But they're still games. So of course they're going to count them.

I think with everyone above me trying to count every retail game + XBLA + Xbox 1 titles and so on, we're all overlooking the obvious.

He just made the number up. He's a businessman, that's what they do.

I didn't see anything in either article that said it included Live arcade titles. In case anyone is wondering there are currently 121 XBLA games.

yup and some 400-450 360 titles. This includes all XNA games, Originals and/or all backwards compat x-box games.... By this logic you have to count all PS1,PS2,PSN & PS3 games for the number of titles Sony has and all GC, Wii Ware, Virtual Console and Wii games for Nintendo in which both would easily be over 1,000. One poster above said it best that Microsoft is in PR spin mode for good news after getting pwned the last 2 months in NA NPD sales figures (shortages????? LOL).

I'd be much more impressed if they were going to have 100 games with a 95+ metacritic score by Summer 2008.

Isn't the 1600 only for NTSC region? I always heard something like 4000 titles if you count all regions- which double-counts the same game multiple times. The 360 numbers could be worldwide.

Let's not forget PS2 didn't have PSN game downloads, or as much shovelware as DS/Wii/PSN/XBLA.(sorry but most of these download games are crap. Rocketmen? pshhh...)

I'm sure Wii will beat that sometime due to 3rd parties going after its casual market that Nintendo has a dominance over.
PS3 will probably never see nearly as high as the numbers as 360 or Wii due to the cell. I believe in the smart developers to be able to tap its power.

Um, Griffin... FYI, not everything on the PS2 was golden homie. The PS2 was well known for its shovelware.

I wouldn't say "well known" for shovel ware. The Wii is certainly well known for shovel ware but the PS2 was well known for its great franchises as far as I remember it. The PS2 had all of the good console games last generation.

Amazon lists 448 XBOX 360 games. This counts unreleased games for pre-order, a few canceled games, games with multiple versions/editions, and such, also.

So, there's 448.. even THOUGH the number isn't as low as it should be, we will count it.
Okay? Okay.
Now, let's see.. 121 XBLA games.

121+448 = 569
569.
Either A) this is counting XBOX 1 games also
or B) Microsoft is magically going to release about 100 games a month from here on out.

Methins it's the former.

Take a look at the wikipedia page that lists xbox 360 games. There is roughly 453 games listed. However that includes some 2008 titles. I would say take about 20-30 off of the number. So probably 420 xbox 360 games have been released.

Officially they COULD hit 1,000 by august. Why? Because just like Sony(and probably nintendo) they do count different versions of the same game in that number. Limited editions and such.

The only way the 360 has 1,000 games is if you count multiple versions of the same title (as in each region release). If you count PS2 titles that way you're talking well over 4,000, maybe over 5,000. This "figure" is not nearly as impressive as it might seem.

I was about to buy a 360 yesterday but theres about 4 games I want for it.

All them games and so few appeal to me. I'm not much on generic RPG and generic FPS. Probably why I've only played HL2 and friends for the last few years LOL.

And before I get lynched the PS3 has even less games and the Wii has about 4 too so STFU.

God I miss last gen.

450ish games including ones that are in development without release dates. Until a game is on the shelf or available as a download it cannot be counted as an available game for the console. The majority of the 450ish games aren't 360 exclusives either.

Maybe they are counting the impending release of 300 Pac-Man clones on XNA. I tend to not want to count games that could be played on a pocket calculator as a true game for a console that can play a game like Gears of War.

I think they're counting the Burger King games like 50x each. And maybe XNA games a couple each. And maybe Rock Band songs as individual titles.

1,000 real titles? BS.

There are plenty of worthwhile titles to play on 360, but 1,000 by summer requires some very creative accounting.

1000? Anyone find this fishy. Man MS has been spreading dribble lately ... Out of consoles...1000 games...BS...No way ms has even close to that many games...He's counting XB1 and Live Arcade (which is fine)...But by that scenario the ps3 has roughly 1.2 billion games if you include the ps2..

Getting sick of MS spin lately...Yeah your box is awesome and has a lot of good games due to the 1 year no competition lead...But they keep pretending like they are the ps2 this gen...Hardly..Don't spout off anything a quick googling won't backup idiots.

Though, at least the 360 isn't the home of the MOST shovelware... *looks at Wii*

LMAO! Love the political joke. You guys can't honestly complain about PS2 shovelware when a game called Ninjabread Man was released on the Wii. Nintendo approved of it to be on theri console, so i blame them, yes. In case you don't understand how sad this is, let me break it down:

NINJA
BREAD
MAN

Hey
Ninja men are cool
And so is bread.
Epic Win !
Being serious now, I don't really give a sh*t about alot of games. What I want is GOOD games. I'd prefer 3 game with the awesomeness of Bioshock/Orange Box/CoD 4/Gears of War
The way I see it, the only candidates are Gears of War 2 and Fable 2 at this moment. Stuff like Dead Space can easily turn out like FEAR, which was basically Half Life PLUS creepy chick popping out at you MINUS Awesome.
And seeing as my two candidates are sequels, It seems like the only way good games can be made is by relying on fanbase and game mechanics from previous titles.
On a slightly related note, anyone know the ratio of Wii,Xbox 360 and PS3 good:bad?

Everyone's talking about the myriad games the PS3 can play. Ummm. . .I don't know what old school PS3 you're talking about, but my shiny new one won't be playing half of those games. It might grill me some tasty burgers, though.

Nintendo Seal of Quality meant nothing. It and R.O.B. are the same thing. Got the foot in the door to revive the video game market.
The draconian measures like limiting 5 games a year per developer, buying all cartridges upfront, and limiting porting for years were ruled by the Supreme court as illegal and unconstitutional. They're never coming back.
