I'm going to see Iron Man and avoiding GTA. Do I skew the data?

Actually, I own a 360. I have access to a Wii, but I primarily play the 360.

So...yeah.

I don't see the same happening just for the fact that when Halo 3 came out there weren't huge films to compete with it. Unless gamers decided that No Country for Old Men, Michael Clayton and American Gangster is truly something they had to stop playing Halo 3 to see then Iron Man has nothing to worry about when it comes to video game releases trying to take its box office away.

No Country for Old Men... How the fork did that win Oscars?! It was like watching turd being projected onto a screen for 2 hours!
Anyway, I'll probably still be on Condemned 2 or RS Vegas 2 to care about GTA, or for that matter, IronMan.

So...we go to the movies, to see a 12 rated film, about a man who decides to create a robitic suit and save the world?

Over GTA?

Hmm, such choice, such choice...

I dunno why, but the Iron man pick just seems more exciting....then I woke up from my terrible nightmare and realised GTA4 would provide me with way more entertainment.

After seeing Hulk, Punisher, Dare Devil and Spiderman 3, I doubt I will ever watch a Marvel movie at the cinema again.

Had this been Batman, I would have possibly gone to watch it, take the gf out, go chill and watch a movie, get the game the next day or something. But its not, oh well.

Are you kidding me, an alcoholic genius/womanizer/billionaire who wears a flying suit that launches tank-destroying missiles on some Black Sabbath music played by an alcoholic coked out/genius/actor? I wouldn't miss that for anything in the world.

And for those who don't know Iron Man... I mean come on, he's been one of the main character of Marvel for years, founding member of the Avengers (Spider-Man, Cap. America, Ant Man, The Hulk and I'm probably forgetting a few others).

And I know a trailer doesn't make a movie but still, this has to be one of the greatest trailers I've seen in years (I admit that the trailer for S-M3 looked great and that the movie sucked but still).

I'll see Ironman opening night. They're on GTA IV already? Did GTA II just come out?

I wont be buying into either unless the reviews that come out a week or two before release say that they're any good. I am going to err on the side that both will be fantastic hits, and I'll be dumping my money into both.

Wait its GTA4's fault? I would have thought that it was the 7-9 dollars to see the movie and the 3+ dollars per gallon of gas would have more of an effect. Guess a video game does more to economics then was ever thought possible.
What's next, video games reason for failing housing market?

Or perhaps it was simply that Halo 3 was released during a week when there was nothing but absolutely crud at the theaters. Ah, yes, Mr. Woodcock was an instant classic, sure to drive people to theaters.....

Wow, I can't believe so few people care about Iron Man. I especially can't believe people dissing Robert Downey Jr.'s acting skills.

Holy shit.

Internet, you never fail to disappoint me.

For real. I don't understand how he could *not* knock the role of a rich, handsome playboy with a super dark side and penchant for booze, completely out of the park. Plus, Favreau (though looking like a potato these days) hasn't made a *bad* movie to date. Double plus, JEFF GODDAMN BRIDGES! C'mon!

I think both Iron Man and GTA4 will be awesome and will be checking both of them out. When the movie industry blamed "The Halo Effect" for poor turnouts, the movies that week seemed to be especially shitty and since, obviously, the movie industry never does anything half-assed, it *had* to have been Halo's fault.

Um, yeah, you don't really have to worry about Iron Man. It'll probably do fine. And if it doesn't, it won't be because of a video game.

I'm not buying GTA IV until mid June when my super important exams are over, in case I get addicted during revision. So, Iron Man it is.

Bah, this story is BS. Ppl will just do both. IRON MAN is highly anticipated. The Halo 3 weekend they're comparing it to wasn't really an important movie weekend. Personally, I'm sure we all can find about 3 hours in that weekend to go see IRON MAN. I mean really!

I'll skip GT4 until it's cheaper. Gotta save some cash for Calibur and Ninja Gaiden. But I can spare the money to take a trip to the ol' cinema.

Absurd. First of all, the films released the weeks before and the weeks after Halo 3 came out were crap and the Box Office figures had nothing to do with gamers lack of interest. Heartbreak Kid was hardly something gamers were dying to see. You think the lack of butts in the seats for Elizabeth The Golden Age had anyting to do with Halo? Please. The gaming and geek community is small and hardly enough to affect any B.O. take as was proven by the poor performance of the geekgasm flick Snakes on a Plane.

Iron Man will be a smash hit and any performance good or bad will have nothing at all to do with GTA IV. How is this "analyst" still able to be employed?

Yeah and the load of crap of movies playing when Halo 3 released didn't have anything to do with it. Honestly Iron Man is going to draw alot of current and former comic readers just like when Spider man first released.
