Talk of new downloadable content for Burnout Paradise has been burbling around the Criterion Games website. On the forums, creative director Alex Ward has revealed that new cars will be made available as downloadable content in both the Xbox 360 and PS3 version. More exciting, though, is news of the expansion of Paradise City, with the introduction of several islands to the map. Perhaps even more exciting, however, is news that the islands will be offered as a free update to the game.
Details are still scarce at this point, but Alex Ward states that bridges from the main section of Paradise City will lead out to the new islands, each of which will offer "a different type of gameplay." Whether this means that islands will depart from the open-ended style of Paradise, or whether the terrain of each will be suited to certain play styles remains to be seen. The islands themselves will be offered as free, mandatory software updates, while the new cars will be sold via the traditional microtransaction system.

Hopefully the airport that "sunk into the sea" will make an appearance, and I'm all for new modes, online and off.
As for the cars, I probably will buy them. I busted a gut to get all the other cars (%101 complete), so not doing so would make it feel unfinished.

Is the airport in the sea mentioned by Atomica or something?

Yeah it was. Also it was on early maps of Paradise city while the game was being produced.

Platinum!
You've ruined it for me. I loved B:P, but now I just see that movie and realize they stripped out a lot of interesting-looking city area!

Yeah my bad... You can tell they left all the original content in the game because you can still see the islands. I just don't think criterion had enough time to polish it so they pushed it into DLC...

Perhaps you'll need to buy the new card to get to the fun parts of the new islands.

If you watched the video a couple days back of the dune buggy on the new bridge, it appeared there was a new kind of ramp too. If you listen to the podcast, they seem enamored of a type of trick they call the "rodeo". Like a snowboarding rodeo, it includes a twist (roll) and a flip. You can already do these with some difficulty off some jumps in the city.
But the new ramp style seems designed to make doing rodeos about as easy as doing rolls off the roll (half-kicker) ramps.
So that'd be fun too. Of course, fans of the Vegas (big Cadillac) and Mesquite (El Camino) may find the new ramps tough to take full advantage of.

The game you're thinking of is called Super Mario Brothers. It was released by Nintendo some time back. It actually has an alternate ending where you defect a big spiky bear-creature at the end with a magic double-bladed axe.

yes you will.
Burnout is EXTEREMELY different from 'Driving Simulators' like Project Gotham Racing, Forza, and Gran Turismo.
Those require you to upgrade cards, tune them, and drave on that perfect line to be good.
In Burnout, you're just cruising around the city. Oncoming or not...who cares. Each car has 1 'burning route' or a time trial, that can only be done by that car. Each car has its own burning route, and completing these gives you the upgraded version of the car. (A new car, not an upgrade to your old one. Also, each burning route can only be done once, since each car only has one upgraded version)
Also, for races and other events, your free to forge your own path. Since your in a city, I can choose to either go directly through the side roads or head up onto the interstate (which isnt that big, though)
To get new cars, you simply complete events, and after you do a certain amount the car will start cruising around the city. To get the car, you find it while your freeburning (not in an event) and you crash it.
This is VERY different from other racing games. It is definitely my favorite of the burnout series, and my favorite racing game as of yet.

Hopefully he's hinting at new game modes- possibly returning modes from past titles. Would be weird if it was exclusive to the island though... unless each island had it's own exclusive game mode, which would be kind of cool because to "select" the game mode you just go to that area.

Wishful thinking but I want a damn crash mode addon, I would gladly pay some money for it. Hell I think I played crash mode in the other burnouts more then the actual game.

Free DLC will ALWAYS give you brownie points. Hopefully these islands will be a very nice size.

Heck yeah! Free DLC FTW.
Criterion is awesome. I'm only about 50% finished with the game... I REALLY hope they add in two things:
1.) Original style Crash Mode
2.) Split-screen multiplayer
If they did this, not only would the game be more awesome, but I know several people who would immediately buy the game because of it.

i think that burnout is a legend game but i think that they should have put the new stuff in at the begining but the new car looks savage and i had an idea one island should be a army base and when you drive into the base tanks and hummers come after you and one island should be called the burnout island and you have to have a burnout license to get onto the island and thay should make a moter bike as a new vechicle that would be good
