Follow the progress of the Myst movie
If more game-to-film projects got their start like this, we might end up seeing a few of them. Two filmmakers and Myst nuts, Patrick A. McIntire and Adrian Vanderbosch, set out to make a film based on the game series. Without so much as the rights they began work, eventually winning the endorsement of Cyan Worlds, the company behind the Myst games.
Now, they're trying to get some interest for the project with their production blog and website, which you can poke through to find a few different details and hints about the kind of film they'd like to make. The whole shebang is in the early stages, but just looking at the site and the blog, we're encouraged. Even if it doesn't get off the ground, it seems their hearts are in the right place.

I always loved the books and the Myst universe was always intriguing. I hope this really gets off the ground and gets picked up by a major studio.

Turning the most static, boring game of all time into a movie is genius.

Well, that didn't take long...
Obviously making a movie out of the game itself would be completely retarded... I don't think anyone would argue that watching someone poke and prod their way through puzzles for two hours would be groundbreaking cinema (mind-numbing, yes, but certainly not groundbreaking). However, there *is* a lot more to the Myst franchise than just the games. The characters and civilizations that pop up in the games are fleshed out with far more interest in the three Myst novels, and there's an additional 10,000-year swath of history to build a great movie in without even touching the characters that Myst fans all know and love while still keeping it in the same universe.
Personally, if they're going for making a film adaptation of something already published, I hope they make a movie out of the Book of Ti'ana. Not an action-oriented tale by any means, but it's a very smart story with plenty of interesting characters, settings, and happenstances. Honestly, I think a more intellectual game-to-film crossover would work better than trying to adapt a shooter, which has worked *so well* in the past :P.

I should cut you where you stand.

i'd love for this to be real. MYST was the game that got me started in gaming.
Though i always hoped a movie would be done on one of the 3 novels, not the games because as we all know the games are pretty boring and would suck as a game. But the novels would bring to a pretty decent movie.

that's the difference between someone starting out to make a movie based on a videogame out of love for the videogame vs. a studio saying "this is a really popular game let's cash in on it" and hiring any retard who's never played a videogame before to direct/produce etc....

I don't know if they can top Mega64's adaptation, though.

I can imagine the sheer amount of detail that could go into this film. If I'm not practically forced to rewatch it 10 times just to find all the little gadgets and critters and such, I will be vastly disappointed.
