Call of Duty 4 GOTY edition, map pack DLC coming April 3
A new site just sprung up on Xbox.com announcing the Call of Duty 4 variety map pack will arrive Thursday, April 3 for 800 MS points (US$10). The pack includes four new maps: Creek, Broadcast, Chinatown and Killhouse. The page also confirmed that Call of Duty 4 Game of the Year Edition is also coming April 3. No word yet on the equivalent PS3 release, for either GOTY or the map pack. We'll update when we find out.

Call of Duty 4 landed in the top ten in our 2007 Game of the Year Awards, but who filled the other nine spots? We've got Halo 3, Portal, Rock Band, Peggle (yeah Peggle), and more. Take a look.

April 3rd can't come fast enough.
Drew @ Mar 19th 2008 7:18PM
Exactly what I thought. April 3?! You kidding me?! I need it now! FEED MY ADDICTION!
Joeshie @ Mar 19th 2008 5:05PM
I really wish that the devs, Microsoft, or whoever is doing this would quit with the charging for this kind of stuff.
Chameleon @ Mar 20th 2008 8:05AM
amen ....
knetworx @ Mar 20th 2008 11:23AM
Microsoft charges publishers a massive fee for post-release data updates (such as new maps). Giving them out for free would be a huge financial hit for Infinity Ward. Not to mention they had to pay the level designers for their time creating the maps, as well as QA testers to verify their stability, and probably a few devs for specific code support.
super ultra @ Mar 19th 2008 5:06PM
Hey is that the transamerica building i see there?
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Mar 19th 2008 5:07PM
Can't wait for Chinatown. Now, all they have to do is remake Rocket and Railyard from CoD1 and the game will be complete (as long as said levels take place in winter Russia like the first game).
Tango Charlie @ Mar 19th 2008 5:19PM
That shot of Chinatown looks like Carentan! Ooh!
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Mar 19th 2008 6:23PM
It is carentan :) It's a remake :)
Haon @ Mar 19th 2008 5:07PM
Yay. 800 pts though? Oh well, gonna get it anyways. That games got me by the balls.
Snipermike @ Mar 19th 2008 5:07PM
I will pay 900 points if they take away shipment along with the deal.
Lone Starr @ Mar 19th 2008 9:29PM
Shipment is a great map if you know how to play it. ;)
Vandalsdude442 @ Mar 20th 2008 9:34AM
I know how to play it, yo use sonic boom, matredom, and when you spawn, throw a nade. Then you die and the nade that you drop when you die kills someone els, thus keeping your k/d ratio up. =Laym!
Jayslacks @ Mar 19th 2008 5:08PM
Halo 3 has 3 maps. COD4 has 4. Both the same price. Man, this is gonna be real fun to watch...
Fish @ Mar 19th 2008 5:17PM
Hahaha, it already is. Everyone is all excited for the CoD4 map pack- but the Halo 3 one is a ripoff and not worth it?
Regarding the number of maps in each pack- CoD4 maps must take much less time to make and are easier to balance. Halo has to balance weapon spawns, vehicles, many more gametypes, plus set it up for Forge.
How does CoD4 even integrate the maps into the matchmaking service?
sifer2400 @ Mar 19th 2008 5:19PM
i was thinking the same thing altho im gona wait for the maps on cod4 to become free and will buy the halo 3
Jfk Aok @ Mar 19th 2008 6:18PM
Fish,
Are you serious? The level of detail for 1 COD4 map is multiplicatively more than a whole pack halo stages. AND the COD4 maps ARE balanced...which is more than I can say for any halo map that they bothered to ship with. One of the maps they sold was barely a map but more of a "make your own darn map" map.
And getting 33% more maps for your buck is not a small amount.
There's many good reasons why despite the zillion dollars spent on advertisements, COD4 is the most played game on live right now. One reason...better maps.
Obie @ Mar 19th 2008 6:36PM
Because the game is more fun and the maps have more value IMO.
JakubK666 @ Mar 19th 2008 7:31PM
More Value = It's soooo much easier to make a campaign cut-out than to design something from scratch.
Sure Rat Nest is no different but at least it's very heavily modified so the only thing that stays is the style.
Matt @ Mar 19th 2008 7:45PM
Fish, they have announced 2 new playlists. Apparently, only 2 in the beginning? Variety Team Deathmatch and Variety Tactical or something like that.
knetworx @ Mar 20th 2008 11:23AM
@JakubK666:
Correction -- it's harder to turn a single player map into a balanced multiplayer map.
@everybody:
For the last time, it costs IW nothing to send out a PC update, but Microsoft charges them an assload to put out an update on the 360, that's why PC users get the maps for free. I play the game on the 360, but would probably buy it for PC as well if my PC were good enough to run it.
arrrgh @ Mar 20th 2008 4:07PM
cmon give the halo devs a break!!! Theyre trying as hard as they can to remove the gheyness from halo3...
but sadly the levels of fehggotry involved in shooting 10 year old kids who don't stop saying fuck...not even for one second.. is simply too much, ergo CoD4 wins
Shozzy @ Mar 25th 2008 4:53PM
LOL
Call of Duty 5 is out in Novemer this year lol along with gears of war 2 and many other exclusives for PS3 and Xbox 360
Fernando Rocker @ Mar 19th 2008 5:12PM
Speaking of April... my birthday is in April 26... so, I will gladly accept VC games, both Wii and 360 Points...
But with just a "Happy Birthday" is enough =p
Arturo @ Mar 19th 2008 5:17PM
early april fool's joke?
Justin @ Mar 19th 2008 5:14PM
$10?! I'd be more willing for $5...
eljeeffa @ Mar 19th 2008 5:15PM
you will still buy them @ 10 though
Spiza @ Mar 19th 2008 5:29PM
Can't wait for these to be free for PC.
Vandalsdude442 @ Mar 20th 2008 9:30AM
I know! AWESOME!
Crusty Magic @ Mar 19th 2008 5:29PM
The thing I hate about this is that the PC users are going to get these for free, while we have to shell out money for them. I don't see how thats fair at all...
Joeshie @ Mar 19th 2008 5:32PM
Yeah, well life isn't fair.
PC users also don't get the huge game releases nor large amount of games that consoles users get.
TWIMTBP @ Mar 19th 2008 6:11PM
Have a heart, they've already had to spend lotsa $$ on buying a PC that can run COD4 well.
Lone Starr @ Mar 19th 2008 9:31PM
Say it with me:
Cross-platform subsidies!
Sam @ Mar 20th 2008 12:06AM
you have better graphics, less lag, and a larger player base, seems fair enough to me.
Vandalsdude442 @ Mar 20th 2008 9:24AM
Ya well i am an idiot, I have COD4 for pc and 360. . . Long story. I honestly think it looks better on the PC. But then again I have 2 video cards soo? Did they come out with the winter crash map for the 360? BTW AWESOME!
Kassu @ Mar 19th 2008 5:47PM
For some reason, every time someone writes "GOTY" I read it as "GTFO"
TWIMTBP @ Mar 19th 2008 6:11PM
GOTY
TWIMTBP @ Mar 19th 2008 6:12PM
j/k no offense
cubsbearsbulls2008 @ Mar 19th 2008 5:50PM
I'm sick of paying for downloadable content I could see paying for it on the PS3 but on the 360 it should be free since we have to pay XBOX Live and paying for themes and gamer pictures is a rip off most of them should be free.
Kodros @ Mar 19th 2008 6:23PM
So, you want Infinity Ward to foot the bill of making DLC just because you pay Microsoft for an online service? IW doesn't see any of that Live sub money.
C7 @ Mar 19th 2008 11:26PM
Kodros, IW isn't "footing the bill" for the FREE PC map releases so thats an irrelevant argument. I am not a fan of this $10 for maps BS that started recently, sure I could refrain from buying it but then I will be screwed when trying to play a game online because most of the sheep will shell out money for something that should be free.
I can't believe the screw paying I'm gunna download the CD/DVD for free generation is this ready to shell out money for stuff that has always been free for PC users.
Obie @ Mar 19th 2008 6:25PM
Get out of the way Halo 3 map pack, the new king has new maps.
NACHO @ Mar 19th 2008 7:37PM
Sounds good :)
Desert Eagle @ Mar 20th 2008 12:04AM
Day 1 purchase.
Sam @ Mar 20th 2008 12:04AM
is it coming to pc too? if so how much?
