You know they tried 3D with very little success... Maybe they should go back to their roots.

"We can't wait to see what Sonic does next." All joking aside, that shouldn't even be joked about as bad as Sonic has been since the Dreamcast. Sonic should be in Guinness for the swiftest fall from grace by any franchise in entertainment, period.

You know, the sonic adventure games were great. Especially the first one. Here are some guidelines-
1. Keep up the music, it can be suprisingly good, though cheesy.
2. Remember those awesome 3d environments from Sonic Adventure 1? Do that again.
3. The first two adventure games proved that the speedy rail-type game works just as well in 3d as they do in 2d.
4. Seriously, stop adding characters. There are about 300 and they're all the same. We care about Sonic.
5. Reboot the franchise. Keep the characters to a minimum and provide a nice backstory with enough of an excuse for us to blaze through levels jumping on enemies. Its never stops being awesome.

I may be the only person that thinks Shadow was a decent character. But honestly, after Shadow the idiocy of new characters rose. Whoever that Silver hedgehog was? Lose him. Keep Rogue just because it's interesting to see the relationship between her and Knuckles, Keep the characters introduced from Sonic Adventure 1. And Shadow and Rogue... Everyone else, drop them.

Eh, Sonic PS360 wasn't the worst thing in the world, the only thing that made it worse than other 3D sonic offerings were:

1. The second worst story, after Shadow the Hedgehog
2. Buggy, very buggy, this includes load times

It also lost points because they claimed it would "restore the franchise." If anything, Wii's Secret Rings did more to take it back to the roots (well, not the horrible minigame multiplayer, but the awesome single player worked neatly)

After playing my copy of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, I think the passion for Sonic is getting back to a high level. You can tell the developers cared about treating him well (although why does Solid Snake hate him so much?).

My dream idea for a new Sonic game would be 'Metroid-style', like Castlevania SOTN is formulated. Or, it could be something like Castlevania Portrait of Ruin, with portals allowing travel to elseworlds wholly unconnected to the main world.
Other stuff:

* 2-D gameplay with 3-D characters (like Brawl)

* More emphasis on fighting and 'use' weapon abilities. Using his moves from Brawl as a jumping-off point (no pun intended), branch out and create combo moves, and offer more power-ups and pickups (hey, it works for Mario, why not Sonic? Sonic hasn't ever had many.)

I love sonic, he's the coolest character I know. I know he's sucking a lot right now, but it's not his fault. It's the dummies that are making him do his stupidness. Sega should find a new Sonic Team and make something good.
