UT3, Stranglehold sell more than a million worldwide
It's silver lining time. Midway Games, which misplaced nearly $100 million in 2007, has announced that despite leaking money like a rusty sieve, two of its most prominent releases last year, Unreal Tournament 3 and Stranglehold, each managed to sell through more than a million units globally.
The announcement was made by company CEO David Zucker during a recent conference call, and while sales were not broken down across platform or region, the executive did note that "European PC sales of Unreal Tournament 3 are outpacing North America." Still, we'd encourage Midway not to call out the cheerleaders just yet. There is still that nagging issue of all that missing money.

O....K..... But what does selling 1 million copies worldwide mean when Midway was touting Stranglehold as the most high-budget next-gen ever made? (and theoretically one of the most high-budget games EVER?)
That game had serious issues too. First off, the aspect ratio didn't seem right. It looked like it was stretching 4:3 to 16:9. Second, the sound quality was surprisingly awful.

Can't say I was impressed with it either to be entirely honest. But as long as UT3 sold well, thats fine by me.

UT3, ftw!
Get more mods up, I'm patiently waiting :)

I am actually suprised that UT3 didnt sell more. Its an awesome game and got good reviews, but It just seems like unless your on the 360 or Wii, you dont sell well.
I think UT3 will have legs though, UT's always do. If more great mods keep coming and with the rapidly growing install base of PS3 users, UT3 will probably sell well this year also

well, that's because UT2K4 is a better game, although not as pretty. UT3 gutted Assault Mode, which was big UT favorite, and instead of the lively vibrant colors of UT, it's ugly muddied pallet is very unlike Unreal to many fans. It's just not appealing like it once was. The mod community on PC will eventually take hold and make this game what it was supposed to be, but until now, there are many more playing 2K4 than this.

If Stranglehold sold so well why is it so hard to find people to play with on live?
CPTStewart @ Mar 13th 2008 10:18AM
The game has a singleplayer component you know...
McWeen @ Mar 13th 2008 10:21AM
The single player was really short.

UT3 is damn fun on PS3. That keyboard/mouse option is so crucial and so good.
Andoru @ Mar 13th 2008 10:27AM
If they had released UT3 for the 360 at the same time they would have had no problem reaching a million. Probably could have done it in the first week.

UT1 was still the best.
Phranctoast @ Mar 13th 2008 10:59AM
I prefer 2004. They brought back assualt and had onslaught, which imho is the best MP game mode ever created!!!!!
Shawn @ Mar 13th 2008 3:25PM
I agree Phran, I loved UT99 when it came out although I still preferred Quake, but 2K4 with Assault mode made for many late nights
Yishai08 @ Mar 14th 2008 2:09AM
I like 2004 better too. The Gears of War looking characters weren't welcome for me either.
Yishai08 @ Mar 14th 2008 2:09AM
meh, UT3 feels old to me now. The Modding's ok but it's a hassle to connect to modded games much of the time and no one plays it (PS3 version).
