LS2/LS7, The Xbox 360 Premium system launched November 2005 for $399. Today it costs $349. It's been well over 2 years and you feel another price drop would be a sign of weakness?

A sign of weakness is when your $599 drops to $399 in just 10 months.

@KillJebus, have you actually ever even used a 360 controller? The layout is EXACTLY the same aside from the switched thumbstick/d-pad.

My friend tried finding a 360 at Costco and can't find any. We found one yesterday at Gamestop and picked one up. The manufacture date on it was Feb 1st, 2008. That's pretty fresh from China so it doesn't seem like they have old stock at all at Gamestop.

There were rumors that Microsoft was going to officially unveil an integrated HD-DVD version of 360 at GDC. If they expected to drop ship a week later, or had retooled their lines for that device, all the sudden they had a factory full of units that weren't going to market without reman to contain only a DVD drive when Warner turned coat on HD-DVD (appearances are that the HD-DVD group EXPECTED that Warner would go exclusive to THEM, making for a nice one-two punch).

Very weird scenario in any case.

This is an intriguing conspiracy theory, but I don't believe it's true. With the internet, camera phones, etc, this would have ultimately leaked out from the factory in China. Just like the pictures of the Elite that leaked out from the factory. I just can't believe they could have hid this completely, then buried it so successfully.

If so, they'll have to make some room in that landfill where all the E.T. 2600 cartridges are buried. ;-)

This only makes sense if you think MS was about to put an HD-DVD drive into the 360, which is exceedingly unlikely for all the reasons enumerated a million times.

MS would rather you download your movies, and the fact that so many 360s were made without HD-DVD means no game can take advantage of it.

Bullshit, stores are full of 360s

This is just a lame excuse for Microft getting owned again against the PS3.

Yeah, they are now. Not a month ago. The only reason PS3 is selling more is because Blu Ray won the format war and the lowest priced standalone player is $399. You'd be a moron to fork out $400 for a standalone player when the player that also plays video games is the same price. Like I've been saying, let's just watch the software sales. For some reason I usually have to scroll through about the top 20, which consists of Wii and 360 titles before I finally come across a PS3 game near the bottom.

A new friend of mine has a PS3, so I actually recently got one as well (first Sony home console that I've owned). I bought a 20 gigger off ebay for $400 shipped with two controllers and a couple games, which seemed reasonable. I watched Resident Evil but I have yet to play any games on it. I'll probably borrow Assassin's Creed from her though.

There are a dozen 360's at Fry's in the valley and I counted 8 of them at BB in West L.A.

FWIW there were also lots of PS3's on the shelf. No Wii's at either location. If the PS3 is outselling the 360 it's because people want one more than they want a 360, NOT because of some bogus "shortage". I think the only thing Microsoft currently has a shortage of is plausible excuses for falling to 3rd place in console sales...

There are plenty of 360's and ps3's at the game stop in my location. No Nintendo Wii's though.

All through Janurary and through Feburary I couldn't find an Xbox, just the arcade and even that was 2-6 at most. It wasn't until maybe a few weeks ago, I started seeing the Premium and Elite back in stock. So I wouldn't say it's all bogus, but it might be affected by who lives where and where shipments were sent from manufacturing.
