Weekly Webcomic Wrapup enjoys making parallels
We'd like to make a note of David Hadju's new book, The Ten-Cent Plague: The Great Comic-Book Scare and How It Changed America. It takes a look at how the federal government's involvement in censoring comics damaged the comic book industry. There are quite a few parallels to draw from this and what video games have to face. Since this is a highlight of video game webcomics, we thought it'd be dually poignant. Here are our picks for the week's best game-related webcomics. Be sure to vote for your favorite! (Voting after the break)
- A Price Cut (RPG-TV)
- Dongs Are Everywhere (Penny Arcade)
- Cut Above the Rest (Dueling Analogs)
- Going Online (VG Cats)
- Deja Vu (2P Start)
- Dots (The Librarianist)
- Causing Violence (Cectic)
- Oh, Why the Hell Not (Scout Rush)

Ghen @ Mar 16th 2008 4:22PM

ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Mar 15th 2008 9:50PM
GODDAMN it's so hard to choose this week!
Penny Arcade actually made a genius penis joke.
VGcats really nailed the online experiences of the different consoles.
Cectic had a really great broad perspective of media.
And Scout Rush was just twisting the blade in Eliot Spitzer's wound.
playwhutyalike @ Mar 15th 2008 9:50PM
Cectic for me.

hydralisk456 @ Mar 15th 2008 10:05PM
DA for me, I would totally cut up a body for 60 picarats!
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Mar 15th 2008 10:08PM
Mine goes to Dots. The most unique of them all.
CB @ Mar 15th 2008 10:16PM
I didn't like any, to be honest.
MadMup @ Mar 15th 2008 10:47PM
Gotta agree - nothing all that great this week.
David @ Mar 16th 2008 12:37AM
Wow, I think this week has been great.

... wut?
Neebs @ Mar 15th 2008 10:30PM
RPGTV because those things the FUCKING BOMB and I haven't had one in over 10 years.
Neebs @ Mar 15th 2008 10:32PM
Fuck, no wonder it's been that long. They don't even sell em in the US. How I ever got them will be a mystery.
Rein @ Mar 15th 2008 11:42PM
Actually, they do. Try going to non-major grocery stores like Aldi (or any place like that depending on where you live). I go there every once in a while and I'm able to buy all types of Kinder products.
Mr.ESC @ Mar 16th 2008 2:48PM
I loved Kinder Surprise when I was a kid, hell I still love those.I haven't eat one in years.
Markusdragon @ Mar 15th 2008 10:45PM
"I'm English, and as such I crave disappointment. That's why I buy Kinder Surprise. Horrible chocolate; nasty little toy: a double-whammy of disillusionment! Sometimes I eat the toy out of sheer despair."
-Bill Bailey
Mr.ESC @ Mar 16th 2008 2:53PM
“Horrible chocolate”
STOP right there. Kinder chocolate was one of the best believe me. Maybe you picked one of the Kinder imitations that taste awful.
The toys included where either great or just lame depending on which one you pick, sometimes there were these cool metal robots or sometimes a gnome figurine which wasn't so bad.
Gurei @ Mar 15th 2008 11:13PM
they are all realy great these week.
I mean seriously,all great.
So is it political critic and sidenote on the gta flaming,
pointing out a social irony of religion
,the awful truth of next gen online or the nostalgic memorys of cartridge systems?
Stevo @ Mar 15th 2008 11:10PM
Hey joystiq, what about CAD?
http://www.cad-comic.com/comic.php?d=20080315
Neebs @ Mar 15th 2008 11:22PM
Because even I like B^U and that comic sucked.
Stevo @ Mar 16th 2008 12:17AM
Hmmm your entitled to your opinion I supouse.
CB @ Mar 16th 2008 3:04AM
Ok, that was just damn disturbing.
jcd @ Mar 16th 2008 4:32AM
I actually liked this one. haha, snake would clearly make link his bitch any day
playwhutyalike @ Mar 16th 2008 9:18AM
What the shit? Awesome.
Stevo @ Mar 16th 2008 2:35PM
Fuckin Downvoted into oblivion, no one gets freedom of opinion on the internet without reprecussion huh?
Mr.ESC @ Mar 16th 2008 2:58PM
The truth is that Cad has its moments but most of the time is the entire opposite of funny. That comic was disturbing, why the hell was Snake raping Link?
jcd @ Mar 16th 2008 3:46PM
I think the problem here is that people don't get the joke. That movement snake is doing is something you could sort of do in mgs2.
You killed a soldier and picked him up/dropped him continuously to get stuff from him. It looked a helluva lot like humping the guy.
CAD's storyline sucks, very bad. But his game centric comics are sometimes good.
dantebk @ Mar 15th 2008 11:11PM
Dueling Analogs and the Librarianist were the only ones that made me laugh, so I went with Dueling Analogs. Yesterday I did the sandwich-puzzle in Professor Layton they were spoofing, so it was fresh in my mind. And yes, 60 picarats are so worth it.

GreyFox @ Mar 16th 2008 12:08AM
VG Cats does it again.
Mills and Boom @ Mar 16th 2008 12:26AM
WTF there were no TF1 or 2 scouts in "scout rush". Rubbish.
Mr.ESC @ Mar 16th 2008 2:59PM
The site is called "Scout rush".I also thought the comic was about TF2.
iofthestorm @ Mar 16th 2008 12:40AM
I meant to vote for 2PStart but misclicked and voted for the last one, stupid mouse. VGcats is good too for making fun of all three systems' online functionality, although currently I'm being pained by the Wii's idiotic online. But even without voice chat, online brawl is amazingly fun.
mietha CAG @ Mar 16th 2008 12:55AM
Dammit, it's hard. VG Cats, Cectic and Scout Rush are all great.
Stephen Broida @ Mar 16th 2008 2:02AM
That David Hadju book cover art looks very familiar. Did he work on American Splendor?
~Otaku-Man
Nikonov @ Mar 16th 2008 3:10AM
Cectic's made me piss myself. My pants are now soiled with laughter and urine.
NekoMode @ Mar 16th 2008 3:41AM
Deja Vu. Trully I laughed out loud.
Freezer @ Mar 16th 2008 4:53AM
Picking on Nintendo's chronic inability to get online play right shouldn't be that funny. But it is.
Mark @ Mar 16th 2008 9:39AM
RPG-TV: It's supposed to be a joke about how inexpensive consoles are, I guess. But $300USD is still expensive. And the story below about how the author has bought two 360s to fix RRODs makes 360 users seem foolish.
Penny Arcade: A really immature penis joke.
Dueling Analogs: Almost funny, but meh.
VG Cats: The first panel is okay, but the last two just don't work. The second panel is inappropriate and the last one isn't funny, especially since Home isn't out yet.
Deja Vu: Blowing in your Wii is a really bad idea. It's not like a NES cart.
The Librarianist: Meh. Not that amusing.
Cectic: Anti-religious bigotry.
Scout Rush: Meh. And the story isn't funny, it's tragic. That guy has a family, and children!
mattydread @ Mar 16th 2008 10:15AM
People like you worry me. Lighten up a bit, these are just comics.
Mills and Boom @ Mar 16th 2008 1:18PM
I agree Mark, these comics are just a bit foul.
RPG-TV's was alright but the 360 is still £200 for the worthwhile model. That's not exactly Kinder Egg stuff.
Richie @ Mar 16th 2008 1:55PM
Do you have a sense of humor? Or a soul?
Mark @ Mar 16th 2008 11:35PM
Ouch! No sense of humor? Worse, no soul?
Hey, I think these were all pretty weak, and I stand by that. I voted for DA, by the way.
Donald @ Mar 16th 2008 10:38AM
I voted for DA, but mainly because I preferred Wednesday's PA strip to anything that came out this week.
"The prosecution asserts that this shit is off the hook."
tc @ Mar 16th 2008 11:50AM
new low for PA. At least before they had interesting colour schemes to go with their non-jokes
Mr Khan @ Mar 16th 2008 1:09PM
Cheer to VGCats (voted) and DA
Jeer to Cectic and PA
pez @ Mar 16th 2008 1:23PM
Sad not to see eegra.com not on the list. It rocked this week (again): http://www.eegra.com/show/sub/do/browse/cat/comics/id/24
TheFofDinosaur @ Mar 16th 2008 2:30PM
scout rush for me
