Why was DK picked to be Jesus? A reference to evolution versus intelligent design? I have a feeling I'm reading too much into this.
Jansperus @ Mar 19th 2008 1:46AM
I agree. Mario, the Jesus of Nintendo, should have obviously been in the center. It would have made the entire painting more sensible. I mean, I could really see Luigi betraying Mario to the Jews for thirty coins after the way Luigi has been shafted.

To me it honestly seems like that Christina Aguilera allegation is a lie. Also, I liked the konami code better, though this one is pretty cool too.

DK! WATCH OUT! LUIGI IS GONNA BETRAY YOU!

Personally I think the Duck Hunt dog should be in his laughing state, more memorable of a pose IMO
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Mar 19th 2008 2:13AM
He should had been Judas.

I'm not usually offended by stuff like this, but I actually find this picture offensive. Obviously the artist has a right to display this, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. If you're wondering, yes I'm a Christian, so equating a video game character to Jesus is a bit too much to be humorous to me. I am glad however that I live in a country where it is possible to freely express these things.
Samuel Vimes @ Mar 19th 2008 1:38AM
Oh grow up you pretentious arse. Did your mother not tell you the truth about Santa and the Easter Bunny either?
Saria the Cat @ Mar 19th 2008 1:53AM
@Samuel: Since when is it pretentious to practice a faith? I think it is way more pretentious to equate a the existence of God, a core belief of many people, with fictitious characters. I'm an atheist myself but that doesn't give me or anyone else a right to be a condescending asshole to people with different beliefs.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Mar 19th 2008 2:18AM
@Samuel Vimes
Freedom of belief and freedom of speech are beautiful rights which ought to coexist.
Now, if Nintendo characters were to be equated with Satan and his demons in an art piece, I'm pretty sure that there'd be a general uproar at how crazy "Christian religious freaks" would be.
PS: In case you're interested, I'm an atheist, but that shouldn't even be relevant to my argument.
Samuel Vimes @ Mar 19th 2008 2:14AM
Evolution has allowed me the right to be a condescending asshole. I don't murder, steal, pillage, or rape. So I think the least I can be privileged to is calling a fool out on his comparison of Donkey Kong and Jesus. At least Donkey Kong has more viable structure than Jesus. People can believe what they want. Truth be told in the end.
Saria the Cat @ Mar 19th 2008 2:25AM
What's ironic is that your thought-process expressed in that statement is about as logical as the kind of process of religious extremists, or those people you call fools. :)
mezzanine @ Mar 19th 2008 2:59AM
Yeah, shut up.
Let him be offended, and let him offend you. Not like he can run into Xtina's nursery and burn it or anything.
Lemmiwinks (SSBBFC: 0903-2436-0891) @ Mar 19th 2008 12:38PM
Yes, you have the privilege to be an ass. Good for you. No, get out there and own it!
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Mar 19th 2008 2:21AM
If Christina Aguilera really put that in her nursery, that'd be messed up, because that's just creepy win.
SoloReX @ Mar 19th 2008 11:07AM
Damn you joystiq, you made me visit gaygamer. My masculinity has been shattered.

Note the reference to the female on the left! This is probably the most accurate recreations of the last supper just because there is a woman in it.

I'm fairly certain this is a matter of the artist taking a well-known piece of art and applying a video-game theme, rather than an earnest attempt at an affront to any religion.
But that's just me.
