FF7 Crisis Core receiving special edition in UK [updated]
We're well aware that only two groups of people are going to be interested in this particular bit of news. The first, of course, is the set of people eagerly awaiting the English version of Square Enix's portable Final Fantasy VII prequel, Crisis Core. Though American fans are due to receive the PSP game later this month, folks in the UK have to wait a bit longer. The wait may not be without reward, however, as a "Special Pre-Order Edition" of Crisis Core: FF7 (complete with obligatory art book and slipcase) has been spotted on certain retailer websites. Eurogamer notes that an announcement is "imminent," and suggests that offers for the rest of Europe may differ.Oh, and the other group? That would be the smaller and decidedly more eccentric bunch that absolutely hates the F7 key for no apparent reason. We apologize if Google search picked up on our headline and led you astray. Personally, we've never cared much for that tilde key.
[Update: You can now see the special edition (animated and spinning!) on the official Crisis Core website.]

Great job, SquareEnix.
dizzy @ Mar 14th 2008 4:31PM
Actually I think EB/Gamestop were offering a Shinra encrusted UMD case with a pre-order.
Yeah...to quote the boys from Red vs. Blue, "Whooptie-friggin-do."

Considering how badly the UK gets treated when it comes to game releases, its about time we got something the US didn't.
Badwolf @ Mar 14th 2008 5:40PM
Guess you'll just have to make do with getting games earlier and cheaper than the UK.
Keiichi @ Mar 14th 2008 6:40PM
Yeah, now you know what we've had to put up with for years.
STILL no release date for Brawl, BTW.
kinshadow @ Mar 14th 2008 3:48PM
Fuck you Joystiq! Tilde is the best key ever!
Tilde should always pull up a console command line in every game!

Umm...too bad no one actually buys PSP games. Nothing against the system, but the state of piracy on it is nothing short of ridiculous.
Sir Fidlious Wong (Zeon Defense Force) @ Mar 14th 2008 3:58PM
So THAT'S why Battlefront 2 was a million seller on PSP....
Piracy is bad on PSP, yeah. But saying no games sell on PSP is every bit as ignorant as saying R4 kills DS software sales...
Maverick Saturn @ Mar 14th 2008 4:06PM
Hmm, I wonder what I've been doing last couple of months, oh yeah, magically teleporting free game copies to my PSP. :)
Correction, only cheapskates download the games.
KeenCommander @ Mar 14th 2008 4:09PM
I wasn't saying no games sell, just that sales would be better if there was less piracy on the PSP. I don't think the R4 could ever kill the DS, because most of the DS market is casual, and at least in America no casual players that I know have even heard of the things. PSP owners, on the other hand, are mostly hardcore gamers who are more apt to know how to install custom firmware, etc. Especially since on the PSP doing so is easy and free. The only things developers have going for them are 1. The few owners of unhacked PSP's 2. The honest people who actually care about the games, and legit use CFW for homebrew & 3. If they make the game big enough, it's not much more to buy the game than a memory card that will store it (assuming a 1GB card is $20 and a large game would be 1.2 GB, since I think that's about the max).
Sir Fidlious Wong (Zeon Defense Force) @ Mar 14th 2008 4:48PM
No no, don't try to back away from your comment...
"Umm...too bad no one actually buys PSP games. Nothing against the system, but the state of piracy on it is nothing short of ridiculous."
Too bad no one buys PSP games... your statement. Meanwhile, if such a statement was true, development on the system would have dried up long ago. But it didn't. In fact, this game in question, despite being released in only a single territory, is already a million seller. Most PSP games don't get record break sales to be certain, but cost of development on the system is low.
Meanwhile, you assume every PSP owner is a hardcore gamer who knows AND chooses to pirate. This is a staggering stat that is hilariously misinformed. I don't care if you have a console that only sold two million, to suggest that 100% of that market knows how to exploit and hack the system is pure lunacy. But to even suggest such a thing to a market where, I believe, has breached 25 million users goes straight to the ignorant paranoia the RIAA fed upon as they proceeded to make the music industries largest mistake ever (beating out refusing to sign The Beatles).
Look, let's put it this way.... God of War on PSP is set to sell at least 500,000 in it's lifetime. Currently on track to accomplish this in spades. Meanwhile, the most popular torrent has 15,000 downloads. What you're saying is that the pirating minority dictates the purchasing habits of the majority.
And make no mistake, PSP piracy is rampant indeed, but it's still a massive minority. After all, PSX and PS2 has rampant piracy... worse than the PSP. PSP, NDS, Wii, and 360 are all current victims of piracy trends... yet they are doing fine...
KeenCommander @ Mar 14th 2008 5:20PM
My statement was an exaggeration, which should have been obvious for exactly the reasons you used to refute it. I really need to find a game blog with more civilized commenters.
KeenCommander @ Mar 14th 2008 5:23PM
And all I was suggesting is that the portion of the user base who would know how to exploit the system is larger than on DS, and possibly a majority of owners. How could you think I was implying every PSP owner knows how to hack it? I personally know a couple who don't, but they are also outnumbered by the number of PSP owners I know who both know how to hack it and choose to do so.
Sir Fidlious Wong (Zeon Defense Force) @ Mar 14th 2008 5:28PM
What about my repsonse wasn't civilized? You grabbed a common myth, I debunked the myth.
If you wish to partake of douchebaggery, don't be shocked when someone calls you out on it.
KeenCommander @ Mar 14th 2008 8:40PM
It's not a myth at all. Fact: PSP is the easiest system to pirate on since the Dreamcast. Fact: The Dreamcast suffered from rampant piracy. Fact: More of the PSP owners I know pirate games than those who don't. It's obviously not to the point where everyone does it, but it's still a widespread problem AS YOU ADMITTED TO, which is all I said in the first place.
Sir Fidlious Wong (Zeon Defense Force) @ Mar 14th 2008 3:57PM
This article should have a "~" tag....
joeyg @ Mar 14th 2008 4:10PM
there's piracy on the psp??
*googles piracy on psps
Mills and Boom @ Mar 14th 2008 4:23PM
So who are selling it? They're getting my money when I find out.
Mills and Boom @ Mar 14th 2008 4:25PM

Draco @ Mar 14th 2008 5:20PM

CloudANDTidus @ Mar 14th 2008 5:21PM

CloudANDTidus @ Mar 14th 2008 5:19PM

Sir Fidlious Wong (Zeon Defense Force) @ Mar 14th 2008 5:30PM
Besides, you forget... we are gamers. We know what is up versus what isn't. So our group of friends is much more in tune with piracy and the like. So when you say "most of my friends have hacked PSPs, I submit to you that you are NOT an accurate representation of the market at large. After all, I doubt gamers made Spiderman 3, Spongebob, and Tranformers the million sellers they were.
Goity @ Mar 14th 2008 7:25PM
Bah... I don't really want to wait till the end of june for this. Methinks I'll import off of eBay. Hoorah for region free and all that.
Maverick Saturn @ Mar 14th 2008 6:23PM
I hate when people use 'most of my friends' or 'my friends' as an example for everyone, I don't mind if you use it has an example in the statement you are making, because 'most of my friends could mean you have four friends and 3 of that four have or do whatever. Heck, if your freinds are online and have the same console and games as you, they are bound to be in that 'most' catagory, so its stupid mentioning it.
Superstar90 @ Mar 14th 2008 7:05PM
"Most of my friend(s)" is what they should be saying.
Mills and Boom @ Mar 14th 2008 8:26PM
But by saying "my friends" they're already implying the small demographic. Then sometimes "my friends" also represent a majority. My friends think the PS3 sucks and bought 360's over it, where I'm from that's what everyone else is doing.
It's a loose phrase but it can have some solid grounding in the mass public. Not always, of course.
Maverick Saturn @ Mar 14th 2008 11:41PM
But we all live in different areas, so what do I care what your friends are doing? Thats as pointless as tell you that over here my freinds are buying Wii and not 360 or PS3 for the exact same reason you stated.
If the Wii is not selling (hyperthetically not literally) then what difference does it make if your friends are buying it? And your friends, or whoevers friends still does not make up the larger demographic, its just the minority of people in which you know, while people are buying something in one area, in another group of friends and area the entire system changes.
Speaking of which, my friends either have a PS3 or Wii, yet 360 is the second highest selling console over the PS3, so whether my friends are buying the thing makes no difference to the demographic, heck, all my friends, my family and my friends' friends and family could buy PS3s and I doubt it would change PS3's position unless the larger majority of people decide (like they currently are) to follow the same trend.
Maverick Saturn @ Mar 14th 2008 11:42PM
Thats why I hate that statement, its limited, and it has no meaning except to symbolize nothingness.
Mills and Boom @ Mar 15th 2008 7:19AM
Except when it does?
As I said.
My friends would rather go for an adventure than going into town and getting drunk. (This is an example of how my friends aren't like everyone else)
My friends would rather buy a Wii or 360. (This is an example of how my friends are like everyone else, its a minor demographic that represents a much larger one)
