The best part of this story is that Chike actually drove two hours to compete at the Play N Trade store in Bloomington, Minnesota. Guess when you're the world record holder the trip seems worth it, considering you've probably got the win in the bag. Chike says he still hasn't done as well at any tournament event than he's done at home. The good thing about tournaments and competition is you only have to be better than second place.

Yeah, the whole "you only have to beat second place" thing is the best part about contests.
Back in 2000 (maybe 2001) my school had a Tony Hawk Pro Skater contest. My brother spent weeks bragging to everyone he would win. When the event came, he demanded to go last, to put all the haters to shame.
It was a 2-minute set-stage high score contest. Before he went up, the high score was 119,000. When he finished his first combo at 23 seconds in, his score was 123,000. Riots/drama/lulz ensued. Anyway he ended up with a score like 790k and about $200 cash.

Magnificent.
Well meanwhile I took lessons to learn how to properly speak in public so now I say magnificent instead of I don't give a s*it.
I guess Lone Starr took the same course.

@mike
He said this event took place in 2000, so THPS1, maybe 2, were the only ones out. So, without the revert and maybe even the manual, it would be decidedly more difficult to ramp up a higher score.

I loved the first two guitar heroes but now I find it hard to keep playing it. It truly is a fruitless endeavour to master GH. The difficulty level is truly getting ridiculous and theirs just no reward for it all. I keep getting this nagging feeling that I should be mastering real guitar instead. Don't get me wrong, I loved this series, but it may be time to move on.

Playing a real guitar is always worthwhile, but if you think it 'might be worthwhile' because you think you might make money from it, put it down and go get a job with a future instead.
If you think it 'Might be Worthwhile' because you could get laid, continue on, your probably right.

Are you trying to say that...
You should actually have to be good at a game to earn an "achievement"?

I thought hyperspeed was frowned upon? Apparently, though, you can still use it to get a world record.

What's amazing is I checked out the finals at PnT Bloomington and he barely eeked out a victory there to get on to the national championship. He lost the first song (devil went down to georgia), won the second (fire and flames). The randomly chosen tiebreaker was "Closer"...which got a chuckle out of the crowd. Both competitors got 100% but Chike had 400 more points due to one extra note's worth of star power.
It was pretty amazing to watch.
