First Prey 2 details and concept art revealed

It's been nearly two years since the release of Human Head Studio's nausea-inducing FPS, Prey -- and subsequently, since 3D Realms' Scott Miller dropped hints of a sequel for the game. From July 2006 to yesterday morning, no news of Prey 2 had surfaced, leading some to believe the franchise had gone the way of the Duke. Luckily, Shacknews caught wind of a Radar Group website (which, for some reason, was taken down shortly after its inception) with some concept art and juicy, but brief, details about the game.
Tommy, the astral-projecting hero of Prey the first, will reprise his role as the brash protagonist. Blamed for the disappearance of his family, Tommy "escapes an Earth that no longer wants him for a future that cannot survive without him", according to the short-lived website. This short tidbit along with a single piece of concept art were all that Radar Group had to tease us with for now -- rumor has it that we'll be hearing more about the sequel some time this week. We'll let you know when that update narbuncularly drops into our hot little hands.

Prey 2? Who cares about Prey 2? Where the HECK is Duke Nukem Forever!?
Sir Fidlious Wong (Zeon Defense Force) @ Mar 16th 2008 5:41PM
I actually enjoyed Prey... so bring on a sequel. It's nice to see Native Americans out of the stereotypical roles of T Hawk and his ilk...

A little late to respond it seems. But I completely agree, Prey was a pretty fun game. I stayed up late many a night after school just to advance in the story, which I found fairly engrossing. The end had a nice cliff-hanger and I've always hoped that a sequel would surface before long.
DangerMouse @ Mar 16th 2008 5:52PM
Prey was disappointing, to say the least. The not being able to die looks good on paper, under the impression that everyone quicksaves, but i found myself just blindly spraying knowing i can come right back 30 seconds later anyway. For a game with so many cool features (rotating ceilings & portals), they sure did a poor job allowing any exploration. And the gameplay with regards to shooting was pretty piss poor and bland also.
Mills and Boom @ Mar 16th 2008 5:55PM
I liked the first 3/4 of Prey but it really got boring in them series of corridors where you had to fight them big bee like things. Nahhh.
But how long must we wait for Prey 2? I'm pretty sure I won't care about it in 7 years.
I swear I can see a face in that big building. Or at least its teeth.
DangerMouse @ Mar 16th 2008 5:56PM
I see an elephant.
Geist @ Mar 16th 2008 5:59PM
I see a bunny rabbit.

Actually I think it looks like Arthur from The Tick pulling some kind of angry face at us.
gLitterbug @ Mar 16th 2008 6:10PM
Prey would've been interesting if they released it back in '98. As it was, it had a hellishly annoying protagonist and story elements you wouldn't give two shits about because you don't care about any of the flat characters in the first place. The whole gravity gameplay/puzzling was very much underused and the game looked like just another normalmapped fleshymonster shootan game.
That said it wasn't necessarily bad, but ultimately forgettable. Now I just hope humanhead hurries to press out prey 2 in whatever turdform they can pass it as finished and go make another Rune. That would actually be worth getting hyped for.
Cyro @ Mar 17th 2008 8:05AM
Rune was an awesome game. I would love to see a sequel.
You can still go back and play rune and have fun. It had a nice story too.

3d realms is just unfortunately unable to actually turn any of their IP into games on their own anymore. Prey would have indeed been amazing if it had come out on the original timeline, but I think that the game that we got was more than satisfactory. It's possible that the name Prey was more of an albatross than a boon, given how people have treated it.
Looking forward to Prey 2, and I'm hopeful that there will be enough improvements to get the franchise beyond an undeserved bad rep coming from the kind of people who dislike anything other than their pet FPS anyway, but always feel like they have to come down from their mountain to tell the rest of us that we're drinking the wrong cola.
Ted @ Mar 16th 2008 7:53PM
I hope there's a portal gun :)
And glaDos :)
In fairness though, Prey was a great game, good at storytelling and it was fun. Overall underappreciated. It always makes me happy to see a game that made an effort to be different be awarded the recognition of a sequel.
Easo @ Mar 16th 2008 7:55PM
Prey 2 coming soon...or defiantly before 2018.
Easo @ Mar 16th 2008 7:57PM
I'll definitely spell definitely right next time.
J.Goodwin @ Mar 16th 2008 10:37PM
I think that the fact that it ever came out in the first place was something of an act of defiance, so a sequel may well defiantly arrive in the future :)
riggs @ Mar 16th 2008 11:31PM
i think defiantly is the better word.
born2kill @ Mar 16th 2008 9:02PM
Prey is a great game and if you actually played through it, you'd already know what the second game is going to be about; saving another world.
Mike-453 @ Mar 16th 2008 9:38PM
Couldn't care less what others think.
This excites me, I loved Prey.
Negativecool @ Mar 16th 2008 11:52PM
Ugh oh, do I see a bombed out catholic church in the background? :)
Garcian_Smith @ Mar 17th 2008 7:27AM
While the first game was good, and the story was full and dark enough to keep me interested, the gameplay was really dull. Yes, I know it has cool portal effects, but after... er, Portal, all that's left in the game is pretty run of the mill FPS action.
Dralthi @ Mar 17th 2008 11:15AM
Prey is one of my all-time favorite games. I originally got it for the PC and picked it up again later for the Xbox 360. I thought it was pretty innovative and entertaining when it first came out.
Here's hoping the sequel will take things to a, "Ho
nutha level!"
Joe Siegler @ Mar 18th 2008 1:16PM
Regarding the DNF comments I've seen...
The Radar titles will have no effect on DNF at all. I strongly suggest reading this link. All of it. Those uh.. "concerns" have already been addressed.

Abscissa @ Mar 18th 2008 2:53PM
Prey could have been great if it wasn't so damn linear AND didn't force you to listen to pointless NPC yapping before being able to advance. If Prey 2 is essentially one long glorified hallway (like Prey 1, and both Half-Life's), then count me out.
Tinymouse2 @ Jun 10th 2008 4:26PM
I think the reason that it hasn't been made earlier is that many retards kept torrenting it
It made the production of the second one an almost no
I hope they will go with valve and get lotsa money and make 3 4 5 6 and hopefully in under 10 years this time ^_^
