Pandemonium and Blood Omen rated by ESRB for PSN
With all of the retro games being released on PSN, XBLA and the Virtual Console, it takes a lot for crusty old games to get us excited anymore. But that's exactly what's happening today with the news that Pandemonium and Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain have been rated for the PlayStation Network by the ESRB.
While you could be forgiven for not knowing Pandemonium, a cool 2.5-dimensional platformer, you don't want to miss Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain if you've managed to for the past decade. It's not only the start of the usually excellent Legacy of Kain series but one of the most quotable games ever. Speaking of which: Vae victus!

God yes, the voice clips made this game...
"The heart of Darkness.... life was precious, Urich learned, as it was ripped, still beating from his chest."

I probably got that quote and item wrong.... since I traded in my PSX version long ago and my PC version doesn't work with XP or Vista.....
KingOfGods @ Mar 20th 2008 3:02PM
Yes they did...I loved listening to the voice work as much as playing the game.

Agreed. Remember when Kain was making his way to Coorhagen and you can see corpses piled up in carts? I forget all of what he said, but the part where he says, "The plague..." sticks to me. So genuine, like it still makes him wince.

Oh, now that's a pleasant image to see while I'm eating lunch.

NSFL?

Nothing a half a bottle of water couldn't wash back down.

Should they had captioned it "Let me suck your kha'ak" ?
Matt B @ Mar 20th 2008 2:24PM
It's blood suckin' time.

Is it just me, or is that picture as dorky as hell?

Maybe now it is, but back when it came out it was awesome.

No, I think it would still be goofy looking. Then again, all box art for early games was rubbish (with the exception of Jet Set Willy, which still has the coolest box art of any game ever)
DiddlyKong @ Mar 20th 2008 3:02PM
Ah yea. Ah yea. That's what I'm talkin about!!!
I'm excited :)
tmacairjordan87 @ Mar 20th 2008 3:12PM
meh for both of these I'd rather have the original Metal Gear Solid :(
Daniel @ Mar 20th 2008 3:21PM
quit whining, go to the game store, and get MGS: Essential Collection.

"Of all the methods I employ, this is perhaps the cruelest, causing my victim's body to shrink on itself, crushing bones and rupturing organs 'til the pressure inside burst the sac of fleshy skin, spraying its contents for all to see." Simon Templeman is the best!

I hope they also bring Legacy of Kain to XBLA as well. Be nice to see a port of the Dreamcast version of Soul Reaver on the download services as well. Not sure how a series that started out so strong ended up so weak in the end. The last three games should have never even been made (okay Defiance was decent but buggy as hell).

I come to Joystiq for the gaming news... not the albino nipples.
Jouten @ Mar 20th 2008 4:08PM
Don't deny it Dave! You KNOW that's EXACTLY why you come here! =D

Actually, I DO remember Pandemonium if only because it was a gift and the first PlayStation game I ever owned (hardly a substitute for the FF7 that had actually been my request). It wasn't a great game (unless compared to its sequel) but I will certainly remember it.
Tim Pedersen @ Mar 20th 2008 7:53PM
That's actually a picture from Blood Omen 2, the worst game in the series. Man I wish this series would get the ending it deserves, and I too hope for this to make it XBLA.
t_m @ Mar 21st 2008 3:44AM
Pandemonium sucked. I got it free with some graphics card or other and I still couldn't force myself to play it. It was only cool cos it was about the first 2d platformer to come out in 3d... and that was in the "3d is always bestter than 2d" days that lead to so many bad games.
Always wanted to play blood omen though.
Benny @ Mar 21st 2008 7:01AM
I loved Pandemonium as a kid.
Cap'n Hands @ Mar 24th 2008 8:44PM
For some reason, both games have been removed from the ESRB list. Hope this doesn't mean we won't be getting them down the line after all.
