Fuzz have you ever seen Gangs of New York?? Although the story is made up there are some real historical events in it.

Its pretty interesting that boatloads and boatloads of Irish kept coming in and the only reason they were made legal is becuase the US needed soldiers for the war and because of corruptive politicians.

Nobody came here legally ass wipe. Did the Native Americans give them their greencard when they landed you jackass?! STFU you closeminded bastard!

Oh please. Don't give me that native american bullshit. Europe came, they were stronger, and now the "new world" is home to the strongest nation that ever graced this planet. Feel sorry for them all you want, but I think that qualifies as "shit happens" and "survival of the fittest". There weren't any "geneva conventions" then, or a UN.

If you feel so bad about how the Natives were treated, I'm sure you'll be first to give up the land you worked your ass off for so that they can put up a casino on it now and get richer than you'd ever be.

No? Then STFU about ancient history.

Two years ago, we didn't even have gaming stores (like gamestop, etc.), but the recent introduction of stores like Blockbuster's GameRush and Gameplanet have increased the overall sales of the gaming market here in MExico.

The problem with the Mexican economy is that it has not had any good trade policies. Mexico has accumulated a lot of wealth in the recent years because of conservative free trade policies. The reason so many immigrants come to the U.S. for a better life is that Mexico has left behind Agriculture and people from rural areas. Even saying that, I think its Americas own fault for not putting up a fence, not enforcing its own laws, and not legislating a legal way for temporary workers.

Yup, it's mainly due to NAFTA and corn subsidies. It has allowed U.S. corn to become much cheaper for Mexicans to buy than Mexican corn, putting millions of Mexican farmers out of work and looking for jobs that are mostly only available here in the U.S.

If you want to solve the "immigration issue", you have to do something about NAFTA. It's really that simple.

How are gas prices the government's fault?

Maybe if the housing market hadn't gotten so inflated, we wouldn't be crashing as bad as we are now. And then if the fed didn't jump the gun and congress didn't try and protect all the idiots with bad credit getting over their head, the market would have normalized by now, and inflation wouldn't be through the roof.

One man's tragedy (forclosure) is another man's opportunity (new home owner).

Crono,

I suppose you think that it's just a crazy coincidence that we have oil men in the Whitehouse and Big Oil is raking in record windfall profits while prices are soaring... boy do I have a copy of Duke Nukem Forever to sell you.

@ Crono:

What the hell are you talking about. Everyone knows that in this world we live in big political suits are the ones that control all the money from oil. In my country, Dominican Republic, our gas prices are soaring because they are taxing the shit out of it. They do this to compensate from all the money that is stolen on a daily bases from political corruption. It is also higher because the Shell Co. has a monopoly here in the distribution of oil. We currently pay the equivalent in dollars of $5.30 the gallon. It would be even higher if the venezuela president woulldn't be kind enough to provide it some what cheap to us.

Wow...It's funny how sometimes even Mexicans can be misinformed. Almost all of you are talking about the North Cities. Nuevo Laredo, Monterrey, Juarez etc, etc. And Mexico isn't on the rise! C'mon, take a look around! Wake up and smell de effin roses dudes! Prices are soaring, Interests are going up, Inflation, and not to mention the tax increase Calderon (Mexican version of Dubya) is going to force upon me and my family...

We have Cartel Problems, Corruption Issues, and the army has been aoutside its barracks for 6 months or so.. We have two MAJOR guerrillas, EZNL and EPR...

And if U.S falls into recesion, Mexico will follow right along.

Anyhoo...it actually is a beautifull, rich, cosmopolitan country. Personally I don't care much for the North Provinces, I think they're bland and not too interesting.
You should check out some pictures of Chiapas, Guadalajara, Puebla, Queretaro, Guanajuato...man, now those are cities. And the women, well, come and have a look for yourself :).Mexico City (The Biggest city in the world!) http://www.viajeros.com/modules.php?name=Diarios&op=mostrar_diario&did=2335&foto_grande=normal_mexico_ciudad-de-mexico_2335_9.jpg&history_back=-1&pid=8655

Also Oaxaca, and I wouldn't say Mexican people who chimed in are misinformed, they are just stating what should be the obvious but due to stereotypes and general ignorance is often overlooked. People don't see the other side of the Mexican community, either living in the US or in Mexico itself. I grew up liking electronic music in Mexico and often times went to clubs or raves, I don't have dark skin, I definitely don't wear a sombrero, and videogames as well as technology have been my passions since I can remember. So I don't fit the stereotype and I'm glad the industry is starting to aknowledge and understand that many of us are spending over 1000 dollars a year on videogames, which by the way I enjoy more when they have spanish voice-overs as an option. Also, I hope developers rid their own games of steretypes... I'm looking at you Ubisoft! :)

We don't have basements also, just second and thirds floors...

Sadly, for all you asking to us to "fix" our country, it is not that simple, since our "finest" politicians are more involved in discising the nationality of the second in command in the goverment, taking the tribune in the congress and generally looking like good-for-nothing idiots.

I'm starting to feel desapointing of our current president. He's a MICHOACANO, damn it! He should already got all of those idiots lined-up and working.

First of all let me tell that it makes me happy to see this article. I am Mexican and I actually work in the Mexican Video game industry. This one billion number is quite accurate, at the moment the industry is worth 600mill, and the interesting fact is the wroth rate back in 2003 the industry wasn’t even worth 200 mill.

I has now become 3-7% (depending on the publisher) of the US, with an estimate to grow bigger than Canada (10 -15%) by the next decade.

EA, Ubisoft and THQ have opened offices here, and the big next question is Latin America, at the moment Mexico represent 70% of all Latin America, but soon you will see a boom from south of Mexico, Brazil is still slow only because of tax issues (eg: a X360 is $1200 USD), but some day that will change and that day is soon...

Most of america, nearly everywhere below the US is treated like crap by the videogames industry.
Consoles, games and accesorys are expensive, theres no good Gamestop style places to get 20$ bucks used games, not many tornaments or events neither.

Why?
IDK.
But when a X360 is 500$ and a game nearly 80$,and Piracy is SOO ACCESIBLE,people tend to rather paying 600$ for a X360 as long as they can just get 15$ new copied games.
Its a vicious cycle, expensier games more people go to piracy, and games are expensier...kinda sad.

Anyway, yeah while many countrys are still stuck on the 3world and sucking it,there are others like mexico argentina brazil panama etc that would be amazing targets for a better focus from the industry.
I mean, why bother so much for the same people when theres a big market untaped?

The reason they're more expensive: Import taxes. The price is more or less the same as in the US, but add the import taxes and nobody wants to buy anything.

Hell, I prefer to go to the US and buy a game for MSRP instead of paying $20-$40 more for a $15 game.
