Rock Band music store rockin' consoles this week
At some point this week Harmonix will finally launch the Rock Band music store, a fully integrated shop allowing players to preview and purchase tracks without ever leaving the comfy confines of the game. Songs in the store will provide a difficulty metric for each instrument and the DLC can be organized by artist, genre, difficulty and year of release.
Harmonix tells us that this is the "only patch planned" at this time, so players looking to streamline their multiplayer registration experience or do Band World Tour online are gonna have to sit tight. Also, be sure to continue checking with us every Friday for the latest Rock Band DLC announcements with Rock Band Weekly.

*waves goodbye to money*
copa @ Mar 20th 2008 10:16AM
Do you get short audio preview clips when you browse songs in the store, like when you are scrolling the song list in the regular game?
Christopher Grant @ Mar 20th 2008 10:17AM
I'm guessing that's what the "Preview" button is for. Might not be activated on rollover, but same idea.
copa @ Mar 20th 2008 10:29AM
I just checked Kotaku, and they are reporting that you do get audio previews.
Christopher Grant @ Mar 20th 2008 10:32AM
Again, from our post: "a fully integrated shop allowing players to preview and purchase tracks"
Was that not clear?
copa @ Mar 20th 2008 10:45AM
Sorry, wasn't clear to me whether 'Preview' meant an audio clip.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Mar 20th 2008 10:54AM
I love the fact they have difficulty metrics. I don't think I would have bought the metallica pack had I known my singer and guitarist couldn't get through any of the songs.
Random lists have become a scourge. We always get "Blackened" and "...And Justice for All".

STOP TAUNTING US EUROPEANS!
WAAAAH
destrin @ Mar 20th 2008 11:03AM
I think we are probably looking at the reason why it hasn't got a Euro release yet, I bet they wanted this patch to hit first before releasing
Chris @ Mar 20th 2008 10:11AM
finally... I was pretty sick of not being able to hear a preview of the song via xbox live marketplace.
h8rain @ Mar 20th 2008 10:19AM
Is that Xbox only or for the PS3 as well? That would be pretty crappy if it was nly for Xbox 360.
FixtSux @ Mar 20th 2008 10:48AM
I posted this on PS3Fanboy, but where is the "Players Met" feature? If I play with someone online I have to write it down to add them. Or how about in-game chat, at least in the selection screen. I hate being leader and would love some input when picking a song.
copa @ Mar 20th 2008 11:11AM
"where is the 'Players Met' feature?"
This is integrated into XBox Live. You might want to ask Sony to provide a similar feature, so that it isn't incumbent upon developers to reimplement it for every game.
"Or how about in-game chat"
Another feature of XBox Live. Sony is rumored to be releasing a patch this summer that will enable it across all games. You may want to contact them if you would like it sooner.
JJ Rooster @ Mar 20th 2008 11:18AM
That's all on Xbox Live my friend! One of those little things worth $5/month.
FixtSux @ Mar 20th 2008 11:29AM
The PS3 has a "Players Met" section within the XMB...Harmonix CHOSE not to use it. Y ou got me on the in game chat, but most games use it without me paying the $60 a year.
copa @ Mar 20th 2008 11:31AM
"The PS3 has a 'Players Met' section within the XMB..."
I'd suggest you contact Sony about providing an in-game XMB.
Synner @ Mar 20th 2008 11:42AM
Noes!! Fuck Youz paying $5 a month. PS3 R0X0r$ free interwebz are much better!!!!!
Gee, guess I'll go fire up the old elite and see if anyone wants to play some rock band tonight.
FixtSux @ Mar 20th 2008 11:56AM
@copa's comment: "I'd suggest you contact Sony about providing an in-game XMB." -- That isn't even close to what I was asking for.
@Synner's comment: "Noes!! Fuck Youz paying $5 a month. PS3 R0X0r$ free interwebz are much better!!!!!" -- I'm glad you think that is what I sound like.
I posted my wants and was flamed instantly by you three. Hope you all feel better about enriching everyone's online experience.
copa @ Mar 20th 2008 12:03PM
I'm not flaming you. I am just reminding you that Sony, not Harmonix, is your support contact if you want a better integrated online experience on the PS3.
Ordeith @ Mar 20th 2008 12:22PM
How come every time someone brings up XBLive we have to correct all those incorrect price points.
Live is readily available for $40/13 months which comes to $3.08/month.
There are occasional specials that ask as little as $30 for 13 months.
Even if you don't comparison shop and end up with the $50 MSRP, the subscription is still 12+1 months or about $3.85/month.
So you can all just stop with the over inflated $5/month right now.
Synner @ Mar 20th 2008 3:22PM
1. Grow a thicker skin.
2. read the typical response to someone posting anything about xbox live.
3. I was responding to copa and JJ. Every time anyone mentions XBL, about 100 sony fanboys jump in with shit like that.
4. Explaining sarcasm makes it much less funny.
5. Try to go ahead and let your nuts drop before getting all offended by a joystiq post next time.
6. Sony has been pronising to implement those things for a while. they should be coming soon, they were supposed to have been announced at GDC I think.
ill trooper @ Mar 20th 2008 3:29PM
"I suggest you contact..."
What a dick thing to say, Copa. Just so you know, since you're so naive about it, for future reference, telling someone they should contact a large faceless corporation if they have an issue is considered an insult. It's like saying "write your congressman" - they don't care. They realized they don't have to around the time people forgot about "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington."
Josh @ Mar 20th 2008 10:49AM
PS3 too!
Brian @ Mar 20th 2008 11:21AM
I hope it removes the song from the list after you purchased it. I'm sure I'm only dreaming that would happen.
baby sea tuna @ Mar 20th 2008 11:24AM
XBLM puts a little check mark by the purchased title. That helps in not mistakenly trying to re-buy songs. Now if I could only devise a similar scheme for my record collection...
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Mar 20th 2008 11:41AM
However, if you've bought one of the song packs, the little check only appears next to the song pack, and not by the individual songs contained in that pack that are available for individual download.
So you could sill accidentally buy the same song again.
XanthouS @ Mar 20th 2008 1:00PM
Hopefully this doesn't prevent PS3 users from GameSharing RB DLC...
Domingoakasunday @ Mar 20th 2008 9:14PM
Do you have to have an xbox live gold status to get this app? If not, how do you get it?
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Mar 21st 2008 1:58AM
DLC store instead of making people buy sequels of Rock Band?
Fucking genius.
baef @ Mar 21st 2008 11:26AM
I would rather have DLCs cause then you can play all the songs in one game rather then having to switch disks like with the old Guitar Hero games.
Chupathingy @ Mar 21st 2008 6:36PM
Remember folks, Xbox Live is free by default.
You get access to all of Xbox Live Marketplace without paying a dime up front (of course, you DO have to pay when you want a DLC).
The Gold subscription has some added benefits of course, but almost everything in Marketplace is accessible to Silver (i.e. non-paying) users.
This applies to Title Updates as well. All you have to do is log in to Xbox Live while playing the game and BOOM! Music Store. The title update applies to the title; your subscription level is not a factor.
This Music Store is unreal, by the way.
HipHappy @ Mar 24th 2008 12:21PM
Twould be a shame if this was not cross platform.
