shooters. SuperStar Dust and Blast Factor were ok, but I miss a good top down shooter.

YOU'RE okay.

You got your next gen water ripples in my PS2 game!
Looks boring. I'll keep playing Super Stardust until Castle Shikigami 3 hits the Wii (!)

Why are there so many of these games? Try making something innovative for a change. I don't understand how people can keep sucking this crap up.
almo2001 @ Jun 7th 2008 7:45PM
If it's fun, I don't care how innovative it is.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Mar 11th 2008 7:43PM
It looked incredibly repetitive, and the video didn't manage to demonstrate the addictiveness factor old-school games tend to have.

planes are too small...reminds me of Crimsonland. If they can't get something to stuff the screen, they should make it look bigger.
Or maybe make a scrolling one...in this genre PSN already have Stardust HD and Everyday Shooter which are very difficult to compete with.

Look good to me. Keep up the good work Tiki.
