Um, Microsoft just confirmed they're going to make a Blu Ray attachment. They're denying they're going to make a 360 with a Blu-Ray drive installed in the console itself.

They are being very specific in saying integrate, there is no mention of the words "add-on" which is probably what they are going to do considering their stance on consumer choice.

@Jonah -- Where's that conformation? I only saw rumors, and then this interview with Reuters saying "no blu-ray for XBox."

This is a pretty shitty move, though. One one hand, I'm glad they're putting the speculation to rest and now we can consider getting a stand-alone player (or *gasp* a PS3), but on the other hand I'm not sure why MS would want to shoot themselves in the foot by making this statement, all but solidifying the decisions of many (my friends included) as to what game console they're going to get.

Unfortunetly if the 360 never comes with a BluRay drive I think it may hurt sales.. Ignorant gamers who go to the store undecided and look at the 360 and the PS3, I'm afraid they're going to go with what they think is the better value. They'd be wrong but that's why ignorant people keep buying PS3's, they don't realize there are next to no decent games and end up buying BluRay movies to fill their empty, meaningless lives.

I wont ever consider buying a ps3.I wont buy bluray either. The fact is our 360's can stream high definition content from our pc's for free. Why pay for these players or a ps3 which is a waste of space and a shitty game machine as well.I can download bluray rips hddvd rips.I can also upconvert my entire dvd collection on my 360.

The whole bluray thing is a huge fars.I owned a hddvd player my cousin owns a bluray player.I have a 52" hdtv and the diffrence doesnt get me hyped between upconvert and true hd films.

If people were smart and wanted to save a buck they would just download and stream. With the money i spend on a twenty five dollar movie i could get the movie free and get chinese food or pizza.

Your hard drive is like a digital movie menu system and it doesnt require shelfspace filled with ugly dvd/bluray cases. Also if you get sick of the movie delete it and you dont lose a dime. And when the format goes byebye no regrets.

The quote:

"Xbox is not currently in talks with Sony or the Blu-ray Association to integrate Blu-ray into the Xbox experience"

Not 'integrated into the Xbox', but into the entire business. Therefore, according to Greenberg, the 360 will not see Blu-Ray on the 360 - integrated or addon.

Bad move. Very bad move, considering the support for HD-DVD. You want to keep PS3s out of people's homes; people are buying PS3s specifically for that!

Even if they make an add on its not gonna change.Whats more apealling to idiots that buy bluray.Built in player or having to buy a console and then buying the player seperatly. The average consumer isnt aware of what happens when you watch movies on your game drive.

The ps3 can keep bluray its a nonfactor in gaming.Remember one thing go to vgchartz and look at SOFTWARE sales.

The 360 and wii outsell ps3 software by huge margins. Not becuase theres more of them in homes but becuase people are buying ps3's as movie players.

If you play GAMES the 360 is the console to own.If you watch movies you have a variety of choices.I can get my high def movies elsewhere but halo3 and the rest of the elite 360 exclusives are only on 360.

Its a gaming machine plain and simple. Why dont people understand that? You can also stream hd movies FOR FREE FREE FREE FREE!!!!!!!

too bad halo is fuckin gay. i love my ps3 and my 360, i'm a huge movie fan, most of the games on 360 i won't play anyways cuz they suck (2 worlds, halo[any], fatal inertia, etc etc), i have never owned more than 10 360 games at a time, i trade them in and get ones i know i'm gonna enjoy now. so what if the ps3 is behind, we all knew that since it came out about a year after the 360, the machine is a beast and has more options that suit me, streaming movies, dvd player, high def blu ray player if i decide i want this one movie really bad in high def(transformers or 300), plus i bought the 60 gb specifically for bc, i love my ps2 and ps1 games, i have xbox games i can't even fuckin play cuz they quit doin bc to do "xbox originals" yes lets all pay 20 bucks for a game that takes up 4 gb or more of our hard drives only to delete it in the future, stupid, i like having a case and disc, something concrete i can keep till i feel like getting rid of it. i like collecting the old games like silent hill and resident evil.

So really this is exactly the same thing that happened with HD-DVD... The blog'o'sphere kept floating rumors of a 360 with built in HD-DVD and microsoft said it wasn't going to happen, and then it never happened.

The simple fact of the matter is, Blu-ray is failing to catch on. A visit to Blockbuster proves this... This week have more copies of Hitman on DVD than they have all Blu-ray titles combined(and Hitman on Blu-ray is not checked out). The only Blu-ray player that is selling in any quantity at all is the PS3 and a consumer would be ill advised to buy any other BD player.

Add on Comcast, now rolling out their 100Mb service and Verizon seems to be ramping up their Fiber to the House service and in a years time there will be more than enough bandwidth to serve HD movies on demand over the internet...

And that certainly seems to be where the excietement is now days... Downloads... Even my mom is wondering when she will be able to just download a movie and watch it.

you KNOW they're gonna make an add-on. We know it won't play games, Microsoft needs to make back some of that money they wasted investing in the HD-DVD. Nice try now it's time to get the consumers what they want. We won't be playing games on the Blu-Ray drive, we already get that, the HDDVD drive didn't, why would this one? Just to keep the 360 owners loyal, which is a good move, otherwise if they want high def movies which a lot of ppl do and don't like just having a downloaded copy, then they may go ps3 and this would be bad for Microsoft, everyone sees Sony coming back to win it this year and i can see it.

hmm Like sony when you pay 70 for a game and they throw manditory installs as high as 4gb just to speed up load times.

4gb of space gone.Sure you could delete it.But when you wanna play it again including online its a 20 min reinstall.

Dont get me started fanboy as far as bluray swing over to the piratebay they got plenty of bluray rips at around 15gb and with my 20mbps download it takes about an average of 4 hours and 30 dollars remains in my pocket.

what to do with that extra thirty maybe buy some quality 360 games seeing as it the only console with quality games.

"Integration to the Xbox experience" to me sounds like add-on or inside the xbox. I think that is what they are saying, is that there actually wont be ably BR anything for the 360, at least at this point in time. For supporting HD-DVD for so long and Sony being their main competitor, I am not that surprised that they are denying that they would be doing anything. And they probably wont be. I think though that this really may hurt the sales in the long run but... maybe they'll do something for BR later on down the road.

Obviously everyone can interpret it a different way, and thats what Microsoft wants. So no one knows exactly what they are saying, so they could change it later on down the road. Protection of a sort for them.

These are the comments that absolutely confuse me. So MANY games are on the PS3 as well as the 360. You act like the PS3 has nothing over there. If you forgot,PS3 also has Burnout Paradise,Orange Box,Call of Duty 4, Rock Band,Guitar Hero,GTA4,Army of Two,Condemned 2,Lost Planet,Devil May Cry 4 and I could keep going. Not to mention the big name exclusives that are coming out this year. I'm not a PS3 fanboy,I own all 3 systems, but some of you blind Xbox fanboys REALLY need to open your eyes up.

So how do people owning a PS3 have no games again? Oh,right.....they don't.

mgs on xbox vs ninja gaiden on xbox which was better
Killzone on ps2 vs fable on xbox which was a better game?

Gears of war on 360 vs any of the mgs series?

The 360 titles are far better titles this year period.

Its simple the kid with the honda can scream his car is the fastest 4 cylinder out there.

The xbox is a fucking lambo when titles come into play that simple.

honda vs lambo?

its that simple.

I don't think i know anyone who installs their games onto their hard drive for a few less seconds of load times, it's never been required. and $70? isn't Microsoft charging the same for a brand new game? i think so. Now that the ps3 has gone down in price sales have sky rocketed in comparison to what they were at the price of $500 or $600. And you said earlier you bought an HDDVD drive and your brother had the blu-ray, so you MUST have been buying hd movies to play on it otherwise what's the point? HDdvd was about a $5 or less difference from blu ray. I have only bought 2 BluRay movies since i've had my ps3 and i've had it since August of 2007, i prefer dvd while hd stuff is still as expensive as it is. And i'm a fanboy because i enjoy my ps3 more than my 360? sure if that's how you define fanboy, i'm not in love with either system, i enjoy them both, 360 for more games and most of my friends have a 360 over a ps3. Every game i own on my ps3 is an exclusive besides Unreal Tournament 3 but i don't play pc games, and it hasnt come out on the 360 yet, if they decide to make it. A ps3 for the dvd upconvert which isn't required and i like the exclusives coming are for it and the blu ray seemed like a better deal than buying a separate drive like the 360 had. I'm a huge movie buff so i prefer having that disc and case, i collect movies. The ps3 may have hit a few bumps along the way but it's slowly working it's way back. And most of the games worth buying on the 360 are also on the ps3, some ports have sucked(hell, most) and others haven't. I'm sure it was oh so hard for the 360 to gain the lead being that it had no competitors for a full year, ass. So quit being a dick, we're all friends in the gaming community, i wouldn't get rid of my ps3, but if i get one more RROD i'm done with microsoft.

integrate, yes they wont put it in. but it also says experience which means none at all. it also says "xbox is not currently in the talks" with sony or the bluray association

and the title of this article also says "Microsoft denies 360 Blu-ray attachment" so no those statements rule out any possibility of blray as of now.

there still may be a possibility to add bluray to the xbox in the future when production costs lower.

I gotta laugh there mikey i really do.When i bought my 360 pro it came with a 20gb drive.Of course there were demos and such i deleted and the space went up.In the end you get about 16gb.Now lets talk common sense.

Lets say i walk into a store and my main fus about a new game console purchase is actually hard drive space.

I see a 360 elite at 450.
I see a ps3 40gb at 400 and a 80gb at 500.

Whos giving me more hdd for my money?

Couple that with better exclusive titles.Better online experience. The xmb thats been on the console since launch.XMA Creators club allowing me to develop or try out newly developed independent games if i choose. And a included hdmi cable and headset.

Whats the better deal?

In what way does wireless make you gaming experience any better? It doesnt it actually makes you suffer.

Bluray has not shown any true potential for gaming yet other than allowing developers to be lazy and toss uncompressed data and then forcing installs to make load times faster due to the first rate bluray drives shitty speed.

Mike you need to crawl your beatn ass back to piece of shit fanboy or wherever it is you came from
