Just as every cloud has a silver lining, every drop in stock value hides within it an opportunity for profit. At least that's what the Wall Street Journal seems to be saying with an article that argues the precipitous 26% drop in Sony stock this year could actually be an opportunity for bargain hunters. The Journal was heartened by the Sony video game unit's quarterly profit over the holidays -- its first in two years -- and sees increasing demand for the PS3 as a good reason to buy low in anticipation of selling high. Sony itself predicts sales of 9.5 million PS3s this year, and the Journal cites analysts predicting a whopping 14 million systems sold in '09. Pretty optimistic, considering the company only moved 3.6 million units in 2007, but with things looking up for the troubled system, it could happen.

Then again, I'm not sure I disagree. Sony hasn't shot themselves in a limb in quite some time.

Yes Kamall, the 8.5 mil is WW sales. Which is almost a million MORE than that Joystiq loved uber successful Xbox 360.
Think about that 8.5 mil systems with NONE of the big hitting software that Sony is known for, a format War, a more expensive pricetag and Sony STILL outsells the only other CURRENT gen hardware out there.
So boys and girls....what do you think will happen when Sony's BIG guns start shooting AND the fact that the format War is over?
I am predicting 15mil+ WorldWide PS3 sales this year. Take that Mike.
They just do it to have some fun looking at the comments section when the staff is bored. Not like anyone here cares about Sony or PS3 (nor Capcom)

Well, somebody must have been following the rules, because he's just been so damned polite recently. Remember folks:
1. Keep Fernando Out of Daylight
2. Never Get Fernando Wet
3. And Never, ever, feed Ferndando after midnight
Fernando: Crazy match yesterday with Pit vs. Pit. Just wanted to tell you, good game. Friend me on Live: ACL Terror (with the space).
Oh, and xbox sucks and wii swallows...BOO-YAH!

Fernando, you said you liked and owned a PS1 and PS2 right? Same here and I acknowledge the many faults with the PS3, but still, no need to act like Sony killed your family and burned down your house right?
I would really like to get a PS3 but then see all the worse ports on it and 360 having the better ports and exclusive games. Too bad it has no built in Wifi and the hardware problems.
Since I've been with PS1/PS2/PSP, its hard to tear away and go to a new brand.
patience my son. The Playstation brand kicks into high gear during its SECOND full year at retail. The PSone the PS2 did just that. The PS3 will be no different, all you have to do is to see all of the killer software due this year.
No amount of Joystiq flame baiting can change that and mark my words they will be singing the PS3's praises by the end of the year and everyone will conveniently "forget" all of the negativity surrounding the PS3 just as they did with the PS2.

This fiscal year, they have huge exclusives being released on the back of winning the hi-def format war.
I have a feeling they'll sell a tad more than 6 million units, don't you?
on the smell of his own farts.
FYI
The PS3 sold about 8.5 million PS3's in 2007 which is MORE than the 360 sold. Why do you bother posting this blatant flame baiting Krap? I am sure you meant 3.6 was for the North American continent only but somehow curiously fail to mention the Sony prediction is for WORLD WIDE SALES, as is the WSJ 14 million.
Just give it up already.
Dont you know that bashing the PS3 is SOOOOOO 2007?

You guys are so lame.

An end of the bash Sony FAD is coming and the Playstation brand will come out stronger than ever.
Xbox and Wii fanboys are fucking perfect, if they whine, they have perfect reason to. If a 360 fanboy's console breaks down and he cries, its okay. If a Wii fanboy complains his console doesn't have enough games, its okay.
If a PS3 owner complains of the same, he's a emo whiny little bitch.
Oh the damn hypocrisy kills me. : /
Says the bitter heckler posting on a video game blog that owns all three current systems, a Dreamcast, and God knows what other badge of nerd-dom.
I'm really feeling the burn dude.
360 has Gears 2 as a system seller, and Wii still has Wii fit and Smash Bros, for the other territories.

Even if my console of choice doesn't become the console with the most sales, it doesn't affect how much I will enjoy it.
Metal Gear, GT5, and Little Big Planet are going to be huge sellers this year. Sony is even packaging MG into the F'n 80gb bundle come june. THAT is going to sell systems. The game is hyped as a mofo. Gears 2? I have a 360 (and wii) and gears game sorta f'n sucks. i dont get the hype to that game. F GEARS. I will probably want to sell my 360 come years end if PS3 succeeds in pulling its head out of its ass.

Same with the new Twisted Metal Game. FF13 is iffy. I think 13 will make this year with Vs following next year.
