Famitsu best of 2007 list shows a lot of Xbox 360 love
The Xbox 360 has a reputation for being the underdog in Japanese sales, partly due to its status as the only American-produced console of the big three. So color us surprised by Famitsu's list of the top 25 titles of 2007, as ranked by the magazine's review scores, which features a lot of love for Microsoft's white wonder.
Of the 25 titles ranked, a whopping ten are Xbox 360 titles. The games -- which include titles like Lost Odyssey, Halo 3 and Forza 2 -- make up the majority of the list, with the DS and PS3 tying at a distant second with five games apiece.
The PS2 and PSP each had two games make the top 25 list, and the Wii lagged in last place with only one title (Super Mario Galaxy). Congrats go out to Microsoft. Now all they need are some strong sales figures in Japan to go along with their impressive scores.

Hope we do as well this year, keep the good times coming 360!
Korova @ Mar 18th 2008 3:12PM
360 meets all my gaming needs and there is plenty that I havent got to.
Now if it could only fold proteins without RRODing, the Joystiq folding at home team would rock the stats charts.
Deck @ Mar 17th 2008 11:06PM
Isn't Lost Odyssey 2008? Since it just came out... ?
Glitch W @ Mar 17th 2008 11:13PM
Didn't it come out last year over there and then later here?
DemonGSides @ Mar 17th 2008 11:31PM
Yes to Glitch.
Yuccadude @ Mar 18th 2008 1:25AM
Yeah, and R6: Vegas came out in Nov. of 2006, so I think it's fair that Lost Odyssey is on there too.

Ahhh yes that is right. I forgot about that. Thanks for the clarification all! :)

be interesting to see if they get any sales boost off this.

"4. GTA San Andreas PS2 Capcom 38"
So getting sued for Dead Rising wasn't enough, now they are making a game called GTA San Andreas?
Take it easy, Capcom. The combined powers of Phoenix Wright and Apollo Justice may not be enough to save you now!
Anni (Smash FC: 0946-1930-4929) @ Mar 17th 2008 11:18PM
I'll be damned if I didn't lol hard.
MosquitoControl @ Mar 18th 2008 4:37AM
If memory serves, Capcom published it in Japan.
mezzanine @ Mar 18th 2008 4:38AM
Capcom published GTA SA in Japan, its perfectly fine and legal. Don't get your butthole all up in their face.
peacebyanymeans (AKA: Moorio) @ Mar 18th 2008 4:38AM
Capcom published the game in Japan.
Unless of course that was sarcasm, in which case Edgeworth will be representing Take Two.
AthiestChicken @ Mar 18th 2008 4:38AM
Capcom is the publisher for GTA in Japan only.
CJC @ Mar 18th 2008 4:39AM
Is this sarcasm? Capcom published GTA: SA in Japan for those who don't know.
CJC @ Mar 18th 2008 4:39AM
Err... you know Capcom published GTA in Japan, right?
doom saber @ Mar 18th 2008 4:40AM
Ummm....You know that in Japan, Capcom publishes the GTA games much like how Altus publishes japanese games made by other japanese companies for the american market.
Over in Japan, Capcom is a major publisher of american games. If I am not mistaken, they published the God of War games over at the land of the rising sun.
josh @ Mar 18th 2008 4:40AM
Just in case you didn't already know, Capcom published it in Japan.

Mr Intel @ Mar 18th 2008 4:40AM
its the same game Capcom published the Japanese version
Mr Intel @ Mar 18th 2008 4:41AM
its the same GTA San Andreas made by R* CAPCOM was the publisher of the Japanese version
herkulease @ Mar 18th 2008 2:40AM
Its not a typo. Take Two contracted with Capcom to release the GTA series on ps2 in Japan. Capcom did all the localization, publishing and distributing it.
Sami @ Mar 18th 2008 7:14AM
Oh hey, did you know that Capcom published San Andreas in Japan? Strange, innit? Betcha didn't know that! But don't worry, we're here to set the record straight. Hoo boy, straight alright. Bet I could find a few more people to straighten that record for you. Just wait a moment, more replies comin'.
The Monitor @ Mar 18th 2008 10:36AM
I think take-two had Capcom publish/localize the game in Japan
Dracula Jones @ Mar 18th 2008 10:05AM
Capcom did the thing with the game. Japan.
NATO_Duke @ Mar 18th 2008 10:25AM
Sure Sami, I got this one!
Capcom published the Japanese version of the game. Its the same one, just done by Capcom. Now imagine Capcom, and in their factory they have the same game, then they make lots of other ones (cloning if you will), that would be what they did. So yeah, same game. Capcom.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Mar 18th 2008 11:45AM
Jubus guy, don't you know that capcom is the japanese publisher?
Slaziman @ Mar 18th 2008 12:14PM
I called to Capcom and Take Two just to make sure:
Capcom IS in fact the publisher of GTA:SA in Japan
Stop trying to deny it!
mike @ Mar 18th 2008 1:37PM
WTF. Why are there 15 people replying to this guy saying the exact same thing, "capcome published it in Japan. Jeese it was already stated 2 or 3 times, yet 10 more people felt the need to state it again. WTf
WhatIsThatThing @ Mar 18th 2008 3:03PM
No, mike, you have it all wrong. It wasn't capcome that published it in Japan. It was Capcom.
Just in case you didn't know.
Wilhelm @ Mar 18th 2008 5:23PM
@ Mike
That's the joke.
Mills and Boom @ Mar 17th 2008 11:27PM
See before the PS3 fans started saying it - the 360 has a mighty huge library and some very highly rated games. Many many more than the PS3 and Wii's paltry library. Many good quality ones with lots of online play and connectivity.
A good system that is for some reason getting a lot of flack of late.
cxm @ Mar 18th 2008 4:38AM
"A good system that is for some reason getting a lot of flack of late."
Well, to be fair, the 360 HAS deserved SOME of the flack it's gotten. Hardware reliability is pretty major.
Anyway, I doubt all the quality games on the system will do much to curb the rampant nationalism the Japanese consumers have for their consoles/games. Forget giving something that many people have said was worth the time a chance...if it ain't a hometown title, the majority of them won't even give it the time of day.
Noshino @ Mar 18th 2008 2:49AM
uh...many PS3 fans (Im saying many, not all) have been saying for a while that the 360 has had the best library of games thus far...but you should give the PS3 and the Wii credit, because they have also achieved quality titles in almost the same amount of time as the 360
The "flack" has always been about the hardware, not the software (well, actually the only thing that I can think of is the lack of quality RPGs...but then again, LO seems to fill that hole)
Mills and Boom @ Mar 18th 2008 8:18AM
Oh yea it deserves everything it gets on the hardware front. The system is mostly ugly and of course the RROD.
But the controller. I'm really happy that finally we're getting a standard controller for PC's. So many new games now have a "360 controller" tick box that sets everything up right away.

Quit judging something you have never owned and have no intention of owning.. Go to the dentist and get you horseshoes fixed up.... Pretty pathetic that you would even formulate an opinion based on here say and not from personal experience. Your probably some 22 year old buck tooth limey who only plays old PS2 gams in an attempt to be cool and retro. Besides its not like you like this library of 360 games you speak about. You have said numerous times you hate everything this generation. You just hate anything thats popular because you are "cutting edge". Twunt.
Mills and Boom @ Mar 18th 2008 10:40AM
LOL incredible. I defend the 360 (sure the games aren't to my taste but attach rate and ratings say hi) and John has a go.
Wait isn't this John the guy who also doesn't like games by how they look, and now how they play? Sorry, racist. And reported as such.
Mills and Boom @ Mar 18th 2008 10:44AM
..."and not how they play"
John McPoop @ Mar 18th 2008 2:44PM
@Mills and Boom
FYI-
Limey may refer to:
The Limey, a 1999 film
A slang term for British people, commonly used by Americans.
So, I guess that would make my post true then wouldn't it?
You must tell me where you got your degree in spin because its pretty stellar. I think you should get a job at Fox News with the rest of the spin masters.
"See before the PS3 fans started saying it - the 360 has a mighty huge library and some very highly rated games. Many many more than the PS3 and Wii's paltry library. Many good quality ones with lots of online play and connectivity."
You see my statement holds especially to your standards of deductive reasoning. How would you know the quality of any of the current generation of consoles game's if you don't play them? Especially enough to say that one is superior to the other.
"A good system that is for some reason getting a lot of flack of late."
Again, how can you even formulate an opinion on the subject after you have repeatedly said you hate everything current gen and NONE of the games fir your taste? Its pretty simple actually. You are simply making shit up like you always do.
"LOL incredible. I defend the 360 (sure the games aren't to my taste but attach rate and ratings say hi) and John has a go."
So one minute the games are "QUALITY" in your opinion even though you have stated on many occassions you have never owned nor have any intention of owning and the next minute they aren't to your taste. Riiiiiiiiiiight. Sounds to me like you are making more shit up.
"Wait isn't this John the guy who also doesn't like games by how they look, and now how they play? Sorry, racist. And reported as such."
Again the Spin mode is in full effect. I suppose I can call you racist to and try to devalue everything you say for commonly using the word "Yank"....
Yank may refer to:
Yank, the Army Weekly, a newspaper for American soldiers during World War II
Yank (physics), the rate of change in force
Yanks, a 1979 film
Yank Rachell bluesman, mandolin and guitar player.
Yank, the name for the copy command in vi and the paste command in Emacs, two commonly used UNIX/Linux text editors.
Short form of Yankee, a slang term for someone of American origin or heritage
So, the whole point of this little exercise was to give you a taste of your own venomious medicine. I believe I have succeded in spinning the facts and twisting your words around to mean something else[than you intended] as well as assasinating your character. The same thing you attempted to do to me in reply on this thread and the thing you initiated on the Nintendo thread a day or so ago.
You need to learn the difference between having a legitimate discussion and making internet sensationalist claims about the intentions of others. There is a big difference between legitimately asking the appeal of a game (Me) to a certain demographic and making broad sweeping generalizations (you).
embassy @ Mar 18th 2008 4:35AM
the 360 seems to be the "Dreamcast" of japan.
and why did capcom publish GTA in japan? I guess Take2 wouldnt have gotten as much love from the japanese crowd?
i'm also suprised so many shooters and so few JRPG's are on that list. anyone else find that odd?
and another question, is japanese press as representative of the consumer-base as America? From this list it doesnt seem to be at all.
cxm @ Mar 18th 2008 4:38AM

the only thing this list confirms is that the rest of the gaming world should be greatful Japan is no longer the major influence they used to be.
Ace Combat 6, huh? (laughing)
SharpShooter @ Mar 18th 2008 12:02AM
Is this list supposed to be some kind of joke? Not only does this include Assassin's Creed, but some multi-platform games that are the EXACT same on both platforms. They should have just put Call of Duty 4 PS3/360 or only included exclusives.
Schuey19 @ Mar 18th 2008 12:14AM
Don't think it's fair to call it a joke just because you don't agree with the score for AC - that's your opinion, in their opinion it deserved 36/40
As for having multi-platform games listed seperately. The NDP figures do the same thing, not to mention the same game CAN score differently depending on the platform it's on so it's quite right to list them seperately.
CJC @ Mar 18th 2008 4:39AM
Err... GTA was published by Capcom in Japan.
(And Joystiq is giving me trouble with comments.)

It's a 2008 release for them I believe.
Frizbone @ Mar 18th 2008 4:39AM
Capcom is a publisher as well as a developer. R* uses Capcom as their publisher for Japanese releases.
