Square Enix preps Valkyrie Profile for the DS
From the pages of Japan's Jump magazine comes news that Square Enix is giving tri-Ace's RPG franchise Valkyrie Profile a touchable makeover, with the series' latest sequel heading to the Nintendo DS. So say the translation sages at IGN: The game will carry the cumbersome title of Valkyrie Profile: Toga wo Seou Mono, and will introduce a new hero named Wilfred alongside unspecified series regulars.
The game marks the series' second official sequel, and the third title since 2006 following Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria for the PlayStation 2 and Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, a remake of the PlayStation original for the PSP. Unlike those games, however, Toga wo Seou Mono looks to adopt a three-fourths perspective on top of the 2D side scrolling profile view for which the series is known. That said, we're creatures of habit; we fear change -- but with tri-Ace again at the helm we're excited to see where the devs take the Norse mythology-based RPG franchise next.

Is this a remake or a sequel? If the former, then I'd rather not play the copy I have on my computer that my friend gave me. If it's the latter, then I shall play away.
Either way, I'm loving the DS love that's been going on lately. Lots of RPGs I'm looking forward to.

Please, oh please Squeenix, don't screw this up. I need this.

I think squeenix is on a pretty good streak with the DS so far. Hopefully this game continues that streak!

Oh yeah, I was going to play Valkyrie Profile for PS on my PC, but I forgot about it, maybe I should...

Good call. Im not much for DS games.. but this looks like a good match. I was never a fan of the DS' use of "3D".. I just cant condone it.
This ought to be a 2D sidescroller as the others are. That will translate well.

Have you seen all the fantastic 3D RPG's games that Square Enix do?
Or Phantom Hourglass? Or New Super Mario?
Is amazing what good developers can do with the DS graphics.

I've never played any Valkyrie Profile games, but I'm anticipating this as the DS very badly needs a good RPG. I really hope this doesn't suck.

omg....

Nate @ Mar 14th 2008 9:36AM
....or you could buy a PSP :)

Except Joystiq is mostly indifferent towards the PSP and
vicious towards the PS3. For them 360 and DS are where its at. : (
Superstar90 @ Mar 14th 2008 7:16PM
So you would rather Joystiq say:
"Valkyrie Profile coming to DS, but it came to PSP already so whatever, buy a PSP"
Geez, think before you post.

Oh my God...
THIS IS THE BEST NEWS EVER. Valkyrie Profile is one of my favorite series (despite being only two games long), and the second one kicked so much ass. Hopefully, this one will combine the awesome storytelling from 2 with the awesome combat from 1.

You know, after the ending of Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria ended up with a half-dozen paradoci that render the first two games impossible, I have to wonder if the third game would be somehow trying to right the timeline before it creates a cross-dimensional Ragnarok.
Though I'm really hoping Hrist plays a prominent role. Let the high holy she-devil get her day in the sun, I say.
