It's been four long years since Namco Bandai last graced us with its diminutive pink spelunker Mr. Driller in Mr. Driller Drill Spirits for the Nintendo DS. Thankfully, it's an oversight the company will soon remedy with the newly revealed Mr. Driller Online, a downloadable version of the casual puzzler currently in development for Xbox Live Arcade.
Details are currently light, though the game, which so far has only been confirmed for release in Japan this Spring, looks to stay true to the series' uber-cute roots of downward drilling and colors vibrant enough to make a box of Crayolas blush. The game will also include a handful of new modes and gameplay over Xbox Live, making the one thing that has been missing from the saccharine puzzler -- online trash talk -- a reality. Finally!

This game is like crack for me.
I can start a game on the DC or the DS and four hours will pass in the blink of an eye.
This game is dangerous!

Oh rock on!
Mr Driller is one of my most enjoyed candy colored experiences on Dreamcast (out of a fantastic cast of titles), and the GBA version just doesn't live up to the legacy (mainly because of the awful sound chip in that sucker).
Very happy to see this on XBLA.

This is exactly what XBLA needs! more variety! not an omnishooter every week. I fucking hate omnishooters.

WTF does that have to do with Mr. Driller? (And besides, Megaman has enough sequels/spinoffs as it is.)

I have no idea what Mr. Driller is. Sounds like a porn game.

It's a sequel to Dig Dug.
You proceed downward through the stage clearing tetris-style colored blocks by hitting them with a drill. You can cause collapses and blocks of the same color will stick together as they fall past one another. As you proceed, you run out of air, and have to locate air capsules to refill your supply. Blocker blocks exist that are harder to break (they take several hits, and reduce your air supply when you do break them).
It's extremely fast paced and addictive.

Exciting! I remember playing this in an arcade years ago. Finally an arcade port more intriguing (and modern) than Rally X or Frogger.
Now where's Sunset Riders? Or Growl?

...well then they better get to confirming this for US release then!
For the love of god Namco, come on. Mr. Driller hasn't seen a US release since the DC one AFAIK meanwhile there were several on the GBA that were awesome (I know I loved Mr. Driller 2).
MAKE IT HAPPEN.
US RELEASE...I DEMAND IT!!!
