Voice chat would be much better if they got rid of anyone male and under the age of 25.

I don't think voice chat is a bad thing as long as you have the option to mute.

Because there are some foul-mouthed teenagers out there.

Look, anyone who says that voice chat doesn't matter is freaking kidding themselves.

There's no point in playing online with friends (that means RL friends, and people that you've met online and continue to play with) if you can't talk to them while you're doing it. If you can't call bulls*** when you lose. If you can't jokingly taunt them when you win. If you can't give your "ooooooooohs" and "ahhhhhhhhhhs" when something crazy happens. And if you can't laugh when something funny happens or something in the game spurs a joke.

Voice chat in online games has pretty much single handidly kept me in touch with my old college friends. I'm a 25 year old married dude so I think it should be pretty obvious that I don't call my old friends "just to talk". Voice chat has pretty much kept me in touch with these old friends and any that don't play video games I barely ever talk to, whereas to those that do at midnight after the wife goes to sleep it feels like we're all back in that college dorm room drinking beer and having a good time playing videogames just like it was before we got all these damn real life responsibilities.

For many, voice chat and the ease of which it occurs on XBL and PSN has been the most important evolution in gaming since we started playing 20 years ago.

Most of us that care have thought of this "we'll just turn on our xbox's/PS3's" solution prior to any posts here, and it's a pain in the ass but we will continue to do it because SSBB is just that good of a game. But with this in mind all those 3rd party Wii developers should stop wondering why games are moving at a so much higher attach rate on other consoles (especially 3rd party games), because going through these damned workarounds isn't worth it for anything short of an absolute AAA title.

I'm glad Nintendo put online play in SSBB at all, don't get me wrong. It would've just been nice if they would've supported voice chat even if it was only with people you put friend codes in for.

Ah see me, I live near my college and university friends so I don't put any interest in voice chat.

And as I said earlier about TF2. Voice command menus get across what you need to say, plus doesn't Brawl have a taunt button?

You sound like one of the people I'd mute instantly on any game.

Wow, and you sound like an absolute tool box. Sounds like someone you'd mute instantly? Because voice chat is a good way to keep in touch with old friends? Aw shucks I guess not everyone is just like you.

The Smash Bros taunt button!? Like that's any substitute. Voice chat over games is one of the only ways I've kept in touch with my cousin who moved to TX.

Ah see me, reading your posts in the thread, you seem like a pompous ass that most would likely want to mute anywhere they go.

Very well said. I am also married and enjoy gaming with a lot of my close and personal friends, and through voice chat its good ole' times again. Talking smack or giving props. Or the occasional "Ohhhhhhhhhhhh Sh#%" after a headshot or whatever.

[+]1 heart thingy :)

Mills and Boom just shut it up please.

That's the other thing I don't like about voice chat, it leads to trash talk, which i abhor

I mean, i like online chat to just shoot the breeze, like between some mission or other in an MMO, but trash talk rubs me the wrong way

This brings back horrible memories of calling up my friends on the phone whilst playing online games.

And seriously...Friend Codes? URRRG!

I think Nintendo's strategy is to make online such a painful experience that nobody wants it anymore so that when they roll out the Wii 2 with no online capabilities, they can say that they are "Bringing gaming back to basics" and people will rejoice. Cause thats what people usually do whenever Nintendo does something ass backwards.

This coming from a Nintendo fan.

Voice chat is only good when playing with people you know, i.e. friends. Otherwise, voice chat = 13 yr. olds overloading microphones with obscenities and obnoxious smack talk.

Back On topic: It sucks not having voice chat. I know not everyone uses it but its become a standard. For now, I'm phone conferencing. *shudders*

At first Fenix when I was just blazing through posts and skimming them I thought you were making an analogy about how things are better with butter. Maybe I'm dyslexic. However butter serves as a fine metaphor here.

Agreed, the game doesn't need it to be fun, but man, it'd be nice. Needs more butter.

Better with butter, FTW!

I was saying boo-urns. Quick make excuses? Riiight, gosh I've certainly never known Xboxlive to ever, ever have any issues. Halo 3 launch? Hmmmm... Seems to me nobody could really get on for awhile because that launch crashed the damn thing.

Mr. ESC, I sure voted you down on your previous remark. "Just look at Halo for godssakes?" You can turn voice off, yknow, if you want. I'm sure had they wanted to, they could've made it customizable enough to tailor it to the way people want it. It's not an all or nothing proposition. You sound like an alarmist that voice chat will ruin everything, and that's kind of silly in my opinion.

Instead of a Skype conference call, another option is to create a private Skypecast so that multiple strangers can voice chat (don't need to be in your Skype contact list). WaggleZone has a feature where you can send a play invite to someone to play Smash Bros. (or any Wi-Fi game) and you can include a link to the Skypecast so everyone can voice chat.

I don't get how someone is happy that voice chat's not in the game. Why take options away from a game? Like, why does Basic Brawl HAVE to be a 2 minute standard thing? It's dumb to limit what can be done in a game that prides itself on the customization of it all.

I like voice chat to talk to my friends and with people who aren't idiots. The Brawl community as a whole could be many times larger than it will be down the road if it had built-in features that were community based.

Nintendo's gimped a classic with their dated philosophy, and unless their act changes, it's going to really hurt them next generation.

As much as I like Brawl, I really hate that when it comes to playing online they boldly say 'Play the game we want you to play'.

Voice chat is only necessary for games that require teamwork. Smash Bros does not. I don't need to hear any 15 year old call me a f*ggot or a 35 year old call me a n*gger.

And if you really want it with friends, you've already got to go through some extra steps to make sure you are all online at the same time to play, so what's one more?

Nintendo was smart to leave voice chat out. Brawl is a kids' game at it's core (though most players would not like to admit that), and Nintendo has always created a kid-friendly environment with their first-party titles. Adding voice chat into this game would be contrary to that policy and would keep many kids from being allowed to play the game by their parents. There are plenty of parents who allow their kids to use games with voice chat, but there are many who do not as well. There are plenty of third part programs that the more "serious" gamers can use to talk to one another.

To be brutally honest, voice chat is not at all necessary for a fighting game, there's hardly vast amounts of team work involved.

i just wish the thing would stay online all the time instead of just when i log into the WiFi connection. that way i could know if it was worth me going to the WiFi connection since i would already know who was on there (comparing it to Live and PSN alerts).

their online is seriously an entire generation behind. i mean Xbox has been the online console leader since its inception (more than likely the reason its a success at all) and Playstation has made strides to offer something similar to Live. Nintendo and the Wii have done next to nothing. they have WiiConnect24 which is on all the time, and i constantly get flashing blue lights while im playing but it does me no good cause i cant get to it with out quiting the game.

.....and after proof reading my comment, i realize the irony of that last sentence and how it completely contradicts my Playstation argument lol.

Has anyone noticed nintendo always make hardcore games dressed up as kiddie games? Take a look at MKDD. That is hardcore. It would be like taking gears of war and replacing one side with koopas and the other side with toads and mario, luigi, etc...

It's that Nintendo wants to keep the older generation while still attracting little kids with colors.

The old cover for brawl was just the logo. They then added FRICKIN MARIO AND PIKACHU RUNNING OMG WTF BBQ!! and you see a cute puffball named kirby, but link is in the front. Everyone remembers link, so it's like Keeping the old fans and creating a new generation of fans.
