New islands coming to Burnout Paradise as free DLC
Details are still scarce at this point, but Alex Ward states that bridges from the main section of Paradise City will lead out to the new islands, each of which will offer "a different type of gameplay." Whether this means that islands will depart from the open-ended style of Paradise, or whether the terrain of each will be suited to certain play styles remains to be seen. The islands themselves will be offered as free, mandatory software updates, while the new cars will be sold via the traditional microtransaction system.

As for the cars, I probably will buy them. I busted a gut to get all the other cars (%101 complete), so not doing so would make it feel unfinished.

You've ruined it for me. I loved B:P, but now I just see that movie and realize they stripped out a lot of interesting-looking city area!

But the new ramp style seems designed to make doing rodeos about as easy as doing rolls off the roll (half-kicker) ramps.
So that'd be fun too. Of course, fans of the Vegas (big Cadillac) and Mesquite (El Camino) may find the new ramps tough to take full advantage of.

Burnout is EXTEREMELY different from 'Driving Simulators' like Project Gotham Racing, Forza, and Gran Turismo.
Those require you to upgrade cards, tune them, and drave on that perfect line to be good.
In Burnout, you're just cruising around the city. Oncoming or not...who cares. Each car has 1 'burning route' or a time trial, that can only be done by that car. Each car has its own burning route, and completing these gives you the upgraded version of the car. (A new car, not an upgrade to your old one. Also, each burning route can only be done once, since each car only has one upgraded version)
Also, for races and other events, your free to forge your own path. Since your in a city, I can choose to either go directly through the side roads or head up onto the interstate (which isnt that big, though)
To get new cars, you simply complete events, and after you do a certain amount the car will start cruising around the city. To get the car, you find it while your freeburning (not in an event) and you crash it.
This is VERY different from other racing games. It is definitely my favorite of the burnout series, and my favorite racing game as of yet.

Criterion is awesome. I'm only about 50% finished with the game... I REALLY hope they add in two things:
1.) Original style Crash Mode
2.) Split-screen multiplayer
If they did this, not only would the game be more awesome, but I know several people who would immediately buy the game because of it.
