Deadliest Catch: Alaskan Storm trailer could save a life
22
You're probably wondering why we decided to post this particular video for Deadliest Catch: Alaskan Storm. After all, there's only a few seconds of gameplay at the end of the trailer, following a puzzling interview with Sig Hansen, captain of the crustacean-hunting vessel Northwestern. Have we developed a penchant for haggard seafarers? Are we considering casting off our ties to the soil in search of clawed gold? No -- we've taken the time to post this video as something of a public service.
Did you know that being swept into the ocean is the third largest cause of death in the United States, ranking right below laser tag accidents and, of course, cougars? It's sad, but true -- we urge you to watch the video above, then make your loved ones watch it. Before you set out on your next lengthy voyage, go over your procedure to reclaim your overboard man from the unforgiving jaws of Davy Jones' locker. With a bit of preparation, every oceanic excursion can be a safe oceanic excursion. Unless, somehow, a cougar gets on the boat, in which case, God help you.

I am a huge fan of this TV show but there is just no way this game will be good.

The crabs would have to be giant, with weak spots for massive damage.

I want to see a fishing game where you shoot whales and giggle girlishly....
Oh yeah, I have that already... what do I need this game for?

It could work as an adventure game an exaggerating everything. Tidal waves, problems with communication, claustrophobic environments. For example try to find out your way out of a underwater cave filled with dirt clouds and octopus ink before you consume all your oxygen.
Then again is probably going to be like a Cabela game.

We all whine about how there are never any new ideas when it comes to our games. We have a million throw away garbage FPS's, we have sequels to sequels about sequels, we get the same old one man vs the world junk.
Then something like this comes along, crab fishing. Taking place on a boat in the middle of the Alaskan sea.. and everyone wants to ridicule it before playing it.
I, for one, am looking forward to playing something different. Endless ocean was a complete piece of GARBAGE, but it was popular among many people because there was a gun sticking out of the bottom of your screen while circle strafing some poorly programed AI shooting rockets at you.
Give crabs a chance.

This is a fresh idea for a video game, but it will probably be poorly designed and rushed to make a quick buck which is shitty. Great idea destroyed by greed.

Probably.
As I was saying it could work like a Adventure Survival game.
Get the catch and get out without getting killed and boy there are many ways to get killed underwater.
It could also work online. A team gets underwater while the rest supervise in the boat assuring the others get out alive and maintaining communication in case they get lost, Supplying oxygen etc etc.

Yeah, I know, I used to think that Raptors would be the number one cause of death.
Damn cougars.

I think this could end up being really good. The concept behind a crab-fishing game sounds iffy, but the flash game on the discovery channel website does it really well. So I think this could end up being a really fun game.

I'm not too sure how to feel about this game: sure it's new (some might even say it's refreshing), but I fear repetitiveness (seriously though, you can't really have much of a level design variety).
I hope there's something more to the game mechanic than checking your fuel level and making sure that you don't lose your men who seldomly get thrown overboard.

It will be like Shenmue, but you've already found the sailors.

Just thought up of something: has there ever been a Crocodile Hunter videogame where you just mess around with all kinds of forms of wildlife, whilst trying to make it out alive?

All this disrespect for the Bering Strait will come back to hunt you when the bridge/tunnel connecting the world comes to fruition.
