Defend Your Castle Wii Ware trailer is super-cute
We've known about its existence for about a month, and now we get to know what cult classic Flash game Defend Your Castle will look like when it come to Nintendo's Wii Ware service. The answer, it turns out, is pretty freakin' cute.
Compared to the original Flash version, the Wii Ware Defend Your Castle sports a significant lack of blood, perhaps not surprising for the family-friendly system. What is pleasantly surprising is the new paper cutout aesthetic, which reminds us of a cross between Paper Mario and Pencil Whipped. We're also fond of the robust more robust animation, which doesn't miss a beat even when hundreds of stick figures storm the castle in the trailer's thrilling multiplayer co-op finale. We haven't seen such an effective mix of cuteness and carnage since the town's last kitten massacre (warning: this last link is not for fans of kittens).

I sent this yesterday and today again... not a single Thanks =(
sicsided @ Mar 21st 2008 4:27PM
don't worry fernando, we all know you're the only one on the internet that knew of it.
Co @ Mar 21st 2008 4:44PM
lmao nice
NATO_Duke @ Mar 21st 2008 5:10PM
Spammer - go to hell.
D_Average @ Mar 21st 2008 4:11PM
Impressive.....Needs more blood though of course.
Marek Hryc @ Mar 21st 2008 6:02PM
Don't forget about nudity and swearing.
Burnt Meatloaf @ Mar 22nd 2008 7:04AM
You could just watch the kitty video a few dozen times between levels.
BlackTye @ Mar 22nd 2008 1:14PM
Don't forget drugs!
NATO_Duke @ Mar 21st 2008 4:19PM
I'm sorry, but that video is of a scene that is in such poor taste that its digusting. That animal was obviously scared when it was attached to the board and whether someone likes or hates cats, getting off on that kinda crap doesn't show good character.
ChooChooCharlie (Brawl: 1504-5357-9285) @ Mar 21st 2008 4:23PM
Seriously.
Obviously the cat wasn't really killed, but it was strapped to a board, which apparently wasn't very pleasant - based on the cat's reaction (and who knows how many takes that took to shoot).
Definitely fucked up.
Mr.ESC @ Mar 21st 2008 4:29PM
Thanks Internet (4chan,ytmnd cough) now I can watch scenes such as those and feel just slightly offended...and I'm probably going to burn in hell but I guess I'll have to with that.
This is internet common knowledge but whatever you do never google cats or kittens, toast and Doom music together.
Mr.ESC @ Mar 21st 2008 4:33PM
Of course the cat wasn't killed but yeah the cat didn't seem very happy about being strapped.
I know how cat blood looks like, again thanks /b/ for showing me things I didn't want it to see.Now if you excuse me I have to get back on Unsee and repress those memories.
(Hey I got it NEJCMACF
"Not even Joystiq can make animal cruelty fun").
playwhutyalike @ Mar 21st 2008 4:38PM
Huh, so it says the link is not for fans of kittens, but you click on it anyway, just for something to bitch about. Awesome.
Note: I don't support animal violence so I DIDN'T check it out. See how simple it is?
Mr.ESC @ Mar 21st 2008 4:46PM
Actually I would ignore it too but Nato comment kind of make me curious.
Again curiosity and the internet = a very bad combo.
whymog @ Mar 21st 2008 4:57PM
But it's Donald Sutherland! He's the biggest badass since Gregory Peck!
Blazur @ Mar 21st 2008 5:05PM
Am I the only one who laughed at that cat scene?
NATO_Duke @ Mar 21st 2008 5:07PM
Whatever playwhutyalike. Sell that shit to someone else.
Zachary HInchliffe @ Mar 21st 2008 7:32PM
....what? that scene was from a movie. it's obviously not real. you guys need to lighten up.
playwhutyalike @ Mar 21st 2008 5:25PM
Ouch, did I touch a nerve? Did I call you on your bullshit?
Hey, kitten Massacre, but it says not for fans of kittens, and I love cats, I think I'll check it out. I wonder what massacre means?
I do agree with you that (whatever it is) probably is in poor taste, and shouldn't have been in this article.
Srayer @ Mar 21st 2008 5:34PM
If someone offered me free food and board for my entire life for 20 seconds of extremely mild discomfort, I would take that deal in a second.
Shmil @ Mar 21st 2008 5:55PM
@ mr esc
i have to say it there's no way i could live with myself if i didn't,
but i guess you could say that curiosity killed the cat
bobartig @ Mar 21st 2008 6:40PM
D-Did Keefer Sutherland just headbutt a cat? I mean, huh?
But dude, the entire point of the scene is that it was supposed to be an horrific demonstration. If you were uncomfortable watching it, you had the correct response.
Mr.ESC @ Mar 21st 2008 11:14PM
Shmil lol I guess that's the best phrase anyone could use to describe this.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Mar 22nd 2008 2:25AM
......
Please tell me that's sarcasm. I can't tell.
xFenixKnightx @ Mar 21st 2008 4:23PM
Defend your Castle...
Are you Ready?
To pass on it? Yeah, been ready.
John McPoop @ Mar 21st 2008 7:33PM
LOL... Nice one Fenix...
This game just looks like a bad episode of a bad show on Adult Swim...
Sancroff @ Mar 21st 2008 4:24PM
I agree with NATO_Duke. Even with the warning, that is appalling poor judgment, Joystiq. Epic fail.
TJordan0331 @ Mar 21st 2008 4:26PM
He straight up headed butted that cat! CLASSIC! LOL!
darkeyez @ Mar 21st 2008 4:30PM
LMAO. Fo' realz! Sick, but classic.
Blazur @ Mar 21st 2008 5:06PM
Indeed...that cat got OWNED! Stupid cat...
darkeyez @ Mar 21st 2008 4:26PM
Ugh...I dunno. The WiiWare version seems to be lacking what I liked about the flash game. Nevermind the blood, I think it's funnier that to convert an enemy, a column of light breaks from the sky to do it...not drop them in a bucket of paint. Eww. And the menus just look all cluttered and annoying, not to mention the grappling icon, couldn't they come up with something less obtrusive?
Though, i gotta admit the co-op kinda make me feel a lil tingly with glee.
WiNG @ Mar 21st 2008 5:23PM
You forgot that BEFORE you have the "insta-convert" you have the "pit of conversion" that you manually drop them into.
Mr.ESC @ Mar 21st 2008 4:37PM
Well the graphic style is both nice and strangely crappy at the same time but the crappy part is intended so guess is okay. I like when a dev show graphical style instead of fake realisms with stuff like Brownish/Grayish atmospheres.
The problem is that there are several variations of a game such defend your castle already and most of them are free. This would be better in the Xbox live or PSN.
Burnt Meatloaf @ Mar 22nd 2008 7:07AM
With an analog stick?
Jhongerkong @ Mar 21st 2008 4:58PM
Whoever thinks that video was in good taste is one sick bastard. Joystiq, you dissapoint.
DAK @ Mar 21st 2008 4:59PM
I love the art style! So unique and makes it look like a high school play with the random clouds hanging in the background and the pasted ransom (not to be confused with James Ransom-Wiley) note look of it.
Mr Khan @ Mar 21st 2008 5:29PM
They're doing a good job of converting a free flash game into something people would probably be willing to pay for. That art style is win
Still kinda hard to convince me to pay, but they're doing a great job trying. WiiWare devs, take note
Burnt Meatloaf @ Mar 22nd 2008 7:08AM
Excuse me, but it takes more than adding a Photoshop drop shadow to clip art to achieve style.
Takayo @ Mar 21st 2008 5:34PM
Wow, I remember playing this game ALL DAY in class on the comp. Nice to see it'll be coming to console... THough it seems the DS would work better (I'd like it to be portable, personally).
darkeyez @ Mar 21st 2008 6:46PM
agreed, most def.
DMeisterJ @ Mar 21st 2008 6:59PM
This is a flash game right?
Hmm...
Ken Seang @ Mar 22nd 2008 3:07AM
I dunno, that trailer needed some 300 reference or something...
Burnt Meatloaf @ Mar 22nd 2008 7:09AM
anything > 9000+ > 300
Ethan @ Mar 22nd 2008 6:02AM
hElth?
Burnt Meatloaf @ Mar 22nd 2008 7:11AM
Are you trying to write your name as an anagram or something?
Ethan @ Mar 24th 2008 12:30PM
Look at the health bar in the video.
tehsage @ Mar 22nd 2008 9:41AM
It looks interesting. I'll probably get it assuming it's not over priced or anything.
Rask @ Mar 22nd 2008 1:14PM
LOL And they say Live Arcade is full of shit?
hvnlysoldr @ Apr 12th 2008 7:37PM
I'll certainly defend my castle.
