Metareview -- Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
It seems Tom Clancy's latest visit to Las Vegas has yielded strikingly similar results to his 2006 outing: Lots of jumping out of helicopters and being shot at by ambidextrous bandits. Some people like that sort of thing, however, and reviews of Rainbow Six Vegas 2 suggest that Ubisoft's second trip down the strip is just for them. This is your last chance too -- the next Vegas game is that one starring Kevin Pereira.
- Eurogamer (70/100): "Overall, Vegas 2 feels like an incremental expansion, despite the success of the character-creation feature. The annoying thing is that with a bit more investment these quickfire sequels would feel like true follow-ups, which would go a long way with those of us who've been following the series for the past ten years. As it is, we'll still go to Vegas, but we'll be grumpy on the way home."
- IGN (84/100): "The gameplay in Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is awesome; it just isn't as awesome as it was 18 months ago. The main complaint that most gamers are sure to have with RSV2 is that it's simply too similar to the game that we played late in 2006."
- Videogamer.com (80/100): "While Rainbow Six Vegas 2 feels more like an add-on than a proper sequel, that shouldn't stop you picking Ubisoft's latest up. The gun-play is excellent, the production values are top notch and the multiplayer game modes will keep you coming back months down the line."

Sounds like Ubisoft should have made RSV2 a pack of expansions instead...
-Needs BPM to add me on Brawl
Mr.ESC @ Mar 19th 2008 8:42PM

Fernando Rocker @ Mar 19th 2008 8:49PM
Well... no one from Joystiq can beat me, and I play with Pit.
Well... just one person is on my same level...

Pit? I would really like to see how you use it I have played against pit in Insane or is Intense well in 9 and is not as hard as Fox or Falco.
Fernando Rocker @ Mar 19th 2008 9:04PM
If you want we can play... wanna add me?

from this point onward, all comments are not about RSV2. They're about Brawl.
Brawl fever has consumed Joystiq!
Mr Khan @ Mar 19th 2008 9:28PM
Like i said before, i'm testing all the characters to see who i'm best with, aside from Kirby and Game and Watch, out of the set i've tested so far (21 out of the 35) i've liked Zelda, Pit, DK, Wolf, Pikachu, and Ike
I don't like Link, Ness, and Lucario, and i'm ambiguous towards the rest, so far.
Einhanderkiller @ Mar 19th 2008 10:09PM
Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 originally started life as a map pack.
TheOverlord#2 (will beat you with Toon Link!)(1461-5875-9923) @ Mar 19th 2008 10:22PM
Pit is the best overall...great recovery, Meta Knight like sword slashes, and a bow & arrow...
I use Toon Link primarily, but i also use G&W and Sonic.

xFenixKnightx @ Mar 20th 2008 8:19AM
Pleez get Teh Brawls off my internetz!!! Actually Mr Esc Fernando got voted down into oblivian. You just got voted down to purgatory. No worries. I dont bother with voting unless its somethin funny or they just proved a great point.
Deck @ Mar 19th 2008 8:53PM
Thanks for the Metareview! Always appreciate them especially when I am thinking of picking one up! :)
And.. I still think I am going to pick up RSV2!
Brian @ Mar 19th 2008 9:05PM
I don't see how a RSV game can fair well going up against CoD4, espeically one that feels only like an expansion to a two year old game.
glitched @ Mar 19th 2008 9:10PM
should have been hot shots as the new release of the week... what's it's meta review?
tiremfej @ Mar 19th 2008 9:11PM
Great, now I have a zero chance of ever buying this game, talk about re-hashing and stomping on a franchise.
ill trooper @ Mar 19th 2008 9:36PM
I'm not trying to flame on you, but your comment is the kind you might see from people who weren't going to buy it anyway.
No one is 'stomping' on a franchise - it's the type of sequel that fans of the first will be fine with.
tiremfej @ Mar 20th 2008 7:21AM
@Liltrooper
No, I had it on my list, I was going to pick it up, but like GRAW2 I won't be picking this one up. If there isn't much change to justify the $60 I'm not going to pick it up.
And yes, they are stomping on the franchise. A yearly release schedule for a tactical shooter?!?! Come on, you can't put out quality games with a yearly schedule like that, look at :cough: :cough: EA!
UBI delayed Splinter Cell due to it getting stale and wanted to fine tune it, they should do the same with The Ghosts and The Rainbow team.
Platinum_Skeet @ Mar 20th 2008 9:36AM
I bought it and none of the multiplayer stages are similar. The campaign is great and fills tons of gaps. Plus the best FPS to TPS coversystem has been perfected.
Honestly if you played R6V countless hours and want to give Halo3/CoD4 a break. Then this games perfect for you. Honestly for me it's just a one month filler until GTAIV comes out...
Sam Zebian @ Mar 19th 2008 9:27PM
I just got the game about an hour ago, and so far it's awesome!
Zoot Suit Jedi @ Mar 20th 2008 10:11AM
Can anyone tell me if you can aim down sight like in COD4?
Sam Zebian @ Mar 20th 2008 10:20AM
What do you mean aim down sight??
Zoot Suit Jedi @ Mar 20th 2008 12:18PM
Like in COD4 when you from "shooting from the hip" to pulling the gun up to your shoulder and looking down the barrel in crosshair view.
Sam Zebian @ Mar 20th 2008 12:34PM
Oh, with the gun I use, there is nothing like that. Other than that, I wouldn't be able to tell you without switching my primary weapon. but i really don't know.
Gbogdan @ Mar 20th 2008 12:45PM
Yes there is but instead of pulling the left trigger to do it(CoD4), you have to click R3 which is kind of annoying but not so bad once you get used to it.
Mr Khan @ Mar 19th 2008 9:29PM
Ouch, the prequel was arguably the best FPS of 2006, its online definitely rivaled Gears (if not beat it, for balance issues)
The mighty fall, i suppose
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Mar 19th 2008 10:01PM
Ugh this is doing to sound anal, but it's not a prequel. It's a predecessor. A prequel is something releases AFTER that TAKES PLACE before.
Cal @ Mar 22nd 2008 12:39AM
The mighty hasn't fallen, just the CoD4 and Halo fanboys have invaded. R6V came in at a time of relative peace and R6V2 has found itself in the crossfire of Halo 3 and CoD4, as well as a few general trolls...
ill trooper @ Mar 19th 2008 9:32PM
Yes, it's more of the same; but it's like ordering the same good meal at the restaurant you enjoyed last time.
It's the kind of "more of the same" sequel people think they want when a series goes from say, something like "Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory" and evolves into "Splinter Cell: Double Agent": people want more of the old "Chaos Theory" way. So when we get that, like here with Vegas2, we say it feels like maybe it's not different enough. I will say that nearly all the assets are the same it seems: soda machines have the same texture maps, some of the terrorists shout out the same things ("Who's with me?" "I'm with YOU!" makes a reprise, for instance.)
Tough to be mad at Vegas2, though: it's got exceptional game play and control, and thankfully, the buttons are all mapped in the same way, something Ubisoft will often change from version to version of popular games.
Intentless @ Mar 20th 2008 8:01AM
Yes exactly the game is great. Its stupid that people are bashing because it is "too much like that last" like every madden is a new revolution in gaming...
riggs @ Mar 20th 2008 9:21AM
people are bashing about it because they dont want to spend 60 bucks on a rehash, whats so hard to understand about that?
Cal @ Mar 22nd 2008 12:40AM
If they don't want to spend the money they can rent it or leave it, they don't have to rant incessantly until everyone who hasn't played it yet thinks it's is shit (which it most definitely is not) and avoids it...
giantenemycrab @ Mar 19th 2008 9:34PM
I bought it and really love it. Plus, not all the reviews are bad, Joystiq just chose the worst ones, for some reason. Game informer gave it a 9.3.
tmacairjordan87 @ Mar 19th 2008 9:42PM
yet another game being bashed for being the same thing while nintendo franchises whistle and hop away unscathed by reviewers.
i'll get voted down for sure, but you guys know i'm right
jackbauer @ Mar 19th 2008 11:37PM
your right in some way. nintendo games, usually, have same formula but different execution.
CharleyTony @ Mar 19th 2008 10:06PM
I havent played it yet but I know this : The guys at Ubisoft were making an expansion called "bishop" but as they went along they made so much content that in the end they thought it could hold up as a complete game.
Would you rather have a 4 GB download that would add some story to your game and some tweaks to the multiplayer or This game which is on disc ???
Matt B @ Mar 19th 2008 11:28PM
Ooooh. It's been a good March so far with The Show and HSG:OOB. Ain't fallin' for the shooters, just the variety.
Have fun shootin' each other, again.
JohnHeist @ Mar 20th 2008 12:26AM
Vegas 2 is good enough for me. I haven't even tried online yet since i have to work in the morning and don't feel like it right now, but the single player is fun.
I'll be getting Dark Sector when it comes out, surely between that, Vegas 2 and COD4 I'll be good until Gears 2 comes out.
Worst Review Ever @ Mar 20th 2008 1:44AM
I like Ike. Also, I beat Fernando a couple of times. My name on Brawl is Jonny.
embassy @ Mar 20th 2008 4:39AM
this reminds me of GRAW 2, more of the same. but ay, when the foundation is that strong, why not go for rd. 2?
hopefully both GRAW and Vegas can rest easy after the sequels while the RS and GR franchises now move on to bigger and better things.
Mart @ Mar 20th 2008 6:18AM
Can I cheat at it? Most games nowadays won't let you. Pisses me off. How dare they ask me to try? Bring back the Master System!

:Flame On:
So Again the 360 is the Version to get, As you can see on Metacritic.
So whats the Differences?
breachless @ Mar 20th 2008 7:38AM
I am really looking forward to this. Vegas was by far the most played game on my 360.
What I don't get is this: all the comparisons to CoD4. I got CoD4, and I like it, but it's nothing like Rainbow Six, and at the risk of being flamed, I will say that I actually dug Rainbow Six Vegas FAR more than Call of Duty 4. The cover system is top-notch, and it's just more of a thinking-mans shooter. Something I really like.
The thing I liked the most though about Rainbow Six, is that when you play Vegas online, it's all adults that are good sports and are fun to play with as opposed to all the children you run into when you play CoD or Halo online.
Plus, you haven't really experienced Live to it's fullest potential until you have gotten a few friends to do some co-op terrorist hunt. It's amazing.
KookieMustar @ Mar 20th 2008 9:39AM
I agree, I prefer the way Vegas plays, and I love the cover system. I am sick of COD4, if you ever have to play with random people it's just a giant clusterf0ck with a bunch of douchebags.
