After a tumultuous history of appeals, appeals, and more appeals, the British High Court has finally lifted the ban on Rockstar's controversial title Manhunt 2. The PS2 and Nintendo Wii versions of the game have been cleared for release in the UK, and will carry an "18" rating.
The Video Appeals Committee has stood its ground regarding the release of the censored version of Manhunt 2, stating that it depicts no greater violence than any other release in Britain bearing an 18 certificate. The British Board of Film Classifications has finally seen the light, so it seems, and recognizes that the title will indeed land on shelves without further interruption.
No word yet on when Manhunt 2 will finally be released in the UK, or if anyone still cares about last year's controversial game.

Yay. Though seeing how one of the most bloodthirstiest nation of all time having a hissy fit about it, I still expect that games with violence are still going to get shafted like its nobody's business.
Thing is, I do not care if you think this game sucks. If it sucks, then let it die in the market place. Just because you think it is a bad game does not mean it should be banned for reflecting violence in the real world.

Yay! Now I can ignore this pile of shit by choice now! I still think the only reason the BBFC banned the lightweight version of this game, is that they saw though Rockstar using them to generate hype, and took a shit on the plan of some smug, marketing twats.

I don't think this has anything to do with the game being crap. This was all about censorship in UK. The game was very tame for an 18 license and should never have been blocked in the first place. BBFC need to balance censorship between film and games.

I hope this kills the pretentious debating about censorship in videogames, or games-as-art nonsense.

You guys say 'yeah, and' but you aren't seeing the big picture. The fact that a game this "violent" got its ban lifted is a victory for gaming and freedom of speech. What if BBFC said no and banned Mass Effect or GTAIV, maybe then you guys wouldn't say 'Yeah, and'.

Yes it was.
If you were at GDC, that was one of the big things they were talking about. Thanks to your rating board, other game studios are shit scared of selling bloody games to the EU market. Seriously.

Meanwhile in germany, the situation continues to be crappy. Just a few weeks ago, the first "Condemned" has been confiscated, which means selling this game - even to adults - is punishable by law.
