Japan's Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 bundle a real steel

Actually, the headline is headlyin' just a bit. Not only is Japan's forthcoming Metal Gear Solid 4 PlayStation 3 bundle not made of steel, it's not particularly cheap either. The latest issue of Famitsu reports (translated by IGN) that a steel-colored PS3 will join a special edition of Konami's highly anticipated senile sneaker sim in a Japanese Premium Pack.

Approximately ¥51,800 ($515) will net Japanese consumers an alloyring PlayStation 3, a matching controller, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, the Metal Gear Online starter pack and a special video disc no doubt packed with making-of fluff. And before you start importing, keep in mind that the US is also getting in on the bundling brouhaha this June.

Sony likes to kind of shrug America off most of the time when it comes to color choice.

Too bad too, because I love that steel finish, it's rather nice. A little bit different than your standard white/silver/black fair.

Seeing how the Japanese PSStore had a MGS4 trailer a couple weeks back that I started downloading until I saw how big the file was in english 25GB! ITS A TRAILER!

That PS3 looks horrible in my view. For me, personally, it would ruin the look of my entertainment setup that I have where everything is a nice looking sharp black. I would never buy this thing. It looks like someone scraped the finish off the 20GB model. I think I'll stick with a nice Glossy PS3 when MGS4 hits.

I wonder how much Sony is losing on PS3s now that 1 USD only = 95 yen (was around 120 yen when the PS3 came out), and heading lower seeing that the Fed thinks that cutting interest rates will solve our woes (which they won't, time and snapping back to reality will).

This could be an even better deal if they included full backwards compatibility and the Metal gear Anthology set to drop tomorrow. I do like the finish though because it reminds me of the finish on my Baretta.

The Japanese bundle includes the 40GB model of PS3 and the North American bundle will include the 80GB model, correct? For $500, North America is getting a better value, don't you think?
